Classified?
[Ocelot smiles, uttering a soft laugh as he pours himself another shot. He sets the bottle down and picks up the glass.]
Well, alright, Mr. Classified. I'll just call you David, if it's all the same to you. Or maybe just Snake.
[He kicks back the shot of whiskey in one go. It's not bad for space whiskey. Is Snake still enjoying this? Or did Ocelot burst his bubble? Now David is probably thinking through every person he's ever told his name to figure out who shared it with Ocelot of all people.]
no subject
The second that his actual name is spoken, though, any illusion of civility between them disappears. Snake straightens in his seat, his hand clutching tight around his glass as he finds the rug pulled out from under him. How...?
The only people he's told his name are Miller and Danny, and in Danny's case it hadn't been purposeful. Miller would know better than to tell Ocelot, Snake's guessing, so that leaves Danny -- who probably didn't know what he was doing, or who he was talking to.
His bubble most certainly burst, Snake glances away, actually seeming a little put out. ] Just Snake. [ It's a warning. If Ocelot tries to call him by his real name again, it won't end well. ]
no subject
Snake it is. I take it you and Miller have talked.
[He can only imagine what went on during that conversation. Miller said he wanted to find the other son of Big Boss, and now he has here on this ship. But David is obviously older than he would've been in his and Miller's time, so maybe David's already met Miller at some point during his lifetime.]

Not that it's any of your business, but we met a few planets back, yeah.
[ That's hardly a secret, and Snake's reaching the point where he wonders if trying to keep anything from Ocelot is a fool's errand.
Even so, he fixes Ocelot with a firm stare. Better he set up ground rules now, before any assumptions are made. ] I'm willing to work with him during this trip, but don't assume that offer extends to you. [ Not when Ocelot's never been anything more than a pain in his ass, and that's not even accounting for the torture. ]
no subject
Point taken.
[It's clear David is not easy to crack. It would probably take a lot of work, and even then, if he's the son of Big Boss, it might never happen no matter what Ocelot does to him. Not that he's thinking of going that route right now. He'd need a good reason for it.]
But, with circumstances as they are, Miller and I might see eye to eye enough to work together, too, so don't be too surprised if we end up on the same team.

Ocelot seems to already realize that Snake and Miller are on the same "team," whatever that's worth. Alliances have always been made of pretty brittle stuff. Otacon's the only real partner that Snake's ever had. As far as he's concerned, Miller is one of his responsibilities. He can only do so much with his physical condition, and Snake sees it as his obligation to keep him out of harm's way. ]
I think you know better than anyone that someone's loyalty can shift on a dime. [ Said with a pointed look. ] If we ever work together, it'll only be out of necessity.
[ Snake will also be going to great effort to make sure that never happens, but it's not like he can account for everything.
Ocelot is good at what he does, there's no doubt about that. And he wants to get back home just like the rest of them, so he'll probably be a good resource. But that doesn't mean that Snake would ever rely on him for anything. ]
no subject
As for Miller, since Miller never spoke a word about David being here, Ocelot had to presume the man was trying to protect him. And he's already been warned by another of Miller's friends.]
I do know about shifting loyalties. Ask Miller about it sometime.
[Though David likely isn't aware, Ocelot's true loyalty has never wavered. Never faltered. Not since 1964.]
But that's fine. At least we have a truce, for now.
no subject
[ Snake shakes his head, maybe a little too immediately. He's seen Ocelot shift sides enough times to make his head spin. Snake likes to think he's pretty good at staying a step ahead of other people, but the reality is that he's got nothing on this guy.
Granted, this situation they're in now doesn't really lend itself to that kind of behavior. Not when most of them want the same thing, which is to make their way back home. Ocelot can't carry out any of his numerous plots from space. ]
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it a truce, but... [ He studies Ocelot a little more closely. He'll be keeping an eye on him. ]
no subject
Not a truce but close enough.
[He lifts his glass and drinks to that.]
no subject
So he pushes up off of the bar stool, leaving his glass there as he turns away. ]
Watch yourself.
[ And with that, he walks away. ]
