deep in decay
When he finishes up, he secures his pet and checks his water bottle before heading back to his room. The feeling of dread starts to wane a bit, though he spots someone who's less fortunate.]
Jim...?
[He makes his way down the corridor, trying to shrug off the worsening smell.]
Are you all right, sir?
no subject
He looks up when he hears his name, but can't muster the energy for his usual crooked grin. ]
Venom? Hey, I just---I'm not sure what's going on. I was just trying to get to a different area, but I'm---exhausted.
I think I ended up turned around as well.
no subject
[He puts his own lingering exhaustion aside and helps Jim steady himself. There's something very wrong going on and Venom can't put his finger on it. It's like the air of death, but it's not the same as he experienced. He doesn't sense it from Jim, either.]
If you give me directions, I can get you there quickly.
no subject
[ He shifts to stand up fully, away from the small, unaffected piece of bulkhead he'd found, and sways briefly before Venom helps steady him on his feet. ] Is this all over the ship?
[ Jim knows too much about the way death can linger in the air. That isn't his experience three years ago talking either. It's from a little colony that history forgot about. A lie spun to hide the truth of what happened. ]
It's, uh, Moro #9. I know I came up a deck or two, though. [ He starts moving, cause otherwise he feels like he could just lay down on the deck and not get back up for a while. ] Are you feeling this too?
no subject
I'm rather used to such surroundings, so I didn't notice until recently. I feel it might be spreading.
[He quietly tries to remember the dorms' location, but the fatigue is setting in alarmingly fast.]
I am. It fluctuated right after I left the garden. If you would hold onto me.
[He's going to attempt to "glide" as opposed to run.]
no subject
I've never seen anything like it, not in a long time, but that was different.
[ Decay and rot of a different kind. He nods as Venom asks him to hold onto him, and shifts to wrap his arms around his shoulders a little more securely. ] Like this?
You don't have super-speed like that one kid, do you?
no subject
And no, I do not have super speed.
[He just prefers not to run. It takes too much energy in these kinds of situations. Venom crouches a bit, and launches himself in a steady, comfortable "glide". It's how he charges his opponents, and it's a bit quicker than plain running.
And it keeps his focus away from the decaying ship around them. He didn't realize how bad it had gotten the past few days.]
I hope they repair the ship soon. This is rather disconcerting.
no subject
Huh, that's pretty handy.
[ He nods in agreement, grimacing only a little as they pass an area more decayed than all the rest. ]
Yeah, no kidding. If it keeps up we're going to have to start sealing off sections, and shoring up what damaged areas we can before things start to break apart.
no subject
[He's had to use it now and then, especially when he battled Bedman. The decaying parts are becoming more and more apparent, worrying the former assassin greatly.]
Let us hope we find a planet soon, or at least a place we can do repairs. I don't want to think about what could happen if we don't.
[His coasting slows a bit, but it's more out of the bizarre exhaustion that seemed to overcome his friend earlier.]
no subject
[ It's not a good thing that is happening to the ship in the least. They could break apart before they even reach the Midway Hub. Not to mention the strange exhaustion that seems to be tied to it. How are they supposed to make progress towards leaving the Moira if they can't even manage to get from their quarters to their duty stations? ]
Nothing good, really.
[ Jim knows exactly the kind of thing that happens when a ship breaks apart at faster than light speeds, and what happens when rapid deceleration takes over after too much damage. He's also noticed how Venom is slowing a little, it must be getting to both of them, the decay. ]
Are you ok?
no subject
That last bit finally reaches him, and he snaps out of his funk.]
Ah, I feel oddly tired. I've never felt like this before.
[Was it the ship's decaying that was causing his fatigue? He stops briefly, but kicks off again at a more reasonable speed.]
We should arrive at our destination soon.
no subject
[ He tries to help by not leaning so much of his weight against his friend, but it isn't easy. ]
Good. I can sleep for a week once we get there.
[ He's joking about that. Mostly. ]
no subject
[Though that might be his own fatigue talking. He's always been the type to sleep only a few hours a day, yet he feels like he could easily sleep away a week along with Jim.
He stops just short of the dorm area.]
I believe we made it.
no subject
[ Jim is seriously starting to hate that about this ship.
Once they get close enough to his quarters that he can open the door for them, he extricates himself enough to do just that, and waves Venom in. ]
Come on, you can go back out there after we both don't look ready to fall off of our feet.
no subject
I am humbled by your invitation, but I must decline. Please rest well, Jim.
[He should be on his way after that, but he's leaning against a random object, trying not to pass out.]
no subject
No reason to be humble or shy, man. Come on. It isn't like there isn't an extra bed if cuddling isn't your thing.
[ He's honestly seriously concerned about the other man right now. ] Humor me for a little bit at least?
no subject
If you insist.
[Yawn.]
no subject
I do. Now come down here already.
[ He reaches out to tug at the assassin's sleeve. ]
no subject
Soon he's lying down next to his friend, noting the comforting warmth.]
Is this satisfactory?
no subject
Shifts, and drapes an arm around Venom, still fighting off the urge to fall asleep right there, and hooks his chin over the other man's shoulder. ]
It is now.
no subject
Within a few moments, he's relaxing as sleep is threatening to take him away. His hand tentatively brushes against Jim's arm before settling on his wrist. This is how people react to being cuddled, right?]
A-ah, well...
[Paauuusseee.]
Good night, Jim.
