( december intro log )

Who: Everyone
When: December 1st and on
Where: Throughout the Moira
What: Repercussions of Caducus Primary + New Arrivals + The Unknown
Warnings: None, but please label anything you do that needs a warning

SHIP LIFE
"In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Due to the circumstances of Caducus Primary, the captains appear abnormally absent. Unlike before, they will not be seen or heard from after processing the newest members of the crew. They can still be contacted via their MID devices for emergencies only, but otherwise, they have retreated to their rooms and clearly do not want disturbed. They are displeased with the events and will be less accommodating in regards to resources and rank privileges. In fact, they may feel less like a privilege and more like a punishment.

DRUM THRUM THUD
Reverberations of what has happened to Caducus Primary are still being felt despite having left the chaos behind. After the initial influx of new crew, there seems to be the occasional flicker of the power all throughout the Moira—like a pulse, a breath. Do the shadows move, or is it just a trick of the light? Several hours pass, and a message flashes across all MIDs. It is labeled urgent and comes directly from Thán; however, any responses will be automatically rejected.

Our ship has sustained minor outer damage, and the systems are fluctuating as they reboot themselves individually. Take care of darker areas, and travel with other crew if you need to leave your room.

Crew safety is severely stressed this month, especially after what's occurred, and anyone in need of medical attention is to report to the Medbay posthaste. Yet, the crew may soon realize it's not only the power that appears to be having issues as the days progress in their travels.

IN THE FRIDGE
From the 3rd on, things start to grow a bit chilly. With current power issues, a problem that even those in areas responsible for its function cannot seem to solve, there has been a steady decline of less vital life support systems. It soon grows cold enough that sections of the ship that house any sort of water systems may find them slowly freezing over, and even showers don't seem as warm as they should be. ( Those in Mero Deck may find their communal bathroom a rink. ) In the mess hall, late in the evening after all shifts are finished, several pipes rupture and create particles of ice (snow) and a solid slippery sheet across the entirety of the floor. Melting it may be a temporary solution, but as there is no way to keep the water in its liquid form, it might be inadvisable to try more than once.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration, though they may be affected by the power and temperature changes as well. Please advise the captains' warning.

That would make sense. He'd been thinking about the timing of the Captains' disappearance in terms of what had happened on Caducus, but they'd left just before the newest arrivals, hadn't they? Snake doesn't have any frame of reference beyond absent Captains and a malfunctioning ship.

Clark's expression clears a little. He might not think it was the best course of action, but it was an understandable one, given their circumstances.

He doesn't really feel right going through Thán's possessions like this, but he doesn't try to stop Snake from investigating, either. After a moment, he moves from his position by the bookshelf and takes a look around - not touching anything, just hoping for a clue as to where their Captain has gone.

"What did you do back home?"

Snake doesn't see what the point of coming here had been for Clark if he isn't going to make the most of the situation, but maybe he really thought he'd find Thán and be able to talk to him. Well, it's his loss.

Not that there's much of interest to see here, unfortunately.

Snake pokes into the bathroom as Clark poses that question. It's a question that Snake always hopes he isn't asked, because it's complicated usually doesn't appease people.

"I'm sure you've made your own assumptions about that," Snake responds, squinting at the painting in the corner of the bathroom before he turns back to the main area. "Let's just say I don't really have a day job."

Honestly, Thán left his door open so the crew would feel comfortable and come in when they had questions or needed something. There had been a few times when a small green child had come and gone without even speaking to him. Most knocked first, but he couldn't blame anyone for being curious.

He opens the door, not even attempting to be quiet, it is his room after all.

"Did you need help with something?"

Thán sets his drink down on the table, turning to look at both men, eyebrow raised.

Well, that was a non-answer worthy of a politician. Still, it's somewhat informative. Snake could have easily lied, or tried to, but he'd been evasive instead.

Clark opens his mouth to ask another question, but there are footsteps in the hall just then, coming closer. He turns before the door opens, somewhat unsurprised to see Thán step inside.

"Captain Thán," he says, brusque. "Actually, yes. We'd like to know what exactly is going on with this ship."

Clark is nothing if not calm and forthright. He doesn't try to make an excuse for why he's there; as far as he's concerned, it's fairly obvious. He's aware of Snake's position, but he presses on 'the way a journalist would do it,' without the overt threat of violence. "You've all been absent recently, but you're the only one who's made an effort to inform the crew of a reason for it. I can't help but feel that there are still things you aren't telling us."

Maybe not as quick as Clark, but Snake hears the approaching footsteps as well. He could have gotten his gun out once more, but given that Clark's already made his distaste for that method clear, Snake leaves his hands hanging at his sides. There's no reason to escalate this, now that they've been found out.

This is what he'd been aiming for from the start, so Snake can't say he's particularly displeased that he's been caught redhanded. Maybe it will teach the captains to be more available in the future. If they're not, then the crew members will simply take matters into their own hands.

Once Clark's done with his diplomatic explanation, Snake sets a hand on his hip and chimes in with his two cents. "As a tip for the future, going incommunicado right as you kidnap a new group of people onto your ship isn't the best way to instill good will."

There's no reason for him to suck up to the captains, especially since Niko had made it sound like they barely knew what they were doing. They needed to be held accountable, especially with the state the ship was in right now.

Thán thought it went without saying that there were things they hadn't shared with the crew, might not share if only for the fact that they were attempting to give themselves just the slightest amount of privacy. Miles had tried to tell him that they didn't get to have that since they were captains now, and Thán disagreed, had said as much. He nods though, stepping forward.

"I cannot speak for the other captains, but I've been absent because I carry the blame for what happened on Caducus. It was my responsibility during that time, and I should have informed the crew to assist in gathering cargo so we could leave sooner. I'm adjusting and trying to make it right."

A brief pause. "I didn't think they'd try to force us to leave if we didn't meet their deadline, and I didn't know that one of our crew would react like that to the stimulus."

He looks at Snake, eyes narrowed, trying to get a feel for what kind of person he is.

"Kidnap? We haven't kidnapped anyone."

"You're not the only person who shoulders the responsibility for what happened on Caducus. I don't blame you for it, not entirely." If it hadn't been Caducus, it would have been something else. "Believe me, I understand what you must be going through. But the fact is, Thán, that's not enough. You're a Captain - you and the others. Your responsibility to the crew doesn't get put on hold for anything, not even your personal grief."

He folds his arms across his chest, but his expression isn't without empathy. He's picked over the 'what if's and 'I should have's a thousand times by now - he was down there on the ground with the Hulk. He understands just how awful all of this is, but he also understands that the expectations placed on someone in Thán's position, like his own on Earth, are always going to be beyond human. "There are engineers on board, and people who would help repair the damage, but instead they're sitting on their hands with no information."

He considers addressing the kidnapping thing, but that's in Thán's hands. "Snake isn't wrong. A lack of communication doesn't make it easier for people who are depending on you now."

soldiergenes: (is just too confused to see)

It's not like Snake had been present for what happened to Caducus, but he's heard a fair amount about it by now. He's got enough of the details that he can make a guess at what kind of trauma the crew is dealing with, and that extends to the captains too. But hiding away and ignoring messages from the crew isn't a way to make up for that mistake. It's the exact opposite, actually.

Clark more or less hits all of those points, but Snake decides to add one more comment. "If you feel responsible, then you should own up to it." Burying his head in the sand isn't going to fix anything. In fact, it's making it worse.

Snake wouldn't say that he's depending on anyone here, not even the captains, but he does need answers and they're apparently the ones who have them. Or not, as the situation may be. At the kidnapping comment, Snake huffs out a laugh, mirthless and disbelieving. "Is that right? What would you call it, then?"
