far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

He looks thoughtful at the question, for a few seconds actually trying to go through a list in his head before he gives her a small smile.

"Do you really want me to count? I'm... I don't want to brag but it's a lot."

She grins at him and takes a sip of her wine before speaking.

He chuckles almost self-consciously, swallowing a piece of ravioli and kind of failing at looking cool.

"So it's hot that I speak a lot of languages, huh?"

[Luke Skywalker, currently hiding an unconscious man in his underwear behind a pillar so he can steal his clothes, takes a moment to consider this question.]

Uh, yes. A few times. The first time was when I met Leia. [He thinks that might be relevant to Anakin, who clearly gets along with her far, far better than Luke does. Luke doesn't let himself think about why that is; it just fills him with guilt.]

Once the function of the strange Ingress had been explained, Rinzler knew better than to pass through it on his own. And if exploration (and more urgently, distraction) might be in line with the program's interests... there weren't many people he'd trust enough to travel with.

Texas' offer had come as a surprise. And if Rinzler had some private doubts as to her reasons, he still wasn't going to turn down the opportunity. He met on time beside the portal, leaping through a fraction of an instant after her.

A surge of light and storm and power, and the world reshaped itself around them both. At first, Rinzler almost thought he'd jumped too soon. Cool stripes of neon blue trace the borders of the room, an eerie smoothness to the walls or surfaces that almost reads as coded. But it doesn't scan the same... and when Rinzler approaches the nearest window, it reveals an entirely unfamiliar cityscape below. The architecture bears some resemblance to the Grid, angles and lines of light framing the buildings. But the layout—and the long, packed highway spread out just below—is strange.

The enforcer's ticking rumble stays quiet as he glances toward his partner, mask angling to the side. Where are they?

[Zam can’t help but give an incredulous laugh at that, though not for the reasons Bel might assume. The thought of a planet where it’s a prosecutable offense to demean someone else mixed with Zolan of all places is pretty damn funny. This fusion must have some very confused laws on the books.

Once the helmet’s on Bel’s head, Zam pins up the veil, shielding the lower half of Bel’s face. She only gives a crooked smile at her friend’s concern.]
More than alright. Clawdites were literally made not to let the sun get to us. [Her words take on a teasing tone.] It’s your delicate human constitution I’m more worried about.

[A glance back towards the canyon wall and she gestures for Bel to follow. The intense sunlight is immediately familiar, its peculiar heat carrying with it a thousand memories of home. None of them are particularly pleasant, but Zam feels a strange sense of nostalgia all the same. She wonders what other features this planet shares with Zolan -- hopefully, not too many others.]

[Zam nods, idly tapping her heels against the ledge.] But you’re still here, [she points out,] thinking about it. There has to be some reason for that. [She’s not sure whether she’s trying to talk him into jumping, or herself. This could be the last chance any of them get to see home again, after all. Or at least, something close to home.]

One - Amestris

[Al was nervous about coming here, about seeing his home, but he knew it was the next necessary step. He needed to see if it was as he remembered it so that he and Ed knew if there was a chance of stopping Father, a reconnaissance mission in which he desperately wanted to find hope.

What there is instead, is a beautiful little house atop a grassy hill. A house that shouldn't be there because it was burned down years ago.]

That's-- that's my home.

[That's impossible.]

Two - Mingled worlds

[Al is stood outside the strange Ingress, disturbed now that it's changed from what it was before.

It doesn't change that he needs to get back still, he has to keep trying no matter the cost. He keeps his eyes ahead, determination radiating off him in waves, before he steps in.]

[ooc: For mingled world, feel free to fall in after Al, assume he accidentally knocked your character, or jumped in to save him.]

Of course not, these are one of a kind.

[Tarn Takes a moment to admire his prize posessions.]

First Editions of Megatron's manifesto. A fellow by the name of Terminus had his words inscribed in their viscera before they were shipped back to Cybertron at the beginning of the revolution. Quite clever, wouldn't you say?

[fetching two glasses and a cask of highgrade, Tarn pours out hefty servings and adorns them with drinking straws before having a seat across from his minibot companion. He nudges a glass towards Tailgate as he picks up his own.]

Have you read his work? Towards Peace is truly a work of art. Megatron was full of tremendous ideals-- at least he was before he became an Autobot.

[personal profile] daintylegs 2016-05-19 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Towards Peace? I've ever read it myself, but I know that Megatron had a copy of it here for a while. But then we landed on a planet with flying whales and something something we needed to give them things to protect the whales. So Megatron gave up his poetry and his book for them. It was really nice of him.

[He chatters on and picks up the highgrade. It's always nice when people remember to give him a straw, and he drinks from it appreciatively. The highgrade itself is pretty good, but he privately thinks that Swerve's drinks are better.]

It must take a lot of dedication to write the first edition of something on a dead body.

[Tarn doesnt even need to Turn to look at Megatron to know that he's there. His shock and anger is clearly palpable in the air.]

You're late.

[Of course Tarn had been expecting Megatron's arrival. He knew the minute that Riptide attempted to contact him on his MID that it was merely a waiting game. With his processor still buzzing with the effects of the Nuke that he had fueled with and his recent kill, Tarn is long beyond the point of reason.

He's had enough-- Of this planet, of this ship that he's been forced to inhabit... If he has any chance at all of ever defeating Megatron, the time is now. Never will the conditions be any better than with burning rage and preformance enhancement on his side

And once Megatron is out of the way, it's a clear shot at the rest of the crew.

Finally Tarn turns to look at Megatron, hands twisting into fists at his sides.]

"That's true. But... I made a friend in a man that resembled a sort of hostile force back home. I guess I've learned I can't judge. It takes some work, though." Especially when things that resemble the Parasite Unit, those lethal, hostile creatures that ruined his body, still made his skin crawl.

"I'll keep it between us," he promised. "Got used to keeping secrets."

The less people know, the better. Either the words of someone afraid or someone meaning to do something. Miller had seen both ends of that thoroughly. Him... there was enough secrets, enough lies, he'd rather know. But for other people, he knew how to hold his tongue.

"Someone might come after you?" Considering how the rest of the conversation had gone, an easy conclusion.

"I have never heard a man unironically use the word minions. You are a unique man, friend." He stopped to give Liquid a good, friendly pat on the shoulder, before yelling again.

"You hear that, you fucks! We're coming down there."

And that's when he noticed it. Movement from upstairs, a flash from a gun. Niko was a sturdy guy, he'd taken a lot of bullets, and normally he would have ducked out of the way only with a burn or a nick the moment he noticed that. But this time he was just too aware, too prickly, and whatever had been done to him after the station kicked in and he ducked under a spray of semi-automatic metal vomit like he was limboing.

And when he came back up? "Really?" A question that he asked at thin air as he shot into the darkness and the man came sliding down the steps on his ruined face.

"....I think there are more men upstairs." No, Niko, you think?

Rather than have time to respond to what she said, he just got out of the car and followed her in with a lazy stride. Sort of awkward being in this sort of store, but he just let her go and run off while he was eyeballing some sneakers.

"Hey, ah.... pick stuff that looks like it will last. And maybe one or two that are a little big so you can grow into them." That had always been important in his family- people didn't make it to stores often and hand-me-downs had been important.

The woman behind the counter smiled pleasantly at them, fondly. Hell if he knew why. He just turned his back and started trying on running shoes.

"Aww now that's not fair. If those guys obeyed the laws of nature, I'd have been fine. They just wouldn't die!"

As they drive the long stretch from one platform to another, two soldiers were making the arduous trek by foot in the pedestrian lane. When they're close enough for a visual, the two salute Miller, and Bucky slows down the vehicle.

"Ate ease, ladies," he tells them with a wave of his hand before driving off.

"You know, I already have a gun. Two in fact."

"Sure," he said. Because for all that he was from a normal world, he was from an abnormal one too. What with parasites that gave people the power of camouflage and apparation.

"I'd rather know that not know. Even if I might take a while to understand."

Somehow, knowing always came in useful. And there'd been too many obscure, shady things in his life.

"Bucky don't let the power go to your head." He said as he glanced over, and as if such a thing were remotely possible. "They'll stay that way until we're out of earshot anyway. Unless an attack is happening.

"When the talk, they assume I don't hear. I always hear."

He settled back, making a failed attempt to cross his arms before he remembered. "It's not guns I'm going to be giving you."

He said it mildly, and vaguely unsurprised. "Dr. Huey Emmerich designed his last metal gear with what looked like giant gun turret genetalia. So.... wouldn't be the first time."

Maybe some guys that designed robots were just like that.

[Doc Yewll nods and thinks about it.] You know... this raft would be especially dangerous for you, you know.

It is worth dying for. Believe it or not, I don't disagree with your mother. But I would much prefer you had a stable boat.

[Still Doc Yewll was standing up and pulling off her boots, as if she plans to wade in.] I'm not gonna get eaten out there, am I?

The whole world is covered with water. That's the risk that comes with powers like mine. [When she ate her Devil Fruit, Robin was a bit too young to fully understand the consequences - but for most people it's a decision to be taken very seriously.] I wish I had a better boat too, but there aren't any left on this island.

[Or rather, there are. Much bigger, infinitely better boats - but none of them are intact or salvageable in any real way. They'd all been destroyed (supposedly) by her, when Ohara had been attacked.

She looks up, curiously, as the doctor takes off her boots. Robin lets out a small smile as she realizes that Doc Yewll is still going to help, despite her reservations.
]

...if you do, I'll tell everyone back on the ship that you died bravely.

Liquid glanced over at him with an eyebrow raised, fist clenching automatically at the feeling of the pat on his shoulder, but he relaxed that quickly. He never did have the best reaction to friendly pats. "...I thought it was a good word for it."

He took a step, ready to head down with him, but Niko seemed to spring into action immediately as someone started shooting. And Liquid really couldn't do much else but watch as he masterfully avoided the bullets. He tried not to look too impressed. He did a bad job of it.

He watched the sliding guy for a few moments, then looked at Niko with a grin. "Nice." That particular 'nice' had a hell of a lot of compliment in it for a four-letter word.

He peered up the stairway, careful in his movements. "Seems like upstairs is the way to go, then. Unless they're meant to be a distraction, but something tells me they're not quite smart enough for all that. Unless you'd like to split up? But I'd hate for either of us to miss the action either way."

And that's something he appreciates, seen as his intellect is probably one of his best (and few, in his opinion) qualities.

"Do you know any Portuguese?"
