"He is." He sounds pretty sure of that, for someone who's struggled with it so often in the past - still does even now, sometimes. "We're not the same. I can transform willingly and keep him under control, but he's still him-- something else."

"...What's it like when he's... in control, then? Like you're trapped in there?"

He would use the metaphor with the acid, but he figures she might understand it better, explained like this. Even then, it's difficult to convey how it feels, but he really wouldn't want anyone else to have to experience it, not to any degree.

"I know what that's like," she says. "You're stronger than I thought."

The last remark gets a chuckle from him instead, though it lacks in amusement, and carries a hint of bitterness to it. "Thanks. I think."

Jasper shakes her head. "If it was me, and it could happen whenever I... What you said about... adrenaline." Whatever that is. She doesn't seem troubled by needing a moment to remember the word; she looks him in the eye, with a respect that wasn't there before. "I'd be afraid all the time."

But it seems that Bruce has explained what it feels like well enough, because she sounds like she understands. Maybe in good part due to her own past experiences, sure, but she understands nonetheless.
He nods at her last words, his own gaze almost faltering, but he keeps his eye on hers for longer. "I'm honestly glad it's not you." Not because she'd be afraid, of course. He's afraid all the time too, he just doesn't tell her that. He's generally glad that it's not anyone else. Even those he might harbor ill will towards, he can't even begin to imagine what they would do with the ability to turn into a monster like that.
He still remembers Blonsky, and he remembers how much he even seemed to enjoy it. If anyone has to carry the burden then let it be him. He'll outlive the suffering anyway, and he'll never let the monster eat away at his conscience. That will only leave him with the last of his breath, that much he's sure of.

She claps one big orange hand on his shoulder – not especially hard, although it might make him stagger a little bit. "You're alright, human. I have to say I wondered why Peridot likes you so much, but I think I sort of get it."
no subject
His smile turns a little more amused, head tilting slightly. "You're not so bad yourself."
