Huh?
[Nuclear? Like nucleus?]
No, I don't think it's exactly the same thing, though maybe it's related. I've not heard of nuclear transmutation before...

Basically, nuclear transmutation is the conversion of one chemical element or an isotope into another. There was a time in my world where alchemists claimed that they could turn iron or lead into gold through a process that followed this principle, but that's not really how real transmutation works, at least not in my world. The conversion happens on a nuclear level. Turning one piece of metal into another like that, it's... it was just a ruse. Although I don't doubt some of them actually believed they could do it.

[How strange, that the principles should be the same and yet alchemy not work where Dr. Banner is from. It's sad, in a way.]
Though creating gold is forbidden by the tenants of alchemy, most because of economic and ethical reasons, it's definitely possible to do. As long as you understand the chemical composition of both the start and the end product, and you don't take more than you give back, almost anything is possible with the right knowledge.

[ He offers that with a smile and a quirk of an eyebrow, then he turns his attention to whatever other injuries the patient still has, so they can move on to the next bed. ]
I can imagine a number of transmutations would be forbidden, if nothing else for the way they could make economy and just about any country or political system sink. [ Gold or a number of other metals, as well as precious stones for instance, would heavily devalue currency and send the whole world into chaos. Bruce is amazed it's not too common a thing-- which has him wondering. ]
Can anyone use alchemy like that, in your world?
no subject
No, not everyone. The ability to use alchemy is born into you, but even then it takes a lot of study and dedication to learn to use it.
[He looks down at the injured woman on the bed, voice lowering a bit guiltily.]
Maybe I shouldn't be talking about this now, do you think the conversation is disturbing the patients?
no subject
Sorry. We can talk about it later, sure.
[ He doubts the people here mind much, but it is a topic that would probably develop further the more they talked, so it's best to just leave it for another time. Telling the woman how her injuries are coming along and soon she should be on her own two feet, he motions for Al to follow as he goes to check on the last couple of patients, those two unconscious and hooked up to monitors next to the beds. ]
no subject
Only when all the patients have been checked on does he step back towards the door, voice warm and grateful.]
Thanks so much for letting me watch, even if I wasn't much help. I think I'm going to go and help carry food and blankets, at least I can do that!
no subject
He smiles at Al once he finishes checking up on the last patient, his hands sliding into the pockets of his lab coat. ]
No problem. [ And he wasn't a hindrance, if anything he's cheered up a couple of the patients, so there's that. ] Alright, then. I'll see you around, I'm sure. [ Especially considering Bruce's been splitting his time between the medbay and the mess hall. ]
no subject
[Expect to see him around all the time, everyone in the med bay will be sick of the sight of Al in no time at all.]
If you ever need anyone to help, any time of the day or night, please just call me and I'll come.
[He raises a cheery hand to wave goodbye like a dork and steps out.]
