april mod plot log

Who: Everyone
When: April 1 to April 30th
Where: Thisavrou + New Worlds
Warnings: none in the writeup, but mark your subject headers where applicable!

thisavrou monthly info ( the tmi )

All information is current as of day 91 ( there are 100 days in a cycle, which started on January 1st).

For the past month, the storm surrounding Thisavrou has quieted almost to a stop. On April 11th, that will change drastically. As the cycle turns, all locations will be subject to a blinding flare of light... and shortly after, a crack of thunder that seems to shake both planets to their core. Emergency protections are quickly put in place, and despite the lancing, intermittent bursts of light, few structures of any kind take harm. But where the plumes of power make contact, the ground will be changed: sometimes aged, sometimes warped, and sometimes filled with a new shape altogether. After April 11, new arrivals may show up at ANY location.

For the first time in recorded history, the weather on Kauto has changed... to a shocking 68°F / 20°C during the day and 61°F / 16 °C at night. The climatologists are very excited. (No one else is.) Chioni, meanwhile, has dropped drastically, with peak highs of 70°F / 21°C and lows of -22F / -30°C in the EN-Line-adjacent regions.

Savrii Notices:

  • Kauto's merchants have stepped up trade in an effort to capitalize on comfort those panicked by the storm. Protective charms, safety guides, and Artifixx knockoffs are being sold, along with more practical supplies like first aid kits and preserved food. One merchant is making a killing with quadruple-strength umbrellas-- "in case of falling people".
  • Mission notices have been posted to TABs for anyone interested in earning a little extra cash. Available missions are listed below:

  • Day 94 (April 4th) - A mob of Spitelings has taken the climate shift as an opportunity, overrunning Chioni's Burg Three while hot-weather personnel were being cycled out. Survivors are reported, but unconfirmed. The mining companies will pay 300 sencs to anyone who helps to clear them out, with a bonus of 150 sencs per survivor rescued.
  • Day 1, new cycle (April 11) - The recently-acquired Artifixx technology proved crucial to keeping the Ingress Complex intact through the first onslaught of the heightened storm. But with readings projecting further escalation, it's vital to ensure the technology gets out-- and that all regions can be protected. Engineers, researchers, and others with appropriate skills will be compensated 300 sencs per week spent on the project.
  • Day 11, new cycle (April 21) - When storm energy left a smoldering heap of melted rocks in one of Kauto's mountains, observing researchers noted it as one phenomenon of many. When said heap stood up and started to rampage, they took a second look. One very angry landmass is trampling its way from Region Two through Three-- and leaving massive wildfires behind it. Panicked pleas have gone out for evacuation, rescue, and containment. Not many have a price attached, though financial gratitude can certainly be negotiated after.
  • ingress travel info

Signatures are the base reason for traveling through the Ingress (aside from general exploration and monetary gain) and are used to discover the correct world visitors on Thisavrou wish to return to. Every visit through a different Ingress brings the technicians a little closer to finding it.

Missions are jobs or specific tasks listed on the TAB once new worlds are open for exploration. Be sure to check if Clearance Levels are required to accept some of these missions.

Clearance Levels are given to visitors for the length of time they have been on Thisavrou (or traveling on the Moira). Each CL offers access to certain things or incentives that others will not have.

    Asteroid 276

In the search to find matching signatures, Thisavrou's Ingress technicians scan a vast array of worlds each cycle. It's very, very rare to find a world that shows all signs of scanning back. A series of careful transmissions back and forth identified the beings on the other side as tentatively friendly, leading Asteroid 276 to be opened as an Exploration Class world.

As much chaos as might be building in the void of space, the Ingress itself appears untouched... at least, for now. The world drops out from beneath you with a swooping sensation and a quiet hum. When reality returns, you find yourself inside a pleasant, well-appointed room, where a calm female voice asks you to please hold; she'll be there to help you shortly. A console on the wall accepts requests for drinks and food, provided a brief survey is completed to ensure biological compatibility. By the time you've taken a look around, the Greeter has arrived.

Asteroid 276 is a genetic nursery: a commune of talent pooled toward innovation and improvement of life itself. Founded by a group of scientists driven from their homeworld by war, its inhabitants have spent centuries in seclusion, developing their talents to cure diseases, solve resource shortages, and, of course, seek constant improvement of their own biology. All of this and more will be explained by the Greeter, who remains with your group throughout the mandatory six-hour decontamination. While she apologizes for the delay, it's necessary to ensure the safety of their work-- even the briefest exposure to some forms of contaminants could prove lethal to the new life they shelter. And while your breath and physical secretions are analyzed by researchers elsewhere, you have the opportunity to sit back in comfort, enjoying whatever they can tailor to your needs.

  • Once decontamination is complete, you are free to explore the station. The researchers hope to establish good trade relations with Thisavrou, as well as obtain whatever samples of diverse biology their visitors are willing to provide. As an apology for the delay and a welcome gift to hopeful partners, each arrival is provided with their own companion: a being tailored to guide them and help with their stay. About as smart as an intelligent dog, these creatures bond within minutes to the first being who touches them, becoming loyal allies and assistants at need.
  • Being literally built into the asteroid, the space station has everything it needs to be completely self-sufficient. Visitors can tour the hydroponics gardens, watch a meteor shower at the observation deck, or observe the menagerie of creatures kept for research. While the scientists have, for the most part, reached a stable consensus on their own perfected form, a wide and varied array of species are produced or altered in the labs...
  • ...including, if you wish, yourselves. The main resource the commune wishes to exchange is their own skills: an active form of gene therapy capable of curing disorders and even enhancing the biology of a living creature. While secretive about their methods, they can demonstrate results on both themselves and their creations, and promise no negative effects. Everyone strives to be their best self, after all. Is there anything they can do to help you reach that?
  • Clearance Information :

CL 1 - may visit freely and return
CL 2 - may transport personal belongings or trade items
CL 3 - may bring live creatures in (subject to standard decontamination)
CL 4 - may bring whatever weapons they may carry (though openly doing so will disturb the residents)
CL 5 - may negotiate large-scale trade agreements
    Missions available:
  • While Asteroid 276 is looking to establish longer-term relations, its residents certainly aren't opposed to more immediate trade. New genetic material (blood, flesh, or a close equivalent) is valued highly here, and will receive trade goods valuing at 50 sencs per distinct source exchanged. Live (non-sapient) creatures receive four times that value.
  • Information about new worlds is highly valued among the Savrii, particularly when they claim to offer as many solutions as this one. A reward of 200 sencs will be provided for verification of the commune's skills-- and twice that for any resources that might help Thisavrou.

(All sencs are awarded ICly when you come back through. OOCly, you keep track of what you earn.)

  • Important note: More information on Asteroid 276 will be revealed as the month goes on, depending on the nature of player interactions with the setting. Feel free to ask questions here or on the feedback page, and check out the NPC starter if you're so inclined. Don’t forget to respond to the Activity Check!

[ Lena feels thoroughly unsettled after the six-hour decontamination. The Greeter told her that the whole point was to prevent any delicate experiments from being contaminated. It sounded fine, at first. But six hours was excessive and...

Well the bit about 'improving their biology' unsettles her a little.

Venom is actually the least unsettling thing she's seen today. Old soldiers cleaning guns in full kevlar is completely normal for her.

She laughs when he speaks. ]

Surprised they let you bring all that in.
    alterplex: (33.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-07 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ Laughing, that's something Venom hasn't heard in a bit. He poises over his mostly-disassembled rifle and flicks his single-eyed gaze back upwards at Lena, trying to read her tone.

His assessment is very military. Also, very obvious. (Come on, V.)
    ]

Hoping they'll let me bring it all back.

[ He gestures to the stack of plastic bags that he's been given to seal his weapons parts in. He's thinking that he should maybe start writing his 'name' on them. ]

Don't think that'll be a problem. They seem more interested in takin' blood samples than takin' anything else.

[ She sits in the chair, watching him with interest. Lena is perfectly aware that he's assessing her, but she doesn't have anything to hide. The only thing she's keeping under her metaphorical hat is her power and that's only because of the nature of this asteroid. Wouldn't want to be kept as a lab rat, should she pique their interest. ]

    Not quite what I expected.

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-07 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ He jots a few mental notes as he watches and listens: British, mid-twenties, levelheaded. Not exactly a comprehensive measure of someone's character, but the newcomer seems open enough and without a motive other than commiseration. Venom can work with that. ]

Mm. [ A low hum, like sandpaper. ] Almost too much like what you'd see in the movies.

[ Aliens who want to put you on the slab— cliche, but unsettling. ]

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-04-09 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
    Probing and all, apparently.

[ If she'd known what it would take to get through the decontamination, she might not have come. ]

Can't help but feel like somethin's not entirely on the up-and-up, you know?
    alterplex: (5.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-09 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ God, don't remind him. His expression darkens just a fraction, but only in mild irritation. ]

Hm. [ A sound between assent and acknowledgment; he keeps it vague, just in case anyone else is listening in. ] They were too thorough for things to be 'just a checkup'.

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-04-12 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Gotta wonder what they're lookin' for, then.

[ Lena shrugs in an easygoing way, but her posture gives away her unease. ]

They said they 'improve their biology.' Maybe the decontamination doubles as research.

Ugh, now I've gone and creeped myself out.
    alterplex: (55.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-13 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ He can see the unease in Lena's posture, and her statement only confirms it. This is the type of conversation that they should probably be sidestepping, if only because this is their first chance meeting, but.

    Well.

Without opening his mouth to form actual words, Venom reaches next to him for his TAB device, and taps out a message that he shows to Lena after he finishes. A precaution, just in case anyone is listening.
    ]

Got something you need to be worried about?

[ Her weak facade crumbles and her smile fades in favor of a worried frown. Lena pulls out her own TAB and types a response, just in case. ]

don't want them to know i have powers
    alterplex: (16.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-15 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ 'Powers'. The notion doesn't seem to surprise Venom too much, but he does turn his head and give Lena a brief once-over.

    After that, he types, again:
    ]

You think they'd try to keep you?

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-04-26 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ She bites her lip and pauses.

Then she taps out a reply. ]

no. not unless they decide i'm worth the trouble.
    alterplex: (57.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-28 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ He could ask about what exactly it is that she's concerned about, but he doesn't. You don't just ask people to explain their physiological anomalies in a medical ward— the hypocrisy would be too real.

So instead, he sets his TAB aside and pretends that the conversation they had via text was completely unremarkable, just in case they look suspicious.
    ]

Gonna have to learn how to undersell yourself, then.

    [ How insulting. ]

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-04-28 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lena lets out a laugh, her anxiety seemingly abated. Telling someone about her worry helped her really think about it. And maybe she now has an ally on this unsettling asteroid. ]

Never had to do that before. Not quite sure how to.
    alterplex: (65.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-28 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ Venom is like that one guest member in your RPG party that never actually joins the gang but sticks around to throw potions at you when you need it— which is to say that yes, while he may not actually articulate that he'll look out for people who look like they have Concerns, he will.

What really matters is that Lena's laugh takes the edge off of the situation. Much better.
    ]

So that either makes you honest or bigheaded.

[ Joking, joking. Maybe difficult to tell, with how neutral Venom always seems, but the faint twitch of his lips should speak for itself. ]
    desynched: (04)

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-04-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ She grins, clearly picking up on his joke. ]

Bit of both, really. I can say I never over-sold myself, though.
    alterplex: (22.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-04-28 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[ He makes a vague noise of acknowledgment. Something between a hn and a mm. ]

    Give me a rundown.

[ Of her qualifications, he means. Color him curious. ]
    desynched: (03)

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-05-12 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well. It's no skin off of her nose and it's better to talk about anything but the inherent creepiness of the asteroid.

Even if he might not believe her. ]

Right. So, I used to be a test pilot. Started on simulators when I was... about five, I think? My mum used to joke that half the words I knew had to do with planes.

I was good-- real good-- but nobody paid much attention 'til I broke my first world record. Twelve, still working with simulators. Coupla people wanted to see me fly the real thing, and it... just went on from there. The RAF took me on when I was fifteen, stayed as a consultant until I was eighteen and could join properly. Broke a few more records, tested a few highly experimental planes.

Overwatch tapped me when I was just shy of nineteen. They needed a pilot for a highly-experimental plane.

[ She laughs a little at the memory. ] Nearly broke their simulator when they tested me. Most pilots can only keep the simulation going for about forty-five minutes-- designed to throw as many system failures at them as it could, a train-to-fail kinda thing. The record was an hour. I kept it going for almost an hour and a half.

    Now I sound all big-headed, don't I?
    alterplex: (57.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-05-19 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
No. That's some track record— I'll keep it in mind when I need someone to fly me.

[ A test pilot at five, a professional at fifteen. He has nothing patronizing to say about how everyone starts younger these days (child soldiers with AK-47s that cover half their bodies; he's seen enough), but forgive him for being old-fashioned. He has the gall to raise a brow. ]

...This also makes you another person I know affiliated with 'Overwatch'. Lot of you here.
    desynched: (33)

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-05-27 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her track record ends with the Slipstream incident-- the accident that changed her into a time ghost. But she doesn't say anything to that. Besides, she can technically fly a plane; they just can't be billion-dollar planes with highly experimental equipment on board. Her Accelerator and delicate equipment can interfere, to the detriment of both pilot and aircraft.

She lets that subject drop and takes the other one eagerly. ]

Yeah, it's a right reunion. Who d'you know?
    alterplex: (52.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-05-28 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ He'd love to see how Lena handles her time quirks, but he can do that when they both don't have to worry about getting prodded by aliens; who knows, maybe he can show her some close-quarters-combat tricks of his own. Even if they are considerably less impressive than what Lena can do.

    As for her question, though:
    ]

Your medic is the first one that comes to mind. [ To clarify: ] Angela.

Pretty sure the others are more in your peripheral. 76, 'Reaper'.
    desynched: (55)

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-06-11 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ She brightens at the mention of Angela, but then her expression turns clouded when Venom mentions Reaper. ]

    Reaper isn't Overwatch.

[ Not anymore. And she still can't reconcile Reyes and Reaper, and part of her doesn't want to try. Denial doesn't suit her, but it's her way of coping. ]
    alterplex: (37.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-06-13 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The transition is pretty clear-cut; everyone, to some extent, seems to deflate at the discussion of 'Reaper'.

    (Sorry, Gabe!!)
    ]

—Right. He's the ghost. [ Who messed with Pharah and broke Angela's arm, apparently, so Venom's not exactly his Number One Fan just by proxy. Still: ] Bad blood?
    desynched: (12)

    [personal profile] desynched 2017-06-14 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lena stiffens, anger in every line of her body. ]

The foulest. He destroyed Overwatch and now he's killin' ex-agents and runnin' with terrorists.

    He shoulda stayed dead.
    alterplex: (24.)

    [personal profile] alterplex 2017-06-14 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ Venom raises a brow, being that this is the most vehement reaction he's seen with respect to the subject of 'Reaper'. ]

...So he came back from the dead for revenge. [ He would laugh at how familiar this scenario is to him, if Lena didn't look so sincerely incensed. ] But he was Overwatch too, once upon a time.

[ Just to get this one fact straight, even if he did hear it from Angela. Second opinions are always key. ]

[ Lena has a lot of anger, even moreso after learning his identity. Thinking about the repercussions is hard, embracing anger is much easier. ]

Dunno what happened to him, but comin' back from the dead's a tall order.

[ Her mouth twists in irritation. ]

He was one of the founders. Led our covert ops division.
