wake up in the morning...
[ Pepper's tone is dry as she pads barefooted into the kitchen already dressed for the day, taking in the sad sight of Hawke as she is. Dum-E trills a happy response back as if the greeting was for him, and Pepper smiles as she pats his claw fondly on her way to the coffeemaker. She loads it up with ease and clicks the machine on before turning back to the semi-comatose woman slumped over the island.
Reaching across the bar, Pepper pokes Hawke's shoulder experimentally. ] Just making sure you're still alive.
[ Squinting suspiciously at the glass of orange juice, she picks it up and takes a sniff -- immediately wincing at the alcoholic fumes stinging her nose, pulling the drink away from her face. ] Whew. I think you've had enough of these.

[Is the stuffy response from underneath her arms. But the sound of her booze being unfairly stolen from her actually gets her to raise her head out of her arms. Hawke looks almost comically terrible, her eyes and nose are red, and she has dark circles contrasting her pale skin.]
And I haven't. I've only had one.
no subject
If you still feel as terrible as you look from last night, more of the same won't help.
no subject
Of course it will. Haven't you ever heard of hair of the [she makes a valiant effort to stifle a sneeze here]. Or maybe it's cat, in this house.
no subject
If anything, that practice only postpones a hangover, you know. [ She gives Hawke a pointed look. ] And promotes addiction.
no subject
[At the pointed look she just blinks innocently and then sneezes on her poor piece of toast and then winces at how that makes her head pound. It's sort of a vicious cycle over here.]
no subject
[ Just saying!! Tsking a little at that sneeze and that unappetizing piece of toast, Pepper shakes her head. She can't watch this anymore without trying to fix it. ]
How about I make you some eggs? Protein will make you feel less shaky. [ Maybe. ]
no subject
[And also because she's an anxious mess, hahaha.... But that's a secret that only Tony knows. Also she blinks a little at the offer as she rubs at her itchy nose. She has servants at home so she's no stranger to being cooked for but they are servants. Someone just doing it for you is a bit strange.]
You make eggs? You don't look like someone who makes eggs.
[Cooking is messy!!]
no subject
What do people who make eggs look like, anyway?

[She sniffles loudly. And Dum-E takes that as his cue to beep and carefully drop a box of tissues in front of her like a bouquet for a lovely lady. Hawke gives him a side eye before taking one of the tissues and blowing her nose into it. Dum-E seems to take this as liking the gift and he trills.
Hawke rolls her eyes.]
no subject
Well, I'll have you know I can make eggs and plenty of other things, too. I just usually don't have as much time to cook as I might like to.
[ Her lips quirk as she glances over, catching the exchange. Her tone is wryly amused when she teases, ] Don't go breaking his poor little heart now, Hawke.
no subject
[Hawke replies before sneezing twice into the tissue. Such attractiveness. This seems to make Dum-E happy, probably because he's using her gift even more and trills and does something like a victory spin.]
See? He's enjoying my suffering.
no subject
[ If Pepper sounds a bit like a proud, sentimental mom at that, she'll admit to nothing!! Except no, that robot is totally something like a child to Tony and Pepper. The egg mixture makes a light sizzle when Pepper pours it into the buttered frying pan, leaving it to set and moving onto shredding some ham with a knife to add to the omelette in the making. ]
So, I think we need to find a pharmacy today and get you something for your allergies. You must be miserable with all the sneezing.
no subject
[She sniffs and then watches Pepper cook in silence for a few minutes before a particularly violent sneezing fit overtakes her and she has to cover her mouth to avoid sneezing in Dum-E's clawface. Once she emerges, groaning softly as she tries to recall where she is and what her name is, she finds herself a bit more agreeable to Pepper's suggestion. At least she has the decency to drag herself out of her seat and go wash her hands in the sink.]
On second thought, what's the point of continuing misery if you don't have to. I'm not into the whole masochism thing. Or at least... not like this. Maybe if it involved spanking.
no subject
[ In case Hawke really isn't being hyperbolic. Her heart probably couldn't take it, okay. The ham and some grated cheese go over the eggs and Pepper folds one half of the fluffy omelette over the other-- just in time for Hawke to have her violent sneezing fit. Pepper grimaces, shaking her head again; in sympathy, this time. ]
Glad you came around. We should be able to find you something that helps.
[ All this technology around, there should also be something as basic as the space equivalent of Benadryl?? One hopes. Pepper turns off the stove and pulls down a plate, sliding the omelette neatly onto it. ]
Here. Try to eat some. [ She sets the plate on the breakfast bar where Hawke was sitting, pulling out a fork and a knife from the drawer next and placing them by the plate. ]
no subject
[She wanders back to her seat and stares at the omelet. Ever since Varric had dropped the news about her future, eating had become hard. She preferred to simply just drink until she fell asleep. But once you can start counting the bones between your breasts, you sort of have to accept the fact that you need to eat. Unfortunately, now everything just tasted like "stuffy nose".
Still, she had to put on her best face and eat some of it for Pepper's sake.]
If there is something that helps with allergies.... let's not tell Tony about going to get it, shall we? I'd never hear the end of it.
[She's not going to give him more ammunition in the magic v. technology argument they're eternally having.]
no subject
There is. [ She's positive of that, at least. ] And, I think it can stay our little secret... if you can manage to eat a few more bites.
[ She gives a small, crooked smile. Is she blackmailing her? You bet, that's how all good moms do it. ]
no subject
Then she sniffs and takes another bite of her omelet.]
I suppose a deal is fair in this situation.
no subject
That's what I like to hear.
[ Satisfied that Hawke is making an effort to eat, Pepper pulls down a mug from the cupboard and finally pours herself a cup of coffee, adding a splash of creamer from the fridge. ]
So, aside from allergies, everything else okay? Have you settled in alright?
no subject
Well enough. I suppose I'm going to find a job soon. No more ingress, no more people working on it to protect. No more getting paid to sleep.
no subject
I doubt you'll run out of opportunities here, though. Even if it requires you to actually work while working.

It's just highly unconventional.
no subject
Feeling any better? We'll go find that pharmacy when you do.
[ She wasn't kidding about that, this is happening today!! ]
