When: April 1 to April 30th
Where: Thisavrou + New Worlds
Warnings: none in the writeup, but mark your subject headers where applicable!
thisavrou monthly info ( the tmi )
⋆ For the past month, the storm surrounding Thisavrou has quieted almost to a stop. On April 11th, that will change drastically. As the cycle turns, all locations will be subject to a blinding flare of light... and shortly after, a crack of thunder that seems to shake both planets to their core. Emergency protections are quickly put in place, and despite the lancing, intermittent bursts of light, few structures of any kind take harm. But where the plumes of power make contact, the ground will be changed: sometimes aged, sometimes warped, and sometimes filled with a new shape altogether. After April 11, new arrivals may show up at ANY location.
⋆ For the first time in recorded history, the weather on Kauto has changed... to a shocking 68°F / 20°C during the day and 61°F / 16 °C at night. The climatologists are very excited. (No one else is.) Chioni, meanwhile, has dropped drastically, with peak highs of 70°F / 21°C and lows of -22F / -30°C in the EN-Line-adjacent regions.
⋆ Savrii Notices:
Kauto's merchants have stepped up trade in an effort to capitalize oncomfort those panicked by the storm. Protective charms, safety guides, and Artifixx knockoffs are being sold, along with more practical supplies like first aid kits and preserved food. One merchant is making a killing with quadruple-strength umbrellas-- "in case of falling people".
⋆ Mission notices have been posted to TABs for anyone interested in earning a little extra cash. Available missions are listed below:
Day 94 (April 4th) - A mob of Spitelings has taken the climate shift as an opportunity, overrunning Chioni's Burg Three while hot-weather personnel were being cycled out. Survivors are reported, but unconfirmed. The mining companies will pay 300 sencs to anyone who helps to clear them out, with a bonus of 150 sencs per survivor rescued. Day 1, new cycle (April 11) - The recently-acquired Artifixx technology proved crucial to keeping the Ingress Complex intact through the first onslaught of the heightened storm. But with readings projecting further escalation, it's vital to ensure the technology gets out-- and that all regions can be protected. Engineers, researchers, and others with appropriate skills will be compensated 300 sencs per week spent on the project. Day 11, new cycle (April 21) - When storm energy left a smoldering heap of melted rocks in one of Kauto's mountains, observing researchers noted it as one phenomenon of many. When said heap stood up and started to rampage, they took a second look. One very angry landmass is trampling its way from Region Two through Three-- and leaving massive wildfires behind it. Panicked pleas have gone out for evacuation, rescue, and containment. Not many have a price attached, though financial gratitude can certainly be negotiated after.
ingress travel info
⋆ Missions are jobs or specific tasks listed on the TAB once new worlds are open for exploration. Be sure to check if Clearance Levels are required to accept some of these missions.
⋆Clearance Levels are given to visitors for the length of time they have been on Thisavrou (or traveling on the Moira). Each CL offers access to certain things or incentives that others will not have.
Asteroid 276
⋆As much chaos as might be building in the void of space, the Ingress itself appears untouched... at least, for now. The world drops out from beneath you with a swooping sensation and a quiet hum. When reality returns, you find yourself inside a pleasant, well-appointed room, where a calm female voice asks you to please hold; she'll be there to help you shortly. A console on the wall accepts requests for drinks and food, provided a brief survey is completed to ensure biological compatibility. By the time you've taken a look around, the Greeter has arrived.
⋆ Asteroid 276 is a genetic nursery: a commune of talent pooled toward innovation and improvement of life itself. Founded by a group of scientists driven from their homeworld by war, its inhabitants have spent centuries in seclusion, developing their talents to cure diseases, solve resource shortages, and, of course, seek constant improvement of their own biology. All of this and more will be explained by the Greeter, who remains with your group throughout the mandatory six-hour decontamination. While she apologizes for the delay, it's necessary to ensure the safety of their work-- even the briefest exposure to some forms of contaminants could prove lethal to the new life they shelter. And while your breath and physical secretions are analyzed by researchers elsewhere, you have the opportunity to sit back in comfort, enjoying whatever they can tailor to your needs.
Once decontamination is complete, you are free to explore the station. The researchers hope to establish good trade relations with Thisavrou, as well as obtain whatever samples of diverse biology their visitors are willing to provide. As an apology for the delay and a welcome gift to hopeful partners, each arrival is provided with their own companion: a being tailored to guide them and help with their stay. About as smart as an intelligent dog, these creatures bond within minutes to the first being who touches them, becoming loyal allies and assistants at need. Being literally built into the asteroid, the space station has everything it needs to be completely self-sufficient. Visitors can tour the hydroponics gardens, watch a meteor shower at the observation deck, or observe the menagerie of creatures kept for research. While the scientists have, for the most part, reached a stable consensus on their own perfected form, a wide and varied array of species are produced or altered in the labs... ...including, if you wish, yourselves. The main resource the commune wishes to exchange is their own skills: an active form of gene therapy capable of curing disorders and even enhancing the biology of a living creature. While secretive about their methods, they can demonstrate results on both themselves and their creations, and promise no negative effects. Everyone strives to be their best self, after all. Is there anything they can do to help you reach that?
⋆ Clearance Information :
CL 1 - may visit freely and return⋆Missions available:
CL 2 - may transport personal belongings or trade items
CL 3 - may bring live creatures in (subject to standard decontamination)
CL 4 - may bring whatever weapons they may carry (though openly doing so will disturb the residents)
CL 5 - may negotiate large-scale trade agreements
While Asteroid 276 is looking to establish longer-term relations, its residents certainly aren't opposed to more immediate trade. New genetic material (blood, flesh, or a close equivalent) is valued highly here, and will receive trade goods valuing at 50 sencs per distinct source exchanged. Live (non-sapient) creatures receive four times that value. Information about new worlds is highly valued among the Savrii, particularly when they claim to offer as many solutions as this one. A reward of 200 sencs will be provided for verification of the commune's skills-- and twice that for any resources that might help Thisavrou.
(All sencs are awarded ICly when you come back through. OOCly, you keep track of what you earn.)
Important note: More information on Asteroid 276 will be revealed as the month goes on, depending on the nature of player interactions with the setting. Feel free to ask questions here or on the feedback page, and check out the NPC starter if you're so inclined. Don’t forget to respond to the Activity Check!

Kazuhira Miller | Metal Gear Solid (and coming off hiatus)
OTA - CW: NONE PLANNED BUT WILL PUT THINGS IN HEADERS
[Genetic nursery. That's more familiar than he'd like to admit.]
[For one thing he's reminded of Link'd, the business that was meant to genetically align two individuals with compatible DNA or physical construction to create the most optimized relationship and offspring possible. It was the first planet he'd visited as part of the Moira's crew. Dead bodies had been found in hidden locations as part of a civilian revolt (as the cooperation was intimately tied with the world's government), evidence they saw covered by more important and "relevant" parties. The conspiracy grew to the point that the company's founder was murdered and secretly slipped aboard the Moira in a storage container, the location of their base carved into his skin, and the ship absconded with a number of genetic research refugees and the business owner's own cooperative son.]
[There's really no excuse for him to have multiple examples of this in his history.]
[Zero's "insurance policy" back home (something he pretended to buy into when he wanted to use Zero as a means to an end), the master planner's way of inevitably manipulating Big Boss through his friends, through the people that loved the legend, into fulfilling his wishes even if it would just be a duplicate with his strength and face, carefully educated and directed to generate Cipher's will. Clones. More precise copies of the man considered to be the perfect soldier than a carved up ramshackle decoy. A man, he reminds himself sometimes, genuinely thought that Santa was legitimately tracked by NORAD, got excited for a two-man cardboard tank, and worried a vampire might get him at some point. That same perfect soldier.]
[He guesses in cloning that Zero had some choice in weeding that inexplicable but invaluably human shit out of him.]
[Solid Snake has given him some idea of what will eventually happen with nanotechnology, dimly how it relates to genes, about how tailored viruses could kill him.]
[And yet, here's Kaz, sitting and reading about these lack of effects, and gently wondering what it would be like to stand a single chance against some of the people that were so much stronger than him. Not only that, made a point of making him look weak. Inconsequential even.]
[Ah, well. He sits it down to look at people near him. He'll just pretend that he's reading it because he's curious about their intentions. It's not false. Just not entirely true, either.] Do you have any experience with anything like this? [He generally asks without looking over at them directly at first.]
[There's more clone experience and genetic manipulation than one would expect among their group.]

[Dorian's voice should be familiar by now, except that voice is coming from somewhere beside Kazuhira...well there was a pile of Dorian signature clothing that materialized on the chair to his immediate right Kazuhira. A pile of leathers, glittering metal armor made from...some kind of alloy that couldn't be discerned with general armor and metals knowledge, and silk sapphire brocade. He's regretting the choice, not knowing that he'd have to fit himself back into it not one to take clothing off until the day has ended...a lot of work goes into getting dressed where he comes from.
He's standing behind the seat which is where his voice is also coming from, examining the areas on his arm where blood had been withdrawn, clearly he'd just undergone the six hours of harassment and has no idea what to think about it. It's unusual, the look of conflict that Dorian is wearing, but he covered it up by doctoring himself a bit. Not that he hadn't appreciated their own efforts to repair him it was just that elfroot leaves went a lot further to soothing those little pinpricks than their attempts, so he was busily applying leaves to his skin.]
The Imperium believes in doing things using tried and true methods. If breeding can't produce the desired results then let's use Blood Magic. Having any thoughts, my dear Kazuhira?
no subject
[A question through repetition, as seems to be tradition in his business.]
[Also he blinks at the sudden assortment of clothing at his side before he looks at Dorian. Millers still in his relatively soft number- beige slacks and a dress shirt and a soft sweater vest worthy of a kindergarten teacher. A look specifically meant to put people at ease rather than perceive him as a threat.]
[
Usually that sort of thing means he's at his most dubious.]Dorian, do you need a little help?
[Because his clothing is complicated and he's guessing it might be a two man job to do it up with any speed. He doesn't answer the 'thoughts' question yet. That's shelved (either purposefully or by distraction, hard to say) for the moment.]
no subject
[Which was the problem with Blood Magic, a little bit of blood never got one very far, which is why they turned to sacrifice in his country. It was weak...and it was a problem.
A conversation to have in more detail later, perhaps, right now he's giving Kazuhira a sweeping look, because this particular ensemble that he is wearing is new...to say the least. Dorian was never on his guard around Kazuhira so he's not entirely certain what to think, he looks adorable and a bit younger...but it's not a fashion choice that Dorian is particularly familiar with.
He's enjoying it, though, at least on Kazuhira.
Though it wasn't long before he was distracted from his thoughts by his companion's offer. Help? He glances down at himself, he did manage his pants and boots even though there were laces and fastenings that had not been done up properly for the sake of haste.]
If you don't mind, then certainly.
[Who was he to turn down such an offer anyway?]
no subject
[Kaz is, fortunately, good at complicated clothes when he's blessed with two hands to deal with them (he did bless Dorian with a sneak suit, after all). Maybe even with the one, since he managed to dress in layers at his most unsteady.]
[He crouches to start doing up the fastenings on his boots.]
Sometimes someone can weave the exact same pattern of fabric, exactly like someone else's. Sometimes someone can weave in thick metal threads, make it stronger. Cover it in leather, make it the lining to something. To twist it and tighten it into useful rope.
That's what they're doing here.
Not sure what I think about it, really. Were I ten years younger I'd accept it's usefulness.
[And how he talked about the twins as if they were nothing.] Now I know a little bit more about what it can do to people. [He looks up at Dorian.] Is blood magic like that.
no subject
It also encourages him to do up any buckles that he can in front of his pants, his companion shouldn't have to do that. Having something to do with his hands makes it easier to digest what Kazuhira is being told...and he thinks he's getting it.
Well, if he were to summarize it and feed the information back he would say that this was taking another living being and changing it, fixing it, upgrading it...making it stronger...making it better with various other...materials. When Kazuhira turns his face up towards Dorian he considers the question before reaching down and running a hand through that blonde hair.]
It can be...think of what you want, think of anything you want...money, power, men, women, youth, a new body, a better body...you want to change someone...you want to control someone...you want the world? Fuel Blood Magic with enough blood and you can...but there is always a price to pay.
[The last time countless lives were sacrificed so that Magisters could walk in the Fade the world was cursed by Blights.]
It's my gretest fear, you know? Falling to such temptations.
no subject
[He's having this problem now, he means. But in this case, it's not blood magic.]
[Nothing good has come of gifts given freely, though. In some places it was because of slavery, in others because of intoxicated water, in others it was resources for experimentation.]
[And yet...]
[He stands and dusts himself off when the boots are done up, and then smooths out his hair with a trained hand (bless his aesthetic ego).] If it were less of an expense than blood, would it be more difficult to resist? [Is Dorian okay with being Dorian? Because Kaz genuinely doesn't know if he's okay being himself.]
no subject
[Dorian pluck up his shirt next, pulling it over his head, fingers setting to work at the the snake clasp around his neck. There were not as many straps nd other fastenings to work with fortunately, but Kazuhira was still welcome to help.]
My father taught me to hate blood magic, called it the last resort of a weak mind, funny that he tried to use it on me. [Actually, not quite so funny, Dorian wasn't smiling.] The greatest problem with blood magic is that we know very little about it, my father's desire to make me more acceptable could also have left me a drooling vegetable. If he had succeeded...I don't think I'd like that Dorian.
[Indicating that, yes, on the whole, Dorian loves who he is. He could be a bit happier, he supposes, a little less dependent on alcohol, certainly...but over all he enjoys his wit, charm, freedom, agency, thoughts, and strong will.]
Is there...something else on your mind?
no subject
[There's a steep difference between Dorian and Kazuhira. Dorian loves himself to a decent enough, but Miller finds himself contemptible. He's already compromised so much, allowed himself to be so weak and exploitable, he looks at a ruined body in the mirror and deeply resents the stupidity behind its loss.]
[Wouldn't it be nice if-]
[No. Insert that 'Don't worry about it'.]
That certainly shows his desperation to get exactly what he wants. No, I was just wondering what it would be that the Savrii would be getting out of extended contact with these people.
[Good enough.]
They may be honest about their intentions but after what happened with Link'd, I would want to be wary.
[He picks up the rest of Dorian's clothes to look at, working out in his head how exactly these are supposed to go on.]
no subject
Of course Dorian did it too, so he really couldn't call Kazuhira out on it, if he wanted to talk then Dorian would certainly lend him an ear and his support.]
I could not say what the Savrii would be getting...information? Body fluids? I hope it's worth it, whatever it is.
no subject
[Dorian's pretty good at coaxing that reaction out of him. He doesn't know if it's because he doesn't want to disappoint the man by showing how he really is, or if Dorian generally sets him at ease. Perhaps it's not, perhaps it's both. To be honest, Miller is severely lacking in emotional self-awareness.]
It's probably not worth it. But maybe that's me being cynical. [He straightens out his collar.]
no subject
Now he has all of the feelings and depending on the situation he'll show them. He has yet to see Dorian angry, something that tends to manifest as belitteling sarcasm and enough sass to be confusing. If ever one finds themselves confused by Dorian's behavior, it's likely that he's angry.]
Do you know why that's a good thing? [Dorian asks with a kind of restrain excitement, covering Kazuhira's hands with his own.] As a cynic you're either right, or you are pleasantly surprised, you cannot possibly lose!
no subject
Come here, let me make you decent if it's within your ability. [He holds up the top correctly for Dorian to put his arms through (now that he's figured out the science behind its structure.]
Well... when you're used to being the weakest, the most frowned upon, missing actual parts of yourself. I have to admit briefly... I did consider it. It would be nice to be whole again. [Really whole.] But I don't think it would help. I'd feel guilty.
[Because he still survived and the others didn't.]
no subject
[With Dorian hardly being what one would describe as an optimist himself, honestly.]
You know I enjoy it when you get bossy with me. [But Dorian does as he is bid to do, perfectly capable of taking orders when the need arises. He's very impressed with Kazuhira's dexterity, it didn't take him long to learn how to maneuver the mage's clothing. Not something he should point out aloud, but it does amuse him. The leather and silk slide right into place as though each piece had been made to very specific measurements, which they had.
At his companion's assessment of himself, Dorian can't suppress a small ache that makes its way to his eyes. That doesn't happen often, but Dorian's melancholy isn't a complete anomaly either. He stops Kazuhira briefly and curls both of his arms around his companion, a little bit bias in his own perceptions perhaps.]
I thought I heard ambitious, talented, and beautiful. [Dorian mumbled, though he didn't appear to be joking, more comforting than anything else, shifting gears so that he could try to accommodate the atmosphere.] Not that I wouldn't support you in any choice you make concerning your own physical appearance...but why would you feel guilty?
[Dorian understands the concept of survivors guilt, Haven was destroyed. s few people died so that he and many others could live. The feeling could be awful, but his degree of guilt was different.]
no subject
[The harsh judgments of himself had rolled off his tongue so casually, his self-criticism borne from back behaviors in his youth.
Ones that he misses very much, being the hypocrite he can be.] I can tell all of this is tail-[He's drawn into a hug as he's making the unsurprising observation, in the middle of doing up a buckle. Strong arms around a muscular torso covered in that obnoxiously soft argyle. He huffs at the hug, wondering again over the slow process in which he'd gone from playboy to someone so browbeaten he could only see his goals and little good in the creature that pursued them.]
You've got different eyes. [He rests his hands on Dorian's shoulders, gaze flitting off elsewhere.] I lost... a lot of people when I lost my home. And because it was partially my fault, I feel like it's my duty to- [hurt for the dead?] -to put more focus on honoring them. You don't have to worry about it.
no subject
The arm around Kazuhira's Torso tightened just a bit as Dorian considered what to say, what he could say. Tact wasn't his area of expertise, sometimes he was on point, sometimes he was far from the mark.]
I wouldn't change a line on you. For a man who thinks little of himself and his capabilities you do an extraordinary amount...putting yourself last, denying yourself...that's why I do worry, allow me to be your worrier. [Because Dorian has methods for decompressing as well.] With that said...there are many ways in which to honor someone, you do not have to deny yourself. If you think that restoring yourself would make you stronger and more capable than you are now, which is considerable by the way, you could help people...save lives. That could be another way of honoring them perhaps? Becoming a you that can make certain nothing like that ever happens again?
no subject
[He's not changed since he was a child, has he? Smiling smugly as he walked to a shiny, expensive black car driven into the slum, watching the kids that bullied him gawk and reek jealousy as he was driven away from that life. To this day, he's not changed much.]
They're not wrong, you do have nice eyes. [At least that statement coaxes Miller to look him in the face rather than at distant walls or stare fixedly at Dorian's clavicle. Though mostly it ends up with Dorian reflected in his glasses.]
I don't know what I would have to trade for it, so... [He gently does up the last of the buckles finally, though there's a fleeting thought- it doesn't last long. But maybe while he couldn't feel right returning his limbs, he could ease the pain.] Like I said, don't worry. And being a workaholic is an excellent way of coping. I get too bored, I start thinking too hard. Might as well let others reap some of the rewards of my efforts, huh? [As long as he gets a little, too.]
I hope you've spent some time on yourself. You seem to be doing a lot better.
no subject
Nw he simply wanted to change the world, he wanted justice, he wanted fairness, he wanted his homeland to be better, he didn't want his people to be seen as monsters...there was more to the Imperium than the stereotypes.]
The shape of them, certainly, most people rarely get the color right. [Most people are inclined to say brown, green, blue, or even hazel...but that was the light playing tricks, they were gray. It helped that Dorian liked to emphasize the shape of his eyes a bit, he'd seen Kazuhira without his sunglasses once or twice...briefly, he wondered if he picked up on the right color. Dorian could honestly say he enjoyed the blue of his own companion's eyes.]
Hm...[There was a part of Dorian who wanted to help on that score, to give Kazuhira something that could be traded...to make something. Potions typically went a long way, his staff had runes he would gladly give up, but at the same time he also understood what it was like to do things on your own. Dorian didn't like being indebted to others, mostly because he felt like those around him might assume that he's simply using someone else to get what he wanted which was not true at all.] I'll give it a try, but I can't shut you completely out of my mind, still, if you ever get bored come and find me. I need to polish up on certain skills, it's been ages since I've played chess or gambled in a card game.
no subject
[Miller's own eyes have always been very, very blue. At least they're no longer a source of resentment for him- they are what they are.]
I've not played cards in a long time. I might take you up on that. [Another, "I used to do that when I was younger," story, as he has dozens of those.] I didn't mean to sound ungrateful. [He does realize that he did. For all that he refuses to believe his own self-battery is any kind of real detriment.] It's not... I have one person that's concerned for my well-being back home. That's it. So what I have here... it's difficult for me to wrap my head around.
no subject
Good, we'll make the wager something relatively small then. [Dorian just enjoyed playing for stakes, and low stakes were as good as anything given that they were both a bit rusty at playing cards.] You didn't sound ungrateful...well...not by comparison, I'm a perfect pain in the ass at accepting gifts and help most days, but I'm used to people thinking of me as the evil Tevinter that's just here to use someone. [But he doesn't really have to feel that way, not here.] It's good that you have someone who is so concerned for you, one person does make all the difference. [Dorian shifts his eyes as if he's searching for a thought, trying to figure out if there was one person who had the same concerns for him. He could only think of one himself and that was Felix...but Felix was dead. Not really the moment to think about that.]
no subject
[Gone are the days he would call someone "foxy", which could be a good thing or a terrible thing. Mostly it was a purposeful shift in consciousness. So that he wouldn't get in trouble with Big Boss again.]
Can't imagine what would give people that idea about you. But then again, I seem to have made a good impression on you. [Which he can't understand how he gave Dorian, either. Seems that a lot of human nature has been escaping him.] At least... [he sighs, there's no way that he can finish that sentence that doesn't hurt a little. So he lets it drift and pulls from that hug.] I should probably keep having a look around.
no subject
[Dorian has an ego in constant need of stroking...well, perhaps the need isn't constant exactly, but it is fairly insistent on being cared for regularly. Complimenting others also satisfied that need to a certain degree as well.]
There is the occasional person put off by my glib tongue, they are typically the ones who do not understand the credit my tongue gets me...of course coming from the north I tend to be typified...everyone up north is an evil magister, a blood mage. [Another small smile and Dorian continues thoughtfully.] I suspect neither one of us has had a reason to make a bad impression...it takes a lot to get me angry anyway and if the full force of my personality hasn't repelled you yet? Well. [As for Kazuhira? The man has been endlessly patient with Dorian and as he disentangles himself from Kazuhira he tries to think of any moment where his companion has been venomous towards him...he can't recall.] I think I'll sit for a while, perhaps I'll think of a wager for our card game, I have ideas. If you unearth anything let me know?
no subject
[And he's horrified at the prospect of Dorian seeing the full force of his personality.]
You can have as glib a tongue as you want, it's still gold to me.
That doesn't sound the way I... meant for it to sound.
[He gestures off to the side.] Ah... I'll... You tell me that bet when you think it up. [Classy, Kazuhira Miller. Indomitably classy.]
