( december intro log )

Who: Everyone
When: December 1st and on
Where: Throughout the Moira
What: Repercussions of Caducus Primary + New Arrivals + The Unknown
Warnings: None, but please label anything you do that needs a warning

SHIP LIFE
"In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Due to the circumstances of Caducus Primary, the captains appear abnormally absent. Unlike before, they will not be seen or heard from after processing the newest members of the crew. They can still be contacted via their MID devices for emergencies only, but otherwise, they have retreated to their rooms and clearly do not want disturbed. They are displeased with the events and will be less accommodating in regards to resources and rank privileges. In fact, they may feel less like a privilege and more like a punishment.

DRUM THRUM THUD
Reverberations of what has happened to Caducus Primary are still being felt despite having left the chaos behind. After the initial influx of new crew, there seems to be the occasional flicker of the power all throughout the Moira—like a pulse, a breath. Do the shadows move, or is it just a trick of the light? Several hours pass, and a message flashes across all MIDs. It is labeled urgent and comes directly from Thán; however, any responses will be automatically rejected.

Our ship has sustained minor outer damage, and the systems are fluctuating as they reboot themselves individually. Take care of darker areas, and travel with other crew if you need to leave your room.

Crew safety is severely stressed this month, especially after what's occurred, and anyone in need of medical attention is to report to the Medbay posthaste. Yet, the crew may soon realize it's not only the power that appears to be having issues as the days progress in their travels.

IN THE FRIDGE
From the 3rd on, things start to grow a bit chilly. With current power issues, a problem that even those in areas responsible for its function cannot seem to solve, there has been a steady decline of less vital life support systems. It soon grows cold enough that sections of the ship that house any sort of water systems may find them slowly freezing over, and even showers don't seem as warm as they should be. ( Those in Mero Deck may find their communal bathroom a rink. ) In the mess hall, late in the evening after all shifts are finished, several pipes rupture and create particles of ice (snow) and a solid slippery sheet across the entirety of the floor. Melting it may be a temporary solution, but as there is no way to keep the water in its liquid form, it might be inadvisable to try more than once.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration, though they may be affected by the power and temperature changes as well. Please advise the captains' warning.

"Yes, that would be one." But for Niko, it was better than being stuck behind a bar. He had his reasons for that, though. Cargo Bay technician had been a significant improvement.

When they get to the long windowed hallway, very little in the way of furniture or anything. Just an infinitely scenic view. Somehow the Serb managed to look a little critical even in the face of what was a beautiful scene. Hard week.

"Cargo Bay is pretty dull." He informed him. "Some loaders. Boxes to move. Things like that."

As soon as they walked into the hallway, Snake broke away from Niko to stare out through the glass. It would be enough to give anyone vertigo, with the black openness of space sprawling out beneath him, and for a moment Snake did feel his stomach jump.

This was real. Unless it was all some kind of insane illusion, but when he placed his hand against the glass, it felt cold. He was in space, but it wasn't Earth that loomed outside. Snake had no idea where in the universe he even was -- this gave a whole different meaning to the word "lost."

Niko's words came through eventually and sunk in, allowing Snake to realize that they had the same job. But that didn't seem to mean a thing now that he'd seen all this.

"How long is it even gonna take us to get back to where we came from?" he asked over his shoulder, already aware that Niko probably didn't have any better idea than he did. "There's at least one person who might notice I'm gone." Otacon... what would he even think happened to him?

"I am not sure."

He was trying to be awwed by it all again, himself. He wanted to look out there and see stars and new places and the idea of a whole new future. Instead all he could see was worlds bound to die because apparently he'd never get away from disasters- just now on a cosmic scale.

Somehow he thought if he looked at places hard enough, he might happen to see hope again. Probably not, though.

His thick brow creased up in an unpleasant pondering look. "The last ship I was on could take people from different times. Maybe this one can send you back to right where you left.

"But I do not trust them to send us back soon."

There was a slight undercurrent of an idea: Someone might have to make them. But when there was no idea how to use the Ingress...
soldiergenes: (and i have no idea)

Niko carried the attitude of having seen it all already. Snake was usually the one who held that role, so he did what he could to stamp down any sense of wonder that came with the view outside. It was all soured when he remembered that he'd been brought here against his will and had no idea when he'd be able to make it back home. So it went for all of them, and it set a pretty dire tone for the ship as a whole.

Getting sent back to the same point in time? That was the kind of talk that made Snake's head hurt, but in theory he realized it might work. Wash was from the 26th century, after all.

Even so, it seemed like wishful thinking. Why would these captains do anything kind for them when so far they'd only treated them like tools in their plans?

"I'm sure everyone else has important things to be dealing with back home," Snake said, finally turning himself away from the view. "Kind of surprised there hasn't been some kind of uprising by now."

If he had known that the first time Niko had seen a giant robot he ran up and touched its foot, he might have been reassured.

"Nobody knows how to operate the ship. And it seems like the only way to get these fucking things off our hands is to chop off our arm." Which, to be honest, if Niko were better at using his other arm at this rate he would make the attempt. He was a little tired of being collared at the wrist.

Either way, it was something that'd require planning.

"They have been the only crew for a while, and managed to go by the same planet twice. Stole from it the first time. Second time? Managed to fuck up and destroy it. This is not too long ago.

"So you come in on the heels of some real shit. Welcome to space." He gestured out to the vast, beautiful expanse. "It's just as much of a pisshole as Earth can be." There was a sadness to that statement as much as irritation. The words from a man who had really hoped that the universe beyond his limited little sphere would be so much better.

Snake glanced down toward the device on his arm, having already made an attempt to remove it with no success. He wasn't any happier with the idea of his every move being tracked, but he wasn't going to slice his arm off just to get around it. It did mean that he had to give a second thought to everything he did, though.

Then again, he also intended to test its limits. Would the captains keep an eye on everything he did, or were they only interested in when his vital signs dropped too low?

Niko didn't have the warmest welcome for him, but Snake didn't need to be coddled by any means. He'd rather someone give it to him straight. With a glance back toward that breathtaking view, Snake shrugged his shoulders. "It's a hell of a lot bigger. That means it has a chance to be both better and worse than Earth." Still, it was a relief to hear that he and Niko were from the same neck of the woods.

"If they circled the same planet twice, how can we even be sure that they know where they're going?" It sounded a lot more like they were lost, and bringing in people (and other species) at random wouldn't help them get un-lost when they were all just as clueless.

"I worried about this myself," he agreed. It didn't bode well. "But I have done many jobs, in the military and in shipping, that often take you to one place and back the same way. There were just the four, so I think they went through the place before. And then they made it to a point and turned around.

"They knew enough to go back to it, that they could get supplies there. They knew the natives were friendly. I think there is a set path."

But they weren't exactly in a good position to get to Navigation. Not yet, anyway.

"The tired looking one, Thán-" Niko pronounced his name strangely more like Then, but that was a product of his accent. "-He seems most open to talking about things. I have been trying to figure out what I can." As casually as he could, too. Exhausted in nature or not, he had to guess the man had only so much patience for constant interrogation.

Military and shipping? Well, that explained Niko's earlier reference to working in the Cargo Bay. Now it made a lot more sense, that they seemed to speak the same language. Not English, but the language of soldiers. Snake didn't find himself coming up against roadblocks the way that he often did when talking to a civilian.

There were quite a few people here with some kind of military background. Snake hadn't yet decided if that was bad or good.

"Some sort of set path means they might have done this before, but no matter what way you look at it, heading back to a place you stole from is a dumb move," Snake said, not holding back with his words. He didn't care if the captains were listening in on all of this. As far as he was concerned, they needed to hear it.

Still, as little respect as he had for these captains, Snake had to admit that trying to wring information out of them would be a worthwhile move. He would have already started in on that if there was any way to get in contact with them right now, but until that changed, he'd have to settled for Niko. "So what have you gotten out of him?" he asked as he shifted his weight onto his heels and crossed his arms.

"Not so much. Just that the ship is not common, and that their crew is probably crew under strange circumstances."

He was digging, though. It was better than nothing. "I am not certain how they came to use it, just that they can't handle it on its own and they can't fully control what brought us here."

He knew they weren't completely honest. It was more a seaman's sense that they couldn't hold their own. A big ship needed a bigger crew.
soldiergenes: (you know not what is in store)

It's not like Snake's got much experience with running a ship of any kind, let alone one that travels through space, but it makes sense that a vehicle this large would require multiple people to keep it going.

Except for the part where their jobs don't seem to have anything to do with actually piloting the ship, but maybe he hasn't met the navigators yet.

"It almost sounds like it all got dumped into their laps," Snake mumbles to himself. It's something he'll need to investigate further.

He looks back to Niko and shrugs. "I'm gonna keep taking a look around, but thanks for the chat." As impressive as the observation deck was, Snake wanted to see the rest of the ship and what it had to offer.
