Obi-Wan Kenobi | Star Wars | OTA (cw: possible blood, gore, death, etc.)
Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi | Star Wars | OTA (cw: possible blood, gore, death, etc.)
"It feels good....being back to normal." he says. "It isn't the first time I've been without the Force, but it's certainly the longest. I'm finally beginning to feel alive again, I think."
Like Obi-Wan, he's falling into exploring and helping, although he's still debating whether to tag along or not.
"What do you think is best...exploring together, or moving off in different paths?" he asks. "Another thought I had is that maybe we could take nearby areas...it would cover more ground, but we could still communicate to each other through the Force if either of us needs help or finds something important."

Picking through the first floor, even initially, is uneventful, although Kenobi doesn't allow his guard to drop. He glances at Luke. "This wasn't my first experience with it either — with this severance from the Force." Obi-Wan finds the memories unpleasant enough that he doesn't offer them outright. Nevertheless, it leaves him curious. "What happened to you before that caused it?"
no subject
Obi-Wan asked about Luke's previous experience. "ysalamiri." Luke replied. "They're reptiles that move pretty slow and don't look like much...but their prey is Force-sensitive. So they developed a natural ability to suppress it. Makes them attractive as anti-Jedi measures...Imperials would carry them on nutrient frames on their backs...not a good thing to run into."
"I crashed my X-Wing near a smuggler base on Myrkyr. The Emperor was dead, but the mods and admirals re-surged at us for a while, and some fighting was going on. The forest was full of them, and I was captured. I escaped but had to survive a night in the woods with the Force blocked...and who was determined to kill me as soon as we got out of there. Luckily it didn't happen and I made it out alive. And, believe it or not, the woman, Mara...is now my wife."
Luke was keeping his senses alert as he talked. Looking around, it seemed something bad had happened...he didn't like it. "Whatever happened here must've been terrible."
no subject
"We seem to have all had our fair share of that," he responds to Luke's point, rueful in a way that feels as much of him now as any of his Jedi training. After all of these years at war, all Kenobi can think is how he would very much like to live the remainder of his life without incident, without seeing strife at every turn.
He shuffles a few papers on his way past and then glances back at Luke. "You married the enemy?" It's not quite amusement in his voice, and he most certainly isn't judging Skywalker for it, but that's certainly what it sounds like.

Floor Two, because why the fuck not.
He remarks on it as little as his friend does, and perhaps there's still some awkward sheepishness left over from the sting of their brutal argument, but he doesn't need to be told about the similar relief he senses from the other man, likely as little as Obi-Wan needs to be told in turn.
Anakin starts to take the lead as they approach the second floor, until he halts at the first door they see and he feels the sudden, intense urge to vomit. The Force is both a blessing and a curse, he's always been told as much, but he never thought he'd get to a point of willing it away, knowing painfully too well what that silence feels like. He takes a deep breath and immediately regrets that too.
There's no need to be as well-acquainted with war as he has been in his 22--no...it's 23--years to understand what lingers in the air. Lanteeb is the most painful reminder, the most present and visceral, as they'd hidden from the Separatists among bodies too numerous to count. Not even the Temple, as awfully ruined as they'd witnessed it, compared to this.
He coughs, and turns back with a nauseated wince. There isn't much choice but to go forward, not unless they want to stick to the deserted first level for another eternity.]
Please tell me we're not going to get used to this.
no subject
We haven't yet, have we?
[ And yet Obi-Wan feels every bit like they've been presented with far too many opportunities to do just that. ]
Watch your step.
[ A simple word to the wise, and one he intends to follow himself as he picks his way through the rotten carpet of once-living organisms. Scrubbing against his watering eyes feels ill-advised, but he'd rather that than trip into the putrid mess they've happened upon. ]
no subject
As is, he keeps his overlarge robe sleeve fixed over his mouth and nose, and tries to maintain breathing through his mouth only. It's little help, the decay is so cloying in the air, it tastes about as well as it smells. No, no one could ever get used to this.]
How long do you think they've been here? This smells too bad to be recent.
[He follows Obi-Wan cautiously, picking his way through the abandoned, likely forgotten corpses (if anyone was even around to remember them), but keeps fixated on anything else he can in their surroundings: the layout of the structure, the ceilings, the less obvious signs of struggle. He has to try to stay focused on everything but, because of course their senses return only in time to be overwhelmed with such complicated misery.]
no subject
Where Anakin is doing all he can to avoid the mess of people, Obi-Wan finds he can't look anywhere else. It's like a battlefield — worse maybe, in that it doesn't appear those left behind could have had much of chance against whatever tore the place apart. ]
I wouldn't venture to guess.
[ There are too many factors in play for Obi-Wan to know anything. Given time and equipment he could make some kind of determination, but as it stands, all he can think about it how he's not sure he wants to proceed if he isn't certain there's a different way back. ]
We shouldn't linger. The fact that we haven't encountered bodies before now does not seem like a coincidence.

She's neither disgusted, nor reviled a the sight. In the last few years--in her whole life, really--she's seen just as many bodies. Some of them in even worse shape than this.
None of it bothers her.
What's really bothering her, more than she could ever possibly say, is the fact that she isn't...bothered. She can't even bring herself to feel sad right now. She feels nothing. She's just...numb.
At least until she looks up and sees Obi-Wan. There's a curious comfort in familiar face.]
You made it.
no subject
I did.
[ And how fortunate he is, not just for surviving, but having a friend out there that's invested in him living on. In light of that, he wouldn't be a very good friend if he didn't try to return the favor. ]
What's the matter? [ His eyebrows knit together and he dips his head slightly, eyes turning to take in their gruesome surroundings. ] Beyond the very obvious, I mean.
[ Perhaps it's a whisper in the Force, or maybe just plain old intuition, but there's a sense of something lonely and cold and stony about Fatima that he doesn't ever remember seeing before. ]
no subject
I'm okay. Just trying to figure out what happened her.
[A pause. She glances from side to side.]
Beyond the very obvious, again.

I've found myself back here more than once already with the same thought, although I've been less than successful.

But he's made a great ash tray out of the remnants of a coffee mug and the jedi did not get the jump on him.
A single green eye slides over to him--]
Whaddya think? We fucked or what?
no subject
If the answer's here, I haven't found it yet.
[ He examines the paper and discards it, then examines Badou. ]
What do you think?
no subject
[hums]
I don't see what'll keep this from happening again. Besides our lack of mad scientist.
no subject
[ Although, considering the quality of the air, Kenobi hasn't had much of a chance to really focus for as long as he'd like to. Every time he thinks he might be getting close to an answer he finds himself a bit too overwhelmed by the death to push forward. ]
Fortunately, most people don't appear to be interested in lingering for too long.

no-!
Aaannnnd there goes the metal scrap that fortunately misses.]
Bartholomew! This isn't the time to be playing!
[Does the bat listen? Nah. He's going in for another round. He summons a billiard ball with the intent to knock the next piece down before it hits someone. When he spots Bart's potential target, Venom nudges the individual.]
My apologies, but I fear my companion is trying to play a trick on you.
no subject
At least someone is keeping a good attitude about this.
[ Kenobi watches the Bartholomew a moment longer and then turns his attention to Venom. ]
I appreciate the assistance. Does your friend do that everywhere he goes?
no subject
He used to do it whenever anyone would visit the ship's garden. I tried to reprimand him, but it never seemed to work.
[Siigh]
This is the first time he's had a chance to explore something since the crash, so I'm sure he's been thinking about this for a while.
no subject
In other words, it would actually take a lot more than a few tricks before Bartholomew received more than the most baseline expression from Kenobi. ]
And how about you? Have you been thinking about getting out for a while, too? This isn't quite the garden we're used to, is it.

Yet, Padmé decides to search elsewhere, just in case. She drifts down the halls, unfamiliar with some of the items that are scattered around. She looks though, pausing now and then, yet unless she is seeking for more cups, there is nothing worth noting. It isn't until a short time later that she finally runs across a familiar form, and Padmé turns in his direction.]
I hope you have had better luck, Obi-Wan.
no subject
If only.
[ He closes the distance, greeting his friend with a touch to her elbow before falling in line. ]
I'm afraid what little I've discovered has only given me the impression that we're never quite looking in the right place at the right time.
no subject
She gives a small squeeze in return on his arm, letting her eyes trail over him. She knows how hard the lack of ability to connect to the Force had hit Anakin, yet Obi-Wan... She will always think that there is a timelessness to him.]
The building was used for something. Perhaps some of the other floors will aid in piecing it all together.
no subject
[ He hardly thinks now to regret his time without the Force, although he'd certainly grumbled enough about it at the time. But there's truth to fact that he could easily take that power for granted, and a little perspective does well to keep him... humble.
It doesn't, however, keep him from being critical and stiff. ]
I haven't been eager to move on without making some kind of sense of this clutter. If there is pertinent information about the Ingress here, it shouldn't be left behind.
