[When he finally decides to locate and investigate the room, he finds it occupied by only one other - a human, male, adult but not old by the species' standards, and, for all intents and purposes, dead to the world. Thane himself is tired. Not exhausted, but he's well on his way. The other top bunk is unoccupied, so he commandeers it, withdrawing into the convenient shadow it provides, and settling in to reflect and meditate in order to recoup some of his spent energy.
He won't be able to use the room he's been assigned to sleep. Although the room itself is private, it is still far too public for him to lower his defenses so completely as to let go of consciousness. He'll have to find somewhere else to do that. It is private enough, however, for meditation, so for that, at least, he'll be using it. It's not a complete substitute for sleep, but with it he can stretch the intervals between necessary unconsciousness quite nicely.
He'll sit there quietly for as long as things remain peaceful and the only immediate sound is the quiet, rhythmic respiration of his roommate. Chances are high he'll still be there when the other awakes, even if (or especially if?) it's hours from now.]
