She looks up at him when he says that, still in the middle of smearing the jelly on her own toast. She looks back down at what she's doing, gets another dollop of jelly on her knife before she's sending it across the countertop and over to Erik. The sound of the glass jar dragging across the surface loud in the silence.

A part of her wonders if Peter has said anything to him yet. Or if he ever will.

He's not in an especially talkative mood most of the time, so when someone else is content to be in the same place as he is without trying to get him to talk about something, or accuse him of everything that's wrong with the world, that's fine with him. He prefers it, in fact. What happened in the past is what happened, and talking about it does nothing.

So he sees no need to try and start a conversation while he scoops out some jelly for himself and returns the jar to the fridge.

She watches him when his back is turned before averting her eyes downward back to her toast. She takes a small bite and chews thoughtfully.

Eventually, she knows she has to say something. Even now, she still chooses to defend him to others. She knows Erik can be dangerous. Knows what he is capable of. But she also knows there's more to him than whatever Peter thinks he is.

"Did the Professor tell you he was leaving?"

He's noticed that for some reason, the younger mutants (or at least Jean and Kurt) seem willing to talk to him, and more willing to put up with his presence in the house than the older ones are (with the exception of Charles), and he wonders why that is. He doesn't suppose it's really all that important right now anyway.

"No." He'd been as blindsided by it as everyone else had. "I don't think he knew it was happening." Although he seemed to think it was a possibility, or he wouldn't have left that note behind.

It's what happens when people are from different points in time. Both her and Kurt have seen the good Erik can do versus what mistakes he's made in the past (though he probably wouldn't count them all as mistakes).

Her brow furrows at that, "What do you mean?"

He still doesn't believe Charles' assertion that there is good in him somewhere -- he's a weapon, like Shaw made him to be, so how can he be anything else? Weapons are designed for one thing, and it's something he's good at.

"If he had known there was a way out of here, wouldn't he have told someone?"
