Who: Agent Washington (
hatesimprovising), Solid Snake (
soldiergenes), and Alphys (
discomfort)
When: 6/01
Where: Mero Deck, #008
What: Alphys may have drawn the short straw in terms of roommates. Two soldiers and an otaku share a room sounds like the beginning of a joke.
Warnings: none as of yet, will update as needed
[ Honestly, it's already been a rough day. All of the new arrivals showing up is one thing, and that is a thing he can deal with. When Snake had showed up in the room with a dog, though? The first thing he'd asked was if they had to live with that thing. He's not exactly a dog person, so he's not thrilled that the answer is turning out to be a yes. Snake put up with all three of his cats right from the start, he knows, but Wash is a horrible hypocrite when it comes to pets, apparently, so the whole thing has left him fairly sour.
Seated on the edge of his bed, Wash's eyes are on the husky puppy, watching as it bounces excitedly around Snake's legs. His arms crossed, the only way one could really describe the expression on his face as he eyes the dog is as a glare. Entirely sure that the puppy will do nothing but terrorize the cats, he's pulled all three of them up onto his bed to keep them out from under the husky's paws. Thankfully, two out of three have curled up to sleep and aren't causing trouble, but Rainier keeps trying to jump to the floor to investigate the newcomer, only to be stopped by Wash grabbing him and pulling him back.
Opening his mouth to say something--probably something rude about the dog, honestly--Wash is interrupted by a knock at the door. Not a common occurrence in this room. Pausing, blinking, almost sure he must have imagined it, he casts a questioning look Snake's way, silently asking if he's expecting anyone. Pulling Rainier back one more time, Wash stands and makes his way over to the door wondering what this could even be, tapping the screen on the wall to slide the door open. There's a long, quiet moment where he stares down at someone he's sure must be a new arrival before he finally speaks up. ]

...Did you need something?

[Thankfully, that question is an easy one to answer and a hard one to be judgmental about. A name is just a name, after all. She nods quietly along with Wash and Snake's instructions, still keeping her gaze to the floor.
After another silence from her, she finally looks up - at the dog.]
Wh-What about, uhh, him?
[That one barked at her, but dogs do that. He didn't scare her. Dogs can be nice! They're her favorite people to spend time with at parties.]

His gaze remains mostly on Alphys as Snake offers up the couple of rules they have, though it drifts to the dog as she questions about it. Assuming she's asking about its name, though he could be wrong there, Wash finally takes the last couple of steps back to his own bed and sits on the edge. Eyebrows raised, now with a slightly bored look on his face, he watches the husky for a moment before offering about the only information he can about it. ]
He's new.

He won't hurt you. He's a little excitable, but I'll have him fully trained soon.
[ If she'd been asking about the puppy's name, Snake doesn't catch that. He really doesn't put too much weight into that kind of thing. Wash manages to exert some self-control by not making a smart comment about the dog, at the least.
They probably should know a little more about Alphys than just her name, which spurs Snake to probe further. ] So, what's your story? [ Everyone has one, whether they want to tell it or not. ]

[Yes, that is what she's asking. Because she isn't afraid of dogs at all - just the opposite, really. A friendly pup would be comforting right now. Dogs in the underground can be Annoying, but they make for non-judgmental friends.
It'd be nice to pet a dog right now. Instead of talking to these scary humans.]
Uh, um, I'm a monster? From the underground... um...

Snake's question for Alphys does pique at least a small amount of curiosity in Wash, however. One of the few interesting things about the Moira is the kinds of universes others come from--it's something that fascinates him less than it used to, but that doesn't mean it isn't still interesting to hear a bit about these other places. ]
A monster? Like those skeletons and that... What was her name, Toriel?
[ The giant goat lady. He's only talked to her once, and never had extended contact with the skeletons, but the monster thing sounds familiar. Not because of what they are--Wash has long grown past giving a fuck about what kind of creatures or beings anyone here is--but because of the word they use to refer to themselves. Monsters.
He hasn't heard of anyone else but the people from that particular universe call themselves such. ]

So Alphys here is another one. This underground place they're from definitely seems to have captured the Ingress' attention.
Since Wash has already asked the obvious question, Snake turns his attention to his dog. So far the husky is the thing that's gotten Alphys most interested, so... ]
I'm... still working on a name.
[ Whoops. ]

[Alphys met the human - the human, the one she'd met back hom before coming here - after she got off the Ingress, so she already knows there are other monsters on board despite not seeing them yet. Had the human not told her, well... she might be freaking out a little upon hearing this information from Wash.
No name for the dog, then, and Snake is keeping him close. That's probably good, just in case it decided it didn't like monsters, but that kinda makes it a conversation dead-end...
Alphys sits in silence for a few seconds, glancing around the room anxiously.]
..........Do you guys like... anime.....?

[ The name suggestions are tossed in Snake's direction along with a fleeting glance. Wash's tone is dry and, okay, he's obviously not expecting these to be actual names, but it makes his point about the dog. ...Again. It's going to be a Thing for a good long while.
Alphys' answer draws his gaze back to her, however. With...no other questions on the topic or really anything at all to add to it, he takes the confirmation with nothing more than a nod. In the silence that falls, regardless of how obviously awkward it is, Wash's attention drifts to his cats who have by now decided that they're curious about this situation. Now there's a dog and a new roommate to investigate.
Again, he's back to catching them before they jump off of his bed and bringing them back to where they started. He knows they'll inevitably get a chance to explore and investigate all they want, but he's quietly overprotective. ]
Anime?
[ Looking up as he settles one of the small cats in his lap. The way he asks the question makes it obvious what his answer is before he even gets there. ]
No, not really.
[ But he doesn't like anything. ]
