Lounge;

[For several days, Peter takes control of the TV in the lounge. At first it was trying to learn the games that BB had left him, but after talking to Wanda its become his way to stop thinking about his conversation with Wanda. It's hard to think about the death of his alternate dimension self when playing Mario Cart.

Maybe he invited you over to play a few rounds. Maybe you catch him watching 90s comedy shows at four in the morning. Maybe you just want to yell at the kid who's been hogging the TV all day and has the volume turned up way too loud on Duck Hunt.]

Mess Hall and Cafe;

[What's another great way to avoid feelings? Eating.

Peter has commandeered a table to himself and has gathered a huge mess from the sheer amount he's packing away. He looks like the food has personally offended him, glaring down at every bite and stabbing everything viciously with his fork. Someone's moved into the anger portion of the process.

You could approach, but that glare says you might not like what happens when you do.]

Hallways;

[And now he's moved into follow someone around and annoy them part of the process.]

I'm just saying, if you work for a family like that, you don't get away with being dicks to them. No rich person is putting up with that.

[He's spent the past few minutes explaining the plot of 'Fresh Prince' to you. Engage?]

[ Yata may not get that anything is wrong, per se, but he does understand the vague non-descriptive answer for what it is. Instead he drops down into the seat as bidden. ]

The fighting one.

[ It's what he's best at, after all, though it's been a while since he's actually sat down to play - and thinking about that has him speaking up again. ]

Hey, do you recognize any of the games? I was looking at the movies and books and stuff a little bit ago and couldn't find anything familiar.

[ Not that Yata had looked terribly hard, and not that he's much of a reader or movie goer in the first place, but it still strikes him as a little strange. ]

Fighting it is. Grab the other controller.

[Peter points to the object sitting on the floor. He finds the appropriate case and gets up to the change the game.]

Nope. Dude, the biggest game out in my day was Pong. Arcades are entertainment of the future, etc. This is far beyond what I've ever seen.

[ Yata does as Peter says, but he's immediately distracted by the mention of Pong. ]

Wait, really? That came out, like... fifty years ago!

[ It hasn't actually been quite that long, but from Yata's perspective it may as well have been. ]

Oops. Didn't I mention what year I was from?

[He grins, flopping back into his seat.]

1973, dude. I'm practically a time traveler, being here.

Woah.

[ Maybe not eloquent, but it captures Yata's feelings on the matter just fine. That was more than two of Yata's lifetimes ago. ]

This place must have seemed crazy. They didn't even have internet or robots or stuff like that in the '70s.

[ There's a pause before Yata adds, since his grasp on history isn't the greatest: ]

... right?

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the internet is.

[Robots technically existed but he's not gotten to see them.]

There's a lot of things around here I'm not used to. But hey. If I can handle a space kidnapping, I can handle knowing technology is going to improve in a few decades.

[ Well, it's not like Yata can argue with that. He slumps back in his seat again. ]

Guess I can't talk. Even where - er, when - I'm from, stuff like this ship or the weird flying whales only shows up in comic books and TV shows.

Honestly, I think you're with the majority. Most people are freaking out about this place. It's weird for everybody. Except maybe the aliens.

[Of which he's still only met one. Space has it's disappointments.]

Are there even any aliens on here?

[ It suddenly occurs to Yata that he hasn't actually seen any. Just a lot of humans. ]

There's Sans and Papyrus but I don't think they're from outer space.

Like, one that I know of. Human looking though.

[He laughs at the mention of the skeletons.]

Not from what they've told me. But hey, I haven't exactly asked if their home was on Earth.

I dunno, they look like human--

[ A pause. ]

Well, Papyrus looks like a human skeleton. Mostly.

[ The point is, the don't look bizarrely inhuman enough for Yata to jump to 'alien'. ]

Besides, isn't a talking skeleton's something you'd find in a spooky castle instead of a space ship?

I don't think they were ever human, honestly.

[And he's not sure they'd like hearing it.]

And I can't really see either of them living in a spooky anywhere. Sans isn't exactly scary, you know?

Nah, your probably right. Sans said something like that when we met.

[ Or more accurately, he'd made a terrible pun about pregnancy and Yata had dropped the subject before he got The Talk as it related to skeletons. ]

So which alien did you meet?

[ Yata keeps his tone as casual as possible, but there's still a clear thread of interest in his voice. He's kind of invested in this alien thing. ]

Did he?

[He's mostly gathered information from the context, repeated chats with Sans surprisingly didn't touch much on what he was.]

Tali. Not really sure where she's from exactly, but she's cool. Not really super alien looking though.

[He hears the interest and he sounds a little sheepish that it's all he has to offer. No green skinned martians to report on.]

Well... sort of. He said I was just assuming things when I said skeletons can't have kids, but it's not like he said, 'Hey, I was born a skeleton!'

[ It's actually way less clear cut than Yata had thought, in hindsight, but he's pretty sure he's right. ]

Just her, huh?

[ It is kinda disappointing, but it's not like all hope is lost. ]

But new people show up pretty much every month, right? More are bound to turn up some day.

Dude, I didn't even think about them reproducing.

[Without skin how would that be possible?

...Actually he doesn't want to think about it.]

So far. [He gets the disappointment.] But hey, you're right. We have to get one here at some point. Hopefully. We're in space, it's a given.

It wasn't like I wanted details. I just blurted it out when he said they were brothers.

[ Unsurprisingly, Yata sounds a bit on the defensive side. He's much happier to refocus on the subject of aliens. ]

... You think the captains might be aliens?

[takeitslow]

Mouth going faster than your brain. Been there.

[He can relate. He’s been accused of that more times than he can count.]

They look pretty human, but maybe? I could always ask Than, next time I have to work.

[ At least Peter gets it when it comes to speaking before thinking. Yata's gotten into trouble for it more than once.

The mention of Than and work has Yata perking up, however. ]

'Work'? You one of the bodyguards, too?

Yeah. One of Than's. The guy's got two, can you believe it? Not they've had any use for even one of us. [But Al's cool enough to work with and he doesn't have to do much, so it's not really a complaint.] So you too? Which for?

Thán? That means you work with Al, right?

[ Peter Yata's tone remains positive. He'd met Al right after coming through the Ingress and liked him from the word go. ]

I'm watching after Cúrre. I don't think she's ever even left the ship, though.

[ In other words, his job has been equally uneventful. ]

Yeah, Al. Nice guy right? But we hardly ever work you know? The most the captain's had me do was watch Ben for a few hours.

[Of which he actually only did is job a few minutes and let the guy wander on his own.]

The one always around the medbay? You probably got the more boring job, sorry.

Yeah, her. You're not wrong about boring, either.

[ Not that he's really complaining, but he's used to having to deal with actual peril when it comes to looking after important leader figures. ]

Guess it's better than them dying and leaving us stranded, though.

Eh, we’ve probably got someone on ship who could steer this thing if they had to.

[And a first mate he has more trust in than the captains.]

But yeah, I get that. At least we don’t have to work hard.
