Open - in your subconscious
Who: Pharah and open
When: October
Where: Aboard the Moira
What: Dreamscapes and Waking Nightmares
Warnings:
N/A will add as necessary
Dream walking
Do you sleep?
Do you dream?
If so, you might have a visitor tonight. On top of her physical changes, wherein she is now as blue add her armor and also accented in gold, Pharah has found herself the recipient of some very interesting powers; dream walking. But as someone who hasn't grown up with them, or had any amount of training with them, they're a little out of control. If she had her say, she would stay out of people's heads, but as it is she finds herself - night after night - stumbling into other dreams, other nightmares. Mostly, she just watches, unable to leave, but if she encounters some nightmares? She will try to nudge them back into something happier (even if it means forgetting what transpired that night).
Sleep walking
Because her nights are now spent wandering through the nether sphere of people's subconscious, Pharah's daytime has become something of a struggle. Especially after those nights where she's pushed influence on a dream, she is exhausted when she wakes up and likely to be found dozing anywhere on the ship. In the mess hall, on the observation deck, working out in the cargo bay; anywhere she might pause for a couple moments too shut her eyes she risks giving in to a quick nap.

"Well, I joined the army - as you know. Spent about ten years there, moving through the ranks. I was discharged, with a Commendation for Distinguished Service." She lets that settle for a moment, that was well after the incident, after she'd mistakenly laid her mother to rest. She spends some time detailing her life in the service, some of the people she'd met, tours she'd been on. Sometimes she waits for Ana to give some indication to continue before doing so, and overall it's almost clinical, a tidy summation.

"Did you meet anyone who became important to you in those years?"
no subject
"Not really, no." She'd had a hard time trusting people back then, and hadn't really let anyone in. Looking down at her mug, she takes a breath and tries to explain that to Ana as best she can.
"It wasn't until I was with my team with Helix that I learned how to ... relate to people, on a more personal basis. Seeing team as family." It had taken her that long, after everything that had happened with Overwatch.

She gave Fareeha a look. One that says that yes, she's still a mom and she wants to at least tease a little bit. Her daughter deserves at least that much. And even if she didn't, she was going to get it.
"I mean something more. Certainly you are not going to let your poor mother hang out to dry."
no subject
"I do not meant to." She leans over slightly to rock her shoulder against her mother's. "I haven't met anyone like that, I've been focusing on my career." So is this what it feels like? To have an active mother in your adult life?
no subject
Ana pushes her shoulder back with equal force. Then she just gives up pretense and puts her arm around Fareeha to hold her close. Her daughter had grown up to be honorable and dependable. That's all she could ask for and double so for an Amari.

[Pharah leans her head against her mother's and sighs, deep and content, happy to just share this quiet moment and rare contact. She finds she's still in wonder at the very fact they her mother's still alive. It truly was a gift, when you got right down to the heart of it.]
Where were you, all those years? What were you up to?
no subject
[Her daughter deserved the truth, at least.]
Mostly, I was feeling sorry for myself. But once I recovered my wits, I became a bounty hunter. You may have seen the wanted posted for me, as I worked in Egypt. Shrike is what they called me, I believe.
no subject
[That Ana spent a considerable amount of time breaking made sense, and Pharah nodded. That she had turned bounty hunter and was operating in their home country, where Pharah was currently stationed, hit her with a sickening chill dropped into her stomach. Yes, she'd seen those posters. Her team had talked about it. That or was her mother the whole time.]
I guess ... that makes us enemies, shouldn't it?
[She tries to keep her voice light, but the blue of her Maleficus pales a shade or two. What if everything 76 had said was true? She thought she was doing good but what if she's part of the problem? Hey hands grip at her tea mug; these revelations seemed to be coming one right after another, each doing its part in eroding her stone foundation.]
no subject
[Ana gave her another reassuring squeeze so she'd hopefully understand her feelings.]
No matter what crimes were attributed to me, I still fought with justice. Talon is my enemy, not you or anyone else.
no subject
I knew people interested in your bounty and I would not have known to stop them. [It's a new thought, but it's chilling and probably the fuel for some coming nightmares while she adjusts to this new life with her mother in it.]
[But she lets her mother's words sink in; I still fight with justice. Those words encourage Fareeha, but at the same time they put into focus what 76 was talking about, that it wasn't as simple as good and evil.]
There is another vigilante here. 76? We have had discussions about, I guess you could say about doing the right thing.
[She pauses, frowning. It is hard to articulate why her conversations with him have her so unsettled, but she did want her mother's perspective since it seemed she was on that side of the conversation as well.]
The colony we were just at - they utilized slavery, heavily. I helped others to free the slaves, to train them and others how to fight back, to help eradicate it when we are gone. 76 wondered if I had bothered to ask if that's what they wanted, that I should consider the fact that I'm an outsider disrupting their way of life. I'm just trying to do the right thing, I don't think I could have done differently here, but ... what if he's right?
no subject
[More than aware, really. But she had promised that she would say nothing about Jack's identity to anyone. Ana did have the excuse that Jack had been working in Egypt for a short while. It wasn't too much to say that she had come across and worked with him for a short while. But excuses weren't needed if questions weren't there.]
You can tell me yourself. What if he was right? Give me your answer and I will give you one in return.
no subject
[She thinks hard on that. What if he was right? What if they had no business disrupting the major economical draw for the colony? What if the people they trained weren't able to hold back against the slavers without them?]
[But she couldn't stop thinking about the people they had saved, that no one deserves to be treated like animals.]
I ... don't know. It is possible we left them in threat of economic ruin, or that those we trained would not be able to hold their own against the slavers, that it will return to normal and all of our work would have been for naught.
But, people were suffering. I don't know if I could have turned away from that regardless. [She wilts a little, struggling with her personal identity.] if he's right ... I don't know if I could be.
no subject
[As always, leave it to the old lady to at least pick out the bright portion of it all.]
Whether you interrupted a society with positive or negative consequences is not the issue. The important point here is that people who did not have a choice in the past now do. They could choose to remain slaves or they could choose to fight. Before that, they had no option available to them.
The ability to choose your own destiny is one of the most important things one can have.
no subject
[She listens, and nods. So, she did do the right thing, even if her own reasons were a little self serving.]
Thank you.
[She knew at least she could count on her mother not to sugar coat things or tell her what she wanted to hear.]
[She reaches up to rub her face, still feeling the effects of her dream walking excursions. They're would be plenty of time for deep conversations; she gently reminded herself she didn't need all the answers right now.] How have you been settling in?
no subject
[She chuckles, knowing that is quite an excuse. Ana is just as spry and energetic as she used to be, no doubt about it.]
Aching bones can only get you so far.
no subject
Well, if you need me to get anything for you, let me know.
[She suspected her mother was a little more agile than she let on, considering she claimed to be a bounty hunter, but Pharah humored her in this. It would give them greater opportunities to just hang out like this.]
no subject
[Never give any advantages to Ana. Though she would probably not abuse it too much with her daughter, she would enjoy a laugh every now and then.]
Though, once we are in a more stable position, a drink or two of alcohol between us may be nice. That is, if you indulge at all. If you do, Reinhardt may wish to come along too.
no subject
[She chuckles, as this was an unexpected request, but it's not it if the question.]
I do, though not too often. I either make an exception for you. And Reinhardt is always welcome.
no subject
[It would certainly be a fun night. Even if Reinhardt was a super gentleman, he knew how to enjoy himself.]
no subject
[She smiles genuinely at her mother. Being able to reconnect with them like this was a gift, and she would never want to turn it down or take it for granted. They may be victims here, but at least they were together.]
no subject
[This would honestly be a first for her. Though with their time spent apart, it's not a surprise. Still, another thing she can enjoy with her child while she has the chance.]
no subject
[She wouldn't want to ruin an experience like this, and over-indulgence want her style any way. Still, it's a little teasing from her mother and she is grateful for it now.]
[But, there's one more bit of unpleasant information she's been avoiding. Fareeha doesn't want to talk about the moments she's met up with Reaper here, but she does want her mother to be prepared. Her expression goes sober as she looks at Ana, her tone soft and careful,]
Has anyone told you about Reyes yet?
no subject
[While she didn't feel that anything that happened to him was her fault, Ana did think that perhaps if things had been different, he would be in the state he's in today. The fact that she had always sided with Jack in the past probably caused tension that could have been avoided.]
Personally, I feel sorry for him but I do not condone the choices he has made. Right now, he works for my enemies so I must be careful around him but I would at least like to give him a chance.
[Old friendships die hard, just like old soldiers.]
no subject
[Part of her isn't surprised at her mother's response - they had worked so closely, for years even before Fareeha was born - but it does settle a knot of worry in her stomach. She gives her head a little shake.]
I don't think that's wise. There isn't anything of the old Reyes left behind.
[She wished she could convey his reaction to her mention of family, that unhinged laugh a disdain. It haunted her.]
