far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

[It's instinctive to use alchemy in a race like this, because it reminds him so much of his training with Ed and Teacher years ago. But it wouldn't be fair in this race, not when Fiora doesn't have the same advantage.

So he simply runs as fast as he's able to.

Alas, the large bird distracts him. He's so interested in it, he's never seen anything like it before, and it completely takes his mind off the race. With a sudden squawk of surprise, Al trips headlong over his own feet just a short distance from the finish line.]

[Tarn grunts as he's thrown to the ground. Almost immediately he's up and after Megatron, clawed fingertips aiming for his optics. He knows that Megatron is stronger than he is. He always has been. But, if he can just get one or two calculated hits in, the chances of him reaching victory are that much higher.

Besides, Megatron may have strength on his side, but Tarn has his own weapon.]

[Megatron raises a knee as Tarn rushes forward with his claws extended, ready for the strike. As soon as Tarn gets close enough, he kicks forward into the Decepticon's stomach, using a combination of Tarn's momentum and the strength in his leg to dig his heel into abdominal armor and launch him further back.]

Has your rage clouded your judgment? You've gotten sloppy.

[Megatron never knew about the Nuke, but he can see that Tarn is lashing out with reckless abandon.]

I see. [Sans nods, sagely, swirling his own glass. Its content is a little more viscous than most spirits, rolling around like red sludge. Acquired tastes, you know how it is.] So in this hypothetical universe where you had feelings, I can see how that might worry a guy.

Here's a hypothetical solution: why worry about it? Just don't go, y'know?

[He notices the scar and the twitch. Tells were his specialty, but calling people on them immediately was just bad poker.]

[Tarn stares dumbfounded at Tailgate for a long moment, drink held still held in his claws. Flying whales? What is a whale? Probably some repulsive organic creature.

Shaking his helm, he puts the thought aside.]

Yes, the precision involved is incredible. I have a copy on a datapad back on the Moira that I would be more than happy to lend you if you would like.
[He neglects to mention that he also has these same first editions still safely stored in the cargo bay. He hasn't found a suitable way to display them yet in his quarters.]

Tell me, Tailgate. What made you decide to become an Autobot?

[Taking a sip of his drink, he waits patiently for Tailgate's response. ]

Um, a lot of things did... but I think it was mostly because it was an Autobot ship that I ended up on and I just wanted to fit in.

[There's also the whole thing about the Autobots being the Good Guys and the Decepticons being the Bad Guys but he feels like Tarn wouldn't appreciate hearing this.]

It was Ultra Magnus who taught me everything about the Autobot code, and Rodimus who did my ceremony. Oh, and Ratchet who gave me my badge.

[He fondly touches his badge. After so many months he finally got one of his own.]

I've only had it for a few months now.

How long does it take a Decepticon to get his badge? Is there a test they have to pass or...?

[Do they have to kill someone to prove themselves?]

[Luckily, the Nuke also clouds Tarn pain receptors. Megatron's foot crushing into with his abdominal plating would have under normal circumstances had tarn at least pausing in his assault. But, as it stands, Tarn is barely bothered. He latches onto his target's foot, Pulling Megatron with him as he falls into a wall mounted control panel resulting in a loud electric zap as it's components crumple inward.]

Sloppy, am I? I guarantee that wasn't what Riptide was thinking as he sank into the cruel arms of death. I don't think I've ever heard a mech cry as loudly as he did when I opened him up. Such a weak, pathetic spark.

[Tarn tries to Pull Megatron closer. How he longs to wrap his hands around his throat.]

[personal profile] aminerproblem 2016-05-21 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's disbalanced for a moment as Tarn drags him forward but manages to stay upright. Fortunately, there was little exposed on the armor of his boot for Tarn to rip into with his claws, but he needed both feet planted immediately.]

[He allows his knee to bend slightly before pushing off Tarn's abdominal plates, crushing the panel beneath them further as he attempts to wrench it free from his grasp and thrust the boot back onto the ground. Something was definitely different about his former student.]

What have you done to yourself?

[Kyoko nods. There's always a way to fix things. Even the hands of time can be wound back if the right price is paid.]

Good.

[She scans the empty bar again.]

Let's get back to your house before we start talking about that. I'm still hungry, y'know. And...

[Her mouth opens to continue, but she holds the words back. She shakes her head. She hates everything about the look of this place.]

... Never mind. Let's go. For now, you can just tell me more about this place. Name's Snowdin, right?

"As long as it's what you want to do." She gave him another searching look, then turned back to sit properly in her seat again. "If it's too... I don't know, too hard for you to be there, we can leave."

She got what he meant, and if it was important to him, it was important to her...but not as important as Niko and his well-being.

"You know, you never told me much about what she was like." Thinking about her alive had to be easier - at least, that was what she hoped. She'd rather think of Kate as a real person - build up a picture of her in her mind that wasn't just a victim or a source of pain. It felt more respectful that way, to Tali. "Was she a merc as well?"

[As Megatron begins trying to dislodge himself, Tarn immediately shoves him backwards, hoping to catch him off balance and topple his weight. Regardless of whether or not he actually falls, Tarn is back on him, trying to get his hands around his throat.]

Just a bit of a kick in the right direction. Nucleon-- a finite strain found only in a specific mining shaft on Messatine. It provides all the boost one might need to face a ex-warlord, such as yourself.

[It also helps that the Nuke keeps the fires of his rage stoked and blazing wildly.]

A bit of performance enhancement never fails to keep the playing field even.

[That brings her gaze back up to his. Her smile isn't as warm as it might have been earlier, but it's there, and she stretches up to kiss his cheek.]

Yours, too.

[Tugging a little at his hand, she starts them walking again--in a different direction from Yoda.]

What did you see when you went inside that cave? Are you allowed to talk about it?

[The ships are impressive to say the least, providing a glimpse into a world Sans can only imagine. Living on the Moira felt more akin to living in a giant floating building rather than individual space travel. Sometimes the observatory was the only spot that really felt like space.

Staring up at the ship, Sans can't quite help going a little starry eyed. No matter how cool he tries to play it, space has always been a passion of his.]

Are those for low orbit only or can they handle deep space?

[ It is a lot for one person to do, accompanying someone he barely knew on a trip back to their home. Not just to show him around, or to get something out of it, but to let the other man enjoy himself, to let him see his family one more time before they get pulled back.

He'd never admit how truly selfless he is, but it's all right there in his actions. Behind that surly, feigned disinterest he's now having a hard time maintaining, when Eggsy starts talking about his baby sister.

He looks at the younger man. ]

You think so? [ Leonard's kind of hoping they do, too. But he's always been good with kids. They're a lot easier to talk to, and a lot better company than most adults.

The doctor's frown laxes a little. ]
Y'know, I wouldn't mind steppin' out for a while, if you want some time alone.
redshitlord: (but you --)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-21 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, yeah, point.

[He knows he'd wig out a little if something important to him got changed. Like his actual home. He's pretty sure the scrapyard wouldn't change much to accommodate another human.]

She did? I... guess I wasn't listening that much. [Or at all.] Your place? Like. Room or something?

And that involved stealing armor...why? How did you even meet?

[He can follow a lead perfectly well--like now, even if this is not armor he ever imagined himself in--when the situation calls for it, but this doesn't seem like something that would be a terribly common situation.

But then, he's an agent of his acting government, not trying to get rid of it. There's plenty in this distinction he doesn't understand. But when offered the barest hint at how his children met through years of unexplained separation, it's one he can't refuse, however strange the circumstances.]
hyperkinesia: (And he tells you everything?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-22 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Her remark, along with her grin, draws a chuckle from him, and arching his eyebrows, he tips his head just so.

"Thank God for that. It'd get a little too crowded for my taste."

[personal profile] ex_forcechoke292 2016-05-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't really work like that.

[It's a softer admonishment, probably one of the softest he's offered anyone, but he can't help the way his grip on the saber tightens. It may not seem like a big deal to her, but he can feel the sudden flash of recognition, and the excitement that comes with it. She may seem perfectly trustworthy, and with his life, perhaps, he'd give in with little argument. But he's seen his own lightsaber (or someone else's) stolen one too many times to trust anyone with it.

Except his wife, but there's a time and place for that.]

...Who?

[personal profile] ex_forcechoke292 2016-05-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
If they don't want us attached to people, we shouldn't have mentors either, and yet. [He shrugs with a short, wry laugh. The Order is full of contradictions, and he's certainly not afraid to voice that. Better everyone knows what they're getting into.

He wants to ask what she means by that, ask what the temple has become by the time she's reached his current age, but instead he simply finds himself nodding, even past his apparent confusion. There's time enough for that later. Home is a different matter entirely. For them both.]

It might not be the same still [obvious from how their concepts of home have merged into one another], but I would be happy to.

[Luke talks while he works,] Well, she was captured. She needed help, and I intercepted the transmission. There was-

[Suddenly, the crackling static of the helmets rises in pitch, transforming into a voice-] We can't find Lord Vader. Does anyone know where the Lord Vader is?

[Another voice,] Last I heard, he was in the Carbonite chamber with the bounty hunter.

[Perhaps, through the Force, Anakin can feel the spike of fear in Luke. He certainly can't see his expression through the helmet Luke's now wearing.] We need to go.
deal: (brave)

[personal profile] deal 2016-05-22 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[She only shrugs at his initial admonishment, not really looking too much into it. She wouldn't let anyone see or touch her lightsaber, either. At his question, she hesitates. Not because it feels like she's doing something wrong, but because she's so used to having to barter for any information she gives out. She has to remind herself that Anakin is her friend, and that gives him a pass for information.]

My friend. His name is Luke. Do you know him?

[If he thinks too hard about it this is going to seem awfully morbid.

He shoulders the bag, wondering if it's worth suggesting that he at least change back-- wearing her father's things feels stranger than any of the rest of it-- but maybe they'll attract less attention wandering around like this.]

I think this counts as a special occasion.

[This does suit his interests, and it seems less invasive, somehow, than picking through her personal things.]

So how bad is being put in the blue room?
imahologram: (fifty-six.)

[personal profile] imahologram 2016-05-22 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[It's probably morbid whether they think about it or not, but it's also the only reasonable answer Leia sees. Cajoling people to try to leave Alderaan with her: not reasonable. Stealing a few choice bottles of wine: if not reasonable, at least accomplishable.

It seems wrong to let this opportunity go to waste.]

So do I.

[The question makes her laugh a little as they begin to walk. She casts one last glance back at her room--at her little keepsake box in particular--but she can't cart out everything. There's a point where this is bound to look suspicious.]

It depends on what you consider bad. [The only times it's happened before, the young men in question were colleagues rather than paramours.] Mostly, it means my parents are worried you're planning to sneak into my room in the middle of the night and ravish me.

[personal profile] straightouttacarbonite 2016-05-22 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[There's only so much they can carry back, and there's only so much space on the Moira for sentimental things, right? And only so much on the Falcon, for that matter, if they ever manage to take her home. What little they can rescue-- if anything-- will have to do.]

Wouldn't you be upset if I didn't?
