[Semi-Open]

Who: Starflight, Peridot, Jasper & You
When: November 21? Morning
Where: Mero #011, Navigation
What: Post-event catch-all for Starflight
Warnings: None Yet?

Starflight has not been sleeping well, not after what happened to Caducus Primary. He'd been plagued by nightmares of every variety, most having to do with being on the planet when it exploded. Sometimes it was the Night Wing island instead, which was just as unsettling.

He gave up on sleep after banging his head on the top of his egg shaped bed after jumping awake from a particularly bad dream. It was still a while before his shift started, so he left the room to pace the hallways a bit. It was quiet with everyone else asleep, the perfect opportunity for thinking about what had happened.

It wasn't Bruce that had caused the explosion, not directly, but the Ingress. The same device that was on the ship. Starflight shuddered, imagining what would happen to them if anything happened to it. Even after searching the entire library he hadn't found anything about the ingress, which made him worried. He paused, struck by a sudden thought.

Someone had to record what they knew about the Ingress. Why not him?

Starflight dashed back to his room to grab some of the writing materials that had been stashed in the second-hand desk he had brought in after finding it in the hallway outside.

[Closed for Peridot & Jasper / Early Morning / Mero #011]

He hadn't had much time yet to sort through everything in the desk yet, but now was as good a time as any. Bruce was still being held downstairs, and he didn't have to worry about waking up Peridot.

Starflight carefully began clearing off the top of the desk, moving things into neat piles on the floor. With the surface clear, he started emptying the drawers. One of which contained the small treasure he had found on the planet. He had almost passed up the stone, thinking it was one shard of colored glass amongst the innumerable pieces that had covered Cadacus before the explosion. After taking a closer look at it later though it was clearly some sort of jasper. He had put it in the desk for safe keeping, but now he carefully placed it on the wood surface, in plain view while he continued sorting the other contents.

[Open to All / Morning / Navigation]

After finding some things to write with, Starflight had gone straight to Navigation. He was still pretty unfamiliar with the systems, but he had managed to bring up a video of Cadacus Prime from the day of the explosion. It was currently paused on a frame where the cracks that had formed on the planet were visible.

Starflight was sitting on the floor with some inkwells and one of the towels from the Mero deck bathroom. There was a small pile of papers next to him, but he was busy focusing on the sheet in front of him. One of his claws was covered in ink, and with fluid stokes he was scratching at the page, copying the image as accurately as he could.

Peridot enters the room in a huff while Starflight's in the middle of all that organizational business. She doesn't notice the gem resting on his desk right away, because she's too busy stomping her way over to her bed and throwing herself down on it.

It's kind of ironic that, if she would just pay attention to her surroundings, half of what's upsetting at the moment would be immediately resolved, since she's primarily concerned by the fact that she hasn't seen Jasper around at all since they left Cauducus Primary. She and Jasper aren't really close by any stretch of the imagination, but the huge Quartz is an ally, and the only other person of Peridot's kind on the whole damn crew. The idea that she might be gone for good is upsetting, to say the least.

After a moment of contemplating this, she glances over at Starflight, frowning, fixated on his oddly focused demeanor. "What are you doing?" she asks finally, a touch of weary irritation in her words.

"A desk?" She sits up again to get a better look at what he's got

Any questions that she was forming in her head are snuffed out in the wake of the strangled gasping/wailing sound she makes when she lays eyes on the gem sitting out in the open there. Too shell shocked to offer any explanations, she stares at it silently, eyes bugging out of her head slightly.

"That's-- That's--" She lifts a shaky hand to point at the gem. "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT," she rasps, equal parts relieved and horrified.

"Nyyeehhh, no no no NO!!!" Peridot leaps up from her bed, flapping her hands. "You clod, that's Jasper!" She's too excited to articulate her thoughts or emotions properly, settling for hopping around agitatedly instead.

"NnnnnnggaAAAAHHH... " she stomps her foot impatiently and drags a hand down her face, exasperated that she's not getting her point across. "No, there IS another and I know her and that's her that you've got clasped between your pointy little touch stumps!!"

Contrary to her strained and aggravated tone, she doesn't necessarily seem angry at Starflight. In fact, she seems worried more than anything.

Before Peridot can take it, the gem begins to glow. It rises into the air, giving off a bright light that coalesces into something humanoid – hovers there, cycles through five and a half thousand years' worth of regenerations, and then solidifies, suddenly, into Jasper.

She lands on her feet in front of Starflight, looking impatient and annoyed; she straightens up immediately, alert, before she's even taken stock of her surroundings – but she relaxes visibly once she has. She looks Starflight up and down, equal parts critical and curious, but she doesn't say anything to him. Instead her focus settles on the other gem. "Peridot," she says. Her eyes narrow. "What happened?"

Any retort she was going to make at Starflight is swiftly forgotten, her focus set entirely on the other gem as she regenerates. It's an arresting sight, watching a gem like Jasper take form; Peridot is momentarily transfixed.

Being directly addressed snaps her out of it. Peridot stands up, folds her arms over her chest, looking just as annoyed (though for decidedly different reasons).

"You're asking me?" She sounds oddly offended, posture bristling. "I'm the one that should be asking the questions, I was afraid you got shattered up until a few minutes ago when I noticed he brought you back to this room!" She jerks her head at Starflight, indicating the 'he' in question.

Jasper raises an eyebrow as she watches Starflight speak. That's certainly not the kind of conduct she would have expected from a creature with his impressive stature.

"It exploded," she repeats. She doesn't sound skeptical exactly, but, regardless, she glances back at Peridot to ask, "That true?"

Peridot adjusts her visor atop her nose, and does absolutely nothing to try to indicate to Starflight that he needn't be frightened because, let's be real, he probably should be.

"In a manner of speaking, yes. The planet's infrastructure was damaged, causing it to collapse on itself. Because apparently, when an Ingress gets damaged, it destroys everything around it." She is super uncomfortable knowing that there's a similar device right on board this ship.

"Hmh." Jasper frowns, looking at Starflight. "Not very reassuring. I doubt this ship is a lot more sturdy than a planet." A pause. "What are you hiding back there for? Never seen a gem reform, huh?"

"Some kind of magic, yeah," says Jasper disinterestedly. "I'm not a scientist. Ask your roommate about it," she gestures to Peridot, "if you're really that curious."

Peridot throws Jasper an unimpressed scowl before addressing Starflight's question. "It's not like it's complicated to explain. If our projected bodies are subjected to enough physical stress, we can withdraw to our gem stones and regenerate them. Every Gem has this capability."

Her eyebrows raise skeptically, and then narrow thoughtfully. "Which, since Jasper is a Quartz, I'm rather curious to hear exactly what it was that forced her to resort to such a thing."
