"Let them in, and take them out."
|
Dutch Velders | Open
[ Dutch has been having a grand time on this floor. There’s a wealth of information here. She’s already sorted through the papers, trying to piece together some sort of coherent message. She failed, of course, but there are still folded up papers tucked into her pockets for later study.
Now, though, she’s fiddling fascinatedly with a broken computer. It’s similar in many ways to Earth tech and yet different in so many other ways. The more she studies it, it seems, the less she knows, and yet she keeps discovering more and more.
Her eyes flit up briefly as she sees movement, presumably another person. ]
Can you believe the amount of stuff they’ve got here?
[ F L O O R T W O ]
[ Immediately upon entering, Dutch gags, putting her arm up over her mouth and nose. She should be used to awful smells by now, but being on the Moira has given her a break from the aromas the Strigoi create. Decaying flesh is heavy in the air and the fabric of her sleeve is barely enough to filter it out.
Her speech is muffled, but audible and coherent enough. ]
Would love a bottle of Pine-Sol right now. Freshen this place right up.
[ Dutch knows why she’s here, though, and she’s not about to wander uselessly. Right away she starts looking for practical items. She spots a blanket and picks it up, folding it over her arm. ]
[ F L O O R T H R E E ]
[ As interesting as the first floor was and as disgusting as the second floor was, it’s the third floor that captures her attention. It’s almost as if it’s haunted by someone, like there’s a presence still there, and surely enough when she finds the recordings it feels even more like that. Dutch sits slightly hunched over, listening, and once they’re all finished she’s left staring into space, nibbling on her thumbnail and staring into space. She’s a little shaken by all of it.
Suddenly, she hears footsteps, and she whirls around to face the source of the sound. ]
You won’t believe what I found…
[ She presses a button to begin playing the recordings. ]
uno!!
Badou hasn't checked out the tech as of yet, but he's a tad curious.]
That antique actually up and running? Didn't hear the dial up sound from all the way downstairs.
no subject
Nah, it's beyond help. Doesn't mean I'm giving up on it yet, though. This tech is kind of interesting.
[ Dutch sits back, flipping a switch. A flicker, then nothing. Her face lights up for the split second the light flickers, but hope fades as soon as it all goes black again. ]
Piece of shit.
no subject
Figures even their tech sucks. Probably wasn't too much of a chance to find top secret files, honestly.
no subject
[ She pulls a handful of folded up, torn papers out of her pocket. ]
I don't exactly know what these are, but they might have been of use if they weren't so utterly destroyed.
[ Dutch tries to piece a page back together, wrinkling her eyebrows together in the effort. ]
Might be the closest thing we have to top secret files.
no subject
Seein' as this is all deliberately ripped to shreds so we don't get enough of the story...Dunno bout that.
no subject
Yeeeah, this is a lost cause, isn't it?
[ Dutch huffs quietly and slumps in her seat, letting her arms fall to her sides. ]
no subject
[way less ugly that way too.]
no subject
Yeah, let's avoid the tears, shall we?
[ She smirks a little and looks up at him. ]
Have you found anything interesting?
no subject
[humming, he lights a new cigarette, plops it into the corner of his mouth]
Nothing concrete. Vague stuff, too vague.
no subject
Suppose you're right on that one.
[ Dutch eyes the cigarette jealously. ]
Too vague to be anything at all?
no subject
[if he notices he says nothing of it and doesn't offer
sorry he's no gent]
Not enough to piece the real story together. Someone got too frisky in the super science shit...kept secrets...and it all went to hell. That much makes sense. But what does it have to do with...well, us.
no subject
Huh. Unfortunate for them and possibly for us. It'd be nice if we could get concrete answers.
[ She gives the console in front of her a gentle kick with the toe of her boot. ]
Doesn't seem like I'm going to get them from this thing, but maybe if I keep trying different things.
no subject
[great, hard boiled advice]
You'll either go for broke and learn too much or...get a headache. Not saying not to do what you do but...if we ain't meant to then I dunno how much elbow grease'll help you.
no subject
Never was very good with adhering to limits, but I do have a sneaking suspicion that finding out too much could be a bad thing. Not knowing anything is going to drive me up a wall, though.
[ She gives the console a slightly harder kick. It feels kind of good. ]
no subject
no subject
Yeah, suppose we might all be better off if we didn't dig too much. Still feel like I should be doing something around here. I hate sitting on my ass.

floor two
She's backtracked a little, although the smell hangs heavy in the air now telling her it is not just one death, but many, and that they have disturbed them. Hopefully they have not disturbed what has created this destruction. Her own sleeve is above her own nose as she tries not to breath through it.]
If Pine-Sol is an air freshener, I couldn't agree more. Those poor souls.
no subject
It's meant to clean things, but it has a very potent scent that's supposed to smell like pine trees. Hides a lot of nasty stuff. Would work wonders for this place. Wouldn't turn back time and save these guys, though.
[ She stacks another blanket on top of the one she is already holding, somehow managing to fold it with her arms partially full. To do so, though, she has to take her arm away from her face. The smell hits her and she gags quietly. Honestly, she feels like a bit of a sissy letting something as simple as a smell affect her in such a way. Some things are involuntary, Dutch supposes. ]
What kind of struggle do you suppose happened here?
[ She surveys the area, then looks back to Padme. For someone as creative as she is, Dutch has no clue what may have transpired here. ]
no subject
Dutch does raise a good point, although Padmé isn't too certain. Letting her eyes turn back in the direction that she had come from, she lets her gaze remain there for a few moments.]
It is hard to tell, but the fact that they are still here, that no one sought to give any form of a burial...
[Well, that doesn't exactly bode well.]
But they do not appear to have gone peacefully.
no subject
It's a shame. No one should have to die this way.
[ It's a little too much like home, the whole idea of being killed and dying somewhere alone without anyone ever knowing exactly what happened to you. It almost happened to her. It sends chills down her spine. ]
Peace is relative, but I suppose you're right.
[ Dutch nods. There's that one saving grace. There are worse ways to go. ]
no subject
It makes you believe that no one has been here since.
[That they had killed and left, and that no one had come in since.]
Did you want a hand? Perhaps two can collect the blankets faster.
no subject
I’d appreciate it, yeah. You don’t need to fold them or anything, I’m only doing that because I’m a bit neurotic about folding things.
[ She cracks a small smile. Dutch had never worked retail before, but you’d never know it. Her clothes, towels, blankets etc were always immaculately folded. ]
no subject
[As Padmé is a fairly neat and tidy individual herself, but there are some things she can wait for. Yet she does move, working to fill her own arms with various blankets, trying hard not to breath too deeply or think about whose blankets these had been. Padmé knew that she would have no qualms about it if the situation were reversed.]
