all that you left behind
Who: Shiro & Close CR
When: After the Shadows clear out
Where: Thisavrou Medical Center
What: Recovery to the point of functionality is a long haul.
Warnings: Discussion of injury + trauma
(i) WAKE UP
[When he wakes up, finally, it's hard to realize where he is. It's hard to put everything together. String the events along to make sense -- what happened first? How did he get here? Where are the others? A panicked thought, at first, remembering vividly how they were all confronted, what it tried to say to them. Up until they all lashed out against it. Until they all fought back...]
[He's in the hospital again, isn't he? Trying to sit up. It doesn't work out so well. Because there's bandages and splints and his whole face feels like someone dropped a brick on it. Sitting up takes way more effort than expected, so he's left flopped on the bed, breathing a little hard. But giving up on actually standing. Probably for the best.]
[Sure would be nice if there were healing pods here, huh...]
(ii) AMBULATORY
[Maybe a few days later, though, he's going to do his best to get up on his feet. There are people he needs to check on. Whoever happened to leave crutches in the room? He owes them, big time.]
[Said crutches actually hurt his shoulder, and his ribs, but oh well. This is progress. This is slow, steady progress down the hall. He's not actually trying to leave the facility. Just get around. Maybe see if anyone he knows is here.]
[Check up on them.]
(iii) anything else
[The wildcard option!]
((Open log for the Lion House crew and friends. Or anyone who's in the hospital too, oops. Thread hop, multiple threads, anything! Prose or action tags work.))

I'll be here all ni-- wait is it already 3 AM
Well, that and carry you both to this space hospital.
[It's a rule of space, certain things have to be identified as space-things. Like space mice and space hospitals.]
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
[Because he really, really doesn't want to know what that thing would have told her. Bad enough it tried to get under everyone's skin as much as it did.]
[There's more to say, for sure, more to talk about but...]
Ah... carry... us? [Whoops, don't let that crutch fall out of your hold there, boy.] I mean -- thank you. Thank you for that.
I did nothing c:
[He should probably calm down, she carried him fireman style. Like a sack of space potatoes.]
It was the least I could do. From the sound of it, I wouldn't have been much help if I had been caught in the fight.
i cant read space-anything now
[That wouldn't help anything. At least not right now. But the wall catches the falling support, helpfully enough.]
Why wouldn't you? I've seen you fight, Allura, you're more than capable.
[You know, where rifles aren't concerned.]
we'll switch to talking about realities, then
[Her voice drops.] You know, I had hoped that maybe we wouldn't need weapons here, as we did back on our own reality. That we would only need them for training, perhaps. But it's seeming more and more like this reality is only marginally safer than our own.
IM DYING
[But he sees her point. If looking away from her tells anything. It's not something he's really in the mood to argue over. Not now.]
It ended up being a good thing the others had them. I'm not sure how things would have gone if they didn't.
[He shakes his head, leaning more into the wall.] Is it just me, or does it seem like this place is getting more dangerous, the longer we're here?
she said one more, not more than one, but w/e as long as her point stands
[Hey, can you walk? Leave the wall alone and let's walk.]
We did arrive here from the front lines of a massive war. Compared to that, almost anything would seem like paradise, wouldn't it?
....... I SWEAR I CAN READ WOW, GOOD JOB SELF
[He can hobble. Juggling the unwieldy space crutches and shoulder injury is a challenge, but if she's walking, he's going to follow.]
Maybe you're right. Maybe we're all just... too used to the fight.
just blame the time, it's cool
Shiro, you know how much I dream of seeing a universe at peace. How I would give anything to put an end to the conflicts that we all have been forced to endure. [
which is sort of terrifying, actually, thanks season 3]So I of all people want to believe that they achieved it. A peaceful world, led as a true coalition instead of an empire. But tell me, do you actually think it's possible? Or if it is, that it could survive for very long without people working and fighting to preserve it?
i do, i will
I don't know if it's something that's ever managed to happen before. In this, or any other reality.
[Choosing his words carefully -- he does know. He's with her, in that boat. He shifts his weight to one side, leaning on it, so he can put a hand on her arm.]
But I think I want to believe it's possible. That... somewhere people can do it. That's what we're fighting for, isn't it? So people can have that chance to try.
[And then, clearing his throat, because he hadn't meant to speechify there.] Maybe we all wanted to think this place was as much a break as it looked like.
no subject
That's just it, though. Our peace is one that we are fighting for. So if anything unexpected happens, we can respond before it throws everything back into war. It wouldn't be perfect, but...
[She keeps talking to him, even though she looks out a nearby window that they are passing.] If everything became so horrible because of our arrival, then what would have stopped anything else from disturbing it? You can make a lot of things in a vacuum. But most of those are fragile as a bubble, as soon as the vacuum breaks.
no subject
I agree. I don't think we were the only cause. But... I wonder, sometimes. If we were the catalyst for it. Or what something else needed to kick off all these events.
Like we've been used as scapegoats.
[He shakes his head.]
Maybe I've just been listening to too many news broadcasts. [Because what else are you going to do in the hospital.] Regardless of who or what is responsible, you have to admit, things have gotten more dangerous in the last few months.
no subject
As long as we're doing more than just worrying. Even if it's just a little to help set things right.
no subject
[If all you see are news reports about how bad things are, you start to wonder if it's true.]
We are. All of us -- I can say that for sure. [A shift, a hand on her arm again.] Thanks. Think I needed that reminder.
no subject
I don't many any offense by this, but that's another reason why I hope to see you make the most of this break. You've taken more of the brunt of everything that's happened than anyone else. You must be exhausted by now.
no subject
[Again, he falls silent. She's right, in a way. He should be taking a break. But it feels wrong, just to sit down and rest. When so much else needs to be done.]
I'm fine. When they release me, I'll be good to go.
[Because he has to be. Doesn't he?]
no subject
[
This is probably a mistake.]I suppose, then, the best thing we can do is get started on figuring out everything that's happened. Maybe it will help us anticipate the next thing going wrong.
That... imposter. [There's a tone of distaste, but -- the wounds have started to heal, and her tone is more clinical than anything else.] By the time I had heard about it, it had already been in the house. I don't suppose you know more than we do about it?
no subject
[
it's definitely a mistake]Right. So far, the Ingress has been attacked, there was that... thing from the asteroid... and now this.
[Her tone is detached. And some more distant part of him is envious of that. Because he feels his hands tighten where they're holding the crutches up. Feels a flash of cold and the memory of all that black... like you're back there all over again, so many chances to get over this -- maybe you don't wanna remember as bad as --]
It ... knew everything... [It's only after he says it that he remembers to breathe again.] that I did. That I do.
About everyone. And it wanted to hurt all of you...
no subject
Do you mean all the things it could have picked up from studying you? Or... everything?
[There's a lot of emphasis on that last word. Everything, as in his hopes, his dreams, his darkest fears, the idle thoughts that cross his mind in quiet moments.]
Do you think it was telepathic? Or, possibly, something more?
no subject
[His jaw works.] It -- took me somewhere... it knew I couldn't fight back. [That arena. That place that smelled like blood and felt like dust in his lungs all over again. Down to the obstacles rising in the middle of it all.]
[The handle of the crutch in his right hand creaks. Scared everyone's going to find out everything you did? a monster ... broken and reformed ... what makes you think that you Tell them what you did--]
It... knew everything about me, Allura.
no subject
[Her tone has changed. It's softer, level. Calm but firm, reassuring but commanding. Like she's trying to pull him down from wherever he's starting to spiral off to.]
You seem... wound tight about this, still. Would you rather talk about it another time?
[Something must have come to her attention. Maybe the noise the crutch made. I mean, with those ears of hers, how could she not have heard that?]
no subject
It's -- No. No, I can do this.
[She has to know. For everyone's sake. In case those things are still around. Has to be strong and capable for her.]
Maybe you're right -- telepathic. I didn't get the chance to ask.
But it knew about things I... [He falters there. He remembers, though, Pidge's reaction to it dropping the news on her, and forges on.] ... things even I don't remember. Just twisted it all to hurt you guys.
