Fuck! Bruce. [She sighs from relief and runs her hand through her hair. From her experience medical staff hardly liked it when patients went and looked through the drawers on their own without a permission, so it's understandable that she can't help but feel like she's been caught red handed doing something wrong.
She looks at Bruce, studying his expression for a while. So far people on Moira have only had positive reactions when seeing her, well, like this without her usual get up, she still can't be too sure about how others will response to her. But the only thing she can read from Bruce's face right now is the concern, which is most likely because of the ugly bruising than anything else.]
Well, what do you think? [She scoffs with an annoyed voice.]
no subject
Sorry. [ He looks apologetic too - it hadn't been his intention to scare her there. As for her appearance, he doesn't think much of it, at least not right now. He's mostly focused on that nasty black eye she's sporting. ]
Right. [ Down on the planet, he guesses. Things have become quite a lot more hostile down there, after Link's body showed up on the ship, and the Komai basically accused them all of being terrorists. Bruce is starting to see a pattern to the planets they visit, and honestly he's not sure he likes it much. ]
Let me take care of that for you? Please. [ He gestures at one of the exam tables nearby. ]
no subject
After weighting the options here, she gives him a rather reserved and cautious, walks over the able and hops to sit on it.]
no subject
She'll have to deal with him looking at her like that, though. He is concerned, after all.
He follows after as J sits on the table, gesturing at her face. ] I'm going to check if there's anything broken. [ There doesn't seem to be, at least, but better safe than sorry. ]
no subject
Sure. Go for it. [She turns her head to side so that he could have better look at the injury.]
no subject
His fingers trace along the edge of the bruise gingerly, then moving along to feel the bone of her eye socket. It's intact, much like her cheekbones, and finally he traces his fingers up the bridge of her nose, prodding at her temples and jaw just for good measure. ] Nothing broken. [ He gets a piece of cotton and wets it with just a bit of water, cleaning the area around her eye before he goes on to apply some cooling gel over the bruised skin. ] I can tell you probably think that wasn't necessary, but I just wanted to be sure you were okay.
no subject
There is something awfully funny about in this situation. They have really flipped the tables compared to their last meeting where she was the one making him uncomfortable with her touching. And now she was the one who wanted to get away.
She can't help but let out a chuckle while he spreads the gel over her cheek.]
no subject
Where's the joke?
[ He steps over to a cooler nearby, getting a small cold pad from there. It'll work together with the gel, and help with the swelling. That's about all he can do for a black eye. ]
no subject
[The corner of her lips twitches upwards, forming a tiny but sly smile. She gently leans to the cold pad, letting him to hold it up against her face.]
You said that only women interests you, yet you're pretty eager to keep your hands on me when I'm looking like this.
[She lets out a rather dry laughter, turning her eye on him as she waits for his reaction. It was her most used tactic: turn the attention on others and bite them to hide her own uneasiness.]
no subject
It's different. I'm tending to your injury, nothing more. Besides, you're still a woman, no matter how you're dressed or what you look like. [ He pauses. ] Aren't you?
[ Yes, he's figured by now that she's not physically a woman, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, he knows that. Not that it matters, in any case. Like he told her before, he has no interest. ]
no subject
[J smiles shortly at him, clearly unsatisfied with his reaction. But it's the latter part that makes her smile turn sour and breath stop for a few seconds. She averts her gaze away from away from him, feeling her cheeks to gain faint color on them. Oh, she's so glad for the ice pad right now.
Bruce's not the first person to react this way or say something like that and it makes her happy. Grateful even. But after spending her whole life being ridiculed, insulted and simply just simply hated has made it difficult to react to positivity like this.]
Maybe. Do you want to check it out?
no subject
No, I... don't need to.
[ He watches her, still holding the cold pad to her eye for a while, trying to figure out what he said that upset her. Because that was it, wasn't it? She was fine - frustrated, a little angry about the injury, sure, but generally speaking, fine - and then she wasn't. Bruce tries to be considerate of others but at times he can be a little bit clueless. He's wondering if this is one of those times.
Pulling the cold pad away, he tries to look at her more properly. ]
Sorry-- did I say something to upset you? If I did, I didn't mean to.
no subject
No. It's fine. [Her voice is hollow and distant, as if she was speaking more to herself than to him. Taking a deep breath, J straightens her back and gives him the same annoyed look as she did before the examination.]
If you're done could you please fetch me some painkillers? My head is hurting.
no subject
I'll be right back.
[ He steps away from her, coming back a few seconds later with a syringe and a small bottle of analgesic. It'll take effect more quickly like that, and he hands her a few pills she can take with her too, in case it starts hurting again. ]
You shouldn't take these too often, one a day at most, and only if it really hurts. I'll give you this one now and you should be alright for the next 24 hours. [ Slowly he fills up the syringe with a small dose. ] You should keep the cold pad, by the way. Just keep it cool, and it'll help with the swelling and pain for the next couple of days.
no subject
She takes ice pad and places it next to her on the table. The syringe earns a small frown from her but despite it she starts rolling her sleeve up.]
Couple of days? You think I'll be looking like some drunkard's wife for that long. [Yes, wife. ]
no subject
Well, each person is different. The swelling should go down after a few days, but the skin might take a little while longer to heal completely. You'll likely have some kind of color around your eye for the next two weeks or longer.
[ The good thing is she can always cover it up with makeup. Besides, she won't be the only person sporting bruises around the ship. ]
Alright, you're all set. [ He pulls the syringe and presses a bit of cotton with disinfectant onto her skin, and once he's sure it's not bleeding, he puts a small bandage over the spot. ] Anything else I can do for you?
no subject
His estimation about injury doesn't please her either. Honestly she wouldn't mind getting a bruise like this if it only wasn't such visible place as her face. She tried to cover it up earlier, but her face was still to sore to be touched.
After he's done with the injection J nods her head a little, still not meeting his eyes.]
Thank you.
no subject
He shakes his head a little, smiling at her words, even if she's not looking at him. ]
Anytime. [ He starts cleaning up the work area, ready to help her onto her feet if she needs it. ] If that doesn't get any better in the next couple of days, drop by again.
no subject
No, I mean it. [Her voice sounds more careful than before. It's not just the patch up that she's thankful for, anyone could've done and given her that-- but for him understanding.]
Thanks.
no subject
You're welcome.
[ She really doesn't need to thank him for anything, not as far as he's concerned, but he gets it. Transsexuals still get mistreated as it is even in the time he's from, he can only imagine that to her, things must have been much harsher and more complicated. So much so that even a sliver of kindness or understanding would be an incredibly jarring thing. ]
You'll be alright on your own? I can find you a bed if you want to get some rest here, but you might be more comfortable in your own room.
no subject
There's a small nod from her as a sign of acknowledgement. She keeps holding his wrist even after he withdraws his own hand away for a while, squeezing it softly .]
Why? Will you tuck me in and give me and kiss me goodnight if I stay?
no subject
Not that he can fault her for it, honestly. He doesn't tease and flirt like she does but he has his own methods to get people to shift their attention away from something, usually something related to him and his condition, and it's exactly because he knows how unpleasant it is to have people insisting that he makes no note of it at all. ]
Don't push your luck, J. [ He says it with a smile, though, tipping his head a little, letting her hand stay on his wrist for a while longer. ]
no subject
[J smiles shortly to herself. The way how he just brushes off her suggestion amuses her, it's like nothing can throw him off. Usually getting turned down or failing to rouse up a reaction only makes her feeling frustrated, even if it's not personal, but with Bruce it's different. It's strangely welcomed and safe feeling.
She laughs softly and hesitantly takes her hand away, finally looking up to meet his eyes.]
Is the doctor going to kick me out?
no subject
[ The medbay's just not a very pleasant place right now, nor is it quiet, what with all the people coming and going, and how busy it is. But if she happens to not want to be alone - and he can understand that all too well - then there is a row of beds where people are just resting and recovering from their own wounds.
With his hand freed again, he finishes cleaning up much more quickly, finally throwing away used pieces of gauze and cotton, the table all but ready to be used by the next patient. ]
no subject
[She says, bringing the usual flirtatious tone back to her voice. She knows it's a long shot seeing that more people both new and the injured ones keeps coming in, making sure that Bruce and the other staff of medbay will stay busy. ]
