Who: Clara & Adrien
When: At the start of the month (before the 5th)
Where: Clara's room
What: Some nerds doing some painting
Warnings: Nada.
[After things started to settle and she was able to start taking inventory of all the things she had managed to trade for on Kaittos, Clara was ready to take the proper steps to make her room over in the halfway units a proper home. The Doctor stayed there too, but he rarely ever slept and didn't care as much about how things looked as she did. But she knew that he loved the stars even more than she did, and so she wanted to do something for the both of them.
She had traded for some Kaittan made paints and paint brushes, and fully intended on painting a starry mural along the wall in their room with the most space. She could've done it alone, of course, but thought that Adrien might want to come over and assist her. So she sent a quick message his way, asking if he'd come by whenever he had a few hours spare time. And she set to work painting, managing to get up the dark blue backdrop of space that the lighter colored stars and cosmic debris would be on top of. By the time there was a knock at her door, she had already started dotting stars and painting a tardis.
Tucking her small paint brush behind her ear, she grimaced as she managed to streak bright blue across her temple and into her hair. There wasn't much time to worry about it though, since she pressed the right combination on her ACE and the door opened to let Adrien inside. ]
I was starting to wonder if you would be stuck in the MedBay all night.
[Judging by her smile and the hint of laughter in her voice, she was teasing rather than criticizing.]

That was ... actually a first to be honest, and though Adrien had considered a polite decline, he'd heard words of acceptance fall out of his mouth as if of their own volition. So here he was, standing outside her door, dressed in an older t-shirt (if the slightly tighter fit and faded color was anything to go by) trousers and socked feet.
He'd wavered back and forth about wearing his shoes, but he really only had his military boots and they weren't something you wore into someone's private home space. It wasn't entirely comfortable walking across deck plating in socks, but he was only two units down so the trip wasn't that far or unbearable. And if she took offense to his socks, he could just pop back down and get his boots.
Course was with him, standing just behind him, though the bahari pushed his sleek head past the doctor's leg and towards Clara before she had finished her greeting. Someone was not shy about saying hello. ]
Cour ... [ He began, before giving up and stepping just to the side to keep from getting plowed over by the tracker. In his hand was a bottle of Kaittos wine, similar to what they had shared at their dinner date, and Adrien held it out towards her. ]
It is never outside the realm of possibility. [ He agreed with her teasing, though his own tone was a bit more rueful and honest than playful. ] But not this evening, as it turns out.
Uhm, I wasn't sure what to bring over but I remembered you liked this one at dinner, so ...

Come in.
[She pat her leg so Courser would come toward her, taking it as an invitation for him as well. The fact that Adrien was willing to take the time to do this with her because she asked him here made her feel so happy that she had to spin about and keep her back to him for a moment in order to hide her dorky grin. Of course, once she had the wine set aside for the moment she was turned right back, with a little black velvet pouch in hand.]
I wanted you to have this. I found it on Kaittos and thought you might like it.
[She had thought of his cape and his military pins when she saw it, though this pin was far more ornate than she might otherwise have chosen.]
The man I traded with said it was very old, back from when their people had a military. He said it belonged to his great-great grandfather.
[Her attention was a little focused on petting and scratching at Courser for a brief moment, but paused mid doing so to glance up Adrien's way. Was getting him a gift like that too much? ]

He had been about to thank her for the invitation when she offered him the pouch. ]
I ... [ Adrien began, looking genuinely surprised, before he blushed and made to open the pouch. ] Thank you, Clara. That was very thoughtful of you.
[ Pausing before he opened the pouch, the doctor made a graceful gesture with his hand. Courser responded immediately, retreating towards the door and curling up into a surprisingly compact ball of colorful scales and barbed edges.
Shaking out the pin, he studied it curiously. ]
I wish I had spent more time talking with the locals about their history. [ He said, looking up at her and though he didn't smile, there was a twinkle in his blue eyes. ] I may have discovered what this pin represents. Regardless, it's very handsome.

The man I traded with told a nice story, anyway. Suppose that's all that matters, isn't it? Things are just like people. They all become stories in the end. Doesn't matter if they're true as long as they sound nice.
[By that point, she was standing right beside him and was able to reach a finger out to trail it along the pin. She had talked to maybe too many of the locals about history and customs, but that was part of her job.]
You know, if we were about sixteen and from the 1950's, you pinning that on your clothes would make you my girlfriend.
[She teased, glancing up at him with a playful wink. It was the perfect moment to lean in and steal a quick kiss too. Best do that before her mouth ran and she said anything else ridiculous.]

To say that Adrien was not used to being kissed would be an understatement. He wasn't even used to people invading his personal space on a whim, let alone a sweet kiss to go with it! He was startled for a moment, but then reached up with the hand not currently holding the pin, to lightly cup the side of her cheek as he returned the kiss. Complete with a playful little nibbling of her lips.
It saved him from falling into the trap of overthinking what it would mean to put this pin on his uniform with the other pins currently in residence. Pins that reflected the destruction of planets and slaughter of countless species. He would have to come up with some compromise, so that she wouldn't feel he was ungrateful for the gift, while at the same time honoring the pin appropriately, by not mixing it with the death on his chest.
It would take some thought, but he'd come up with something!
For now, he gently broke the kiss and moved to attach the pin to the front of his t-shirt, obviously unfazed by the idea of being the 'girlfriend' in this scenario. She could read what she wished into that, or even ask questions if curiosity got the better of her. ]
Now that we have that settled. [ He said, giving the secured pin a small bop with his finger. ] Where would you like me to start?

Stars.
[She scooped out her own brush from behind her ear, and used it to gesture toward the mural.]
That over there is the tardis -
[She pointed out the blue box in the corner.]
And the rest will just be stars. I want them to be the first thing I see every day when I wake up.
[As they got to work painting and a bit of time drew on, Clara paused mid painting to glance his way.]
So, are you in the market to become someone's girlfriend?

Unless she asked him to do otherwise, Adrien set about painting realistic starscapes. He did this by centering it around a milky way type constellation and then building outwards;pinpricks of light, surrounded by dust.
When the question came, he paused briefly. He'd been sort of dreading a question along these lines, because he was torn between the answer he wanted to give and the one he knew he was duty bound to give. It took him a moment and his eyes never left the canvas of the wall as he began to work again. ]
If you mean, am I seeing anyone then the answer is no. I'm a free agent, I believe is the terminology. [ Addressing the potentially easy topic first. ]
But part of the reasoning for that, besides the fact that I am absolute rubbish at the idea of relationships, is the fact that I'm not a good prospect. [ He paused, taking a moment to mix some colors on a lid, before glancing at her from beneath his lashes. ]
There is a war, back home, that I've dedicated myself too and I suppose you'd say that anyone in my life would be taking the role of mistress, to that conflict.
no subject
I think that one day you'll find someone you don't mind letting play mistress.
[Giving him a smile, her eyes glanced over toward the constellation he had been working on before rising up on her tiptoes to reach a little higher and extend the work on her own. ]
I don't think I'm meant to ever be in a relationship anyway. I had my chance back home, but I let it all slip through my fingers. Maybe there's no coming back from that.
[She fell silent after admitting it out loud, taking a few steps back to admire the look of her work near his. There wasn't any denying that they made a good and effective team, just as she couldn't deny the fact she was attracted to him and was incredibly fond of him. But she was an adult with real responsibilities on board this station. She couldn't neglect those duties.]
Do you think your side will win, whenever it is you return home?
