far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

[Papyrus squeezes Frisk's hand, trying to reassure them as much as he's drawing comfort from having them near. His last memories here weren't good ones, and it's not easy to separate those feelings from the small figure at his side.]

Oh, that's right! You passed through here once, didn't you? Did you get to see everything? Did you ever visit my house?
redshitlord: (but you --)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-05 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He's really not all that sure about this. Not because he dislikes Papyrus or doesn't trust him, but not everyone could be so relaxed about robots -- or as enthusiastic about them -- as the skeleton.]

S-sure thing, dude. Right behind you...

[Still a little unsure, and trying not to show it, he ducks forward to lightly grip Papyrus' shoulder with two fingers, just in case he'd get thrown into a pit or something else weird through the Not-A-Spacebridge.]

[Instead... there's... cold stuff?]

Snowdin? Is this... snow?

... whoa.

[He's not sure what else to say. Earth is the only other planet he'd ever been on before (well, before this whole thing with the Moira, anyway). Maybe it's best to say, it's the first really inhabited planet he's ever seen before.]

[He does end up sticking pretty close to her, though, crouching down to ask, after a bit too long:]

Should I... you know. Car-mode this one? People aren't going to scream about me, are they?
redshitlord: (no more for sure)

And once more, he's padding up behind her, peering over her shoulder. Granted, it's not all that hard to do, given their height difference, but oh well. He'd already hopped through once or twice. So, for a while, he stands there behind her, looking between the human and the portal.

"You okay?" he asks, curious. "It's not that bad, if you're worried. It's just kinda like going through a car wash, except there's no brushes."

[Mettaton laughs, a gloved hand going to his mouth for extra effect.]

I would have done more often if I'd known you were here, darling! At least there was always television to go with! That said, I'm afraid I don't tour down here anymore, not since the barrier was broken.

[Still, he does regret not visiting Snowdin more often. It was a peaceful-looking place. Well...you know, it would feel more peaceful if it weren't so empty...

Shaking off that feeling, he walks closer to some of the buildings and inspecting them.]

Grillby's. A bar, is it? It doesn't look too bustling.

[He looks back to Papyrus curiously.]

Eliz-- [But that's as far as Wanda gets before she's pulled in, barely able to summon enough power to propel herself forwards in time.

It's not enough.

They meet the barrier at the same time, emerging into something that is mostly Columbia interspersed with pale buildings in a completely different architectural style and Cyrillic signs. In the distance, a white castle floats on a new island.

Wanda's quick to reach for Elizabeth's hand, shocked and overwhelmed. This was not the plan.]

Elizabeth...I'm sorry...

Frisk laughs and nods, and Papyrus only has the warning of "Follow me!" before Frisk is leaping off into the portal. The descent is kind of nostalgic, in a morbid way, but rather than golden flowers it's a field of grass that the pair of them land in.

A somewhat small field of grass, seeing as it's in a public park, but still a lot more open than anything in the Underground. Frisk recognizes the area--this park is close to the section of town that had been given over to monsters, and they can see a few roaming around or sitting on benches right alongside humans...well, mostly. No one is being attacked or yelled at, though, which is the really important part.

Above the skies are clear aside from a few white, fluffy clouds, and the sun shines warmly down on the pair. Frisk looks up at Papyrus with a wide grin--yes, he's seen planets and suns and everything before, but this is their home, and Frisk's favorite part of the adventure was always seeing everyone take in that first view of the surface. "Do you like it?"
gainedlove: (* Be Happy)

[personal profile] gainedlove 2016-05-05 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Even without knowing the little bit of brotherly drama, Frisk can understand Sans's nervousness. He's tired in ways that no one else they know really is, and...well, he's admitted it to them before, hasn't he? He gave up on this dream a long time ago. But Frisk can give it to him now, at least in part, and they're going to make sure it's perfect.

Frisk giggles when he scruffs their hair up, reaching with their free hand to brush a few stray locks back into place, and squeezes his offered hand gently. "Okay. Here we go!"

Over the edge, and down, down...

They pair of them land with a stumble in a clearing on the side of a mountain, the air crisp and clean and the sight of a bustling city only a few miles away. The sun is setting on the horizon, casting the sky into a beautiful painting of oranges, reds, and purples, and all around the quiet sounds of nature provide a calm sort of tune to set the mood.

Frisk is pretty sure everyone had camped here, in one timeline.

Smiling, they turn to Sans to see his reaction before saying anything. They're not sure if he'll need a minute or not--usually everyone does, but normally the monsters haven't seen a sight like this in ages and ages. Compared to actually travelling through the stars, it's not nearly the breathtaking sight it could be otherwise.

Frisk smiles gently, squeezing Asriel's hand. "Of course it is! I promised I can handle everything, didn't I?"

They have no extra pots on hand, but Flowey has ridden on Frisk by clinging with his roots sometimes. They rather suspect the restriction of the pot is more for the state of mind it confers than any actual need to be in the dirt.

"C'mon, you gotta see it at least once!"

Frisk is utterly charmed by the few mushi that can be found, reaching to poke at or gently scoop up the ones that drift closer, out of curiosity or Ginko's natural magnetism. In the silence their tiny voices are that much clearer, and Frisk can't help but want to investigate.

"They're so cute!"

Frisk. Frisk, do not pet the mushi. DO NOT--

They're petting the mushi.

Papyrus had seen cities before, but this was something else. Dizzyingly tall buildings, heavy traffic, people absolutely everywhere. It was amazing and exciting and he wasn't even slightly upset at the old woman who shouted at him in words he didn't understand when he took a step backwards right onto her foot. He apologized and wished her a good day and kept right on trucking.

He just wanted to race cars and see the city, and maybe bring back a gross plate of junky grease for Sans. Niko's instructions jarred him out of his planning, and he nodded eagerly.

"Quick! Dirty! Got it! And don't worry, I wouldn't bring a weapon."

[personal profile] coolskeletonnyehntyfive 2016-05-05 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, of course! There's snow on the ground all the time in this part of the Underground!

[Sideswipe looks a bit baffled by it, and Papyrus can't help but grin.]

Have you really never seen snow before??

[Papyrus laughs at Mettaton's joke -- the barrier! Broken! Hilarious! At least, he's pretty sure that was meant to be a joke. Of course the barrier still existed, King Fluffybuns needed... something or other. He wasn't sure what, but he knew there was only one left to find.

Oh, wait, Mettaton was still talking.
]

Oh, yes, my brother wastes so much time in there! It's sad, really...

[For the first time since meeting him, Papyrus avoids the robot's glance in his direction.]

Well, you see... it's sort of a long story!
coolskeletonnyehntyfive: (pic#9852982)

[personal profile] coolskeletonnyehntyfive 2016-05-05 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you say so...

[Grillby's is unlocked, but much like the rest of the town, it's deserted. A card game is laid out on a table in the back, and a few unfinished glasses and bottles sit here and there in booths and on the bar itself. It still smells like burgers and fries, made recently. The fire exit in the back won't do them much good -- neither of them are made of fire, so it won't budge.

Papyrus finally seems a little surprised, not to mention concerned.
]

Wowie... Grillby too? I didn't think anyone could-- I mean... perhaps he's visiting family in Hotland!

[Peggy was hesitant to go through the Ingress at first, and who could blame her? Even if the captains said it worked, even if just temporarily, she was skeptical. For a time, she kept herself busy, spending her free time with Bucky in a waiting vigil by Steve's cryounit.

But then the offer to see London came across her path -- London in 2015, no less. She didn't know Eggsy, or what she might actually find when she agreed to go through the Ingress with him, but she wasn't disappointed.]

I-- I don't even know where to begin. [It one sense, it was the like the city hadn't changed. She recognized many landmarks, maybe old buildings and historic places still there. But then there were the cars, all the modern things she had learned about in her time on the Moira, businesses she had never even heard of-- It was breathtaking and overwhelming all at once.]
keelahselai: (these goddamn human icons)

[personal profile] keelahselai 2016-05-05 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Tali was mostly over the spectacle that was her bizarre-looking holographic skin, the disconnect of feeling her normal hands but looking at five crowded little fingers. She still caught herself staring on occasion. She'd catch sight of herself in shop mirrors, double take, stop in the street and find herself being yelled at by whichever passerby walked into her.

But that was all they yelled at her for; in every other way she looked mostly like everybody else. She wasn't a quarian vagrant - she was...a human. A normal human in sunglasses, a thin sweater and leggings. Normal - mostly. She was unaware of her gait looking a little odd, and the languages around her were mostly almost nothing she'd ever heard before - languages that sounded like Niko's, like English...but she didn't even understand any of them. Her hurried 'excuse me's were met with split-second strange looks, although no one questioned the alien language. It seemed to not sound alien enough to stand out.

Looks like Niko's going to have to play translator.

"Ahh, right." She snapped out of staring at the giant metal framework above them and back to Niko. "Wait, you don't need to...pull money? What?"

First snag: the space communist doesn't know what an atm and paper money are and has never actually had to use currency in her life.

Papyrus didn't seem too pleased by their surroundings either -- the beach was neat, and he was tempted to walk along it, but the lava field and overall ashy quality of the air reminded him too strongly of Hotland. Still, this was where Starflight hailed from, and he wanted to be agreeable.

"What? But we just got here--oof!" Papyrus went along as he was pushed, hurrying toward the trees and glancing back at the dragon in confusion. "Are you all right?"

[Papyrus had no qualms at all about being chosen for another adventure with Sideswipe, and he jumped right into the portal when the robot did.

He wasn't sure what he was expecting of a cool robot's world -- maybe a clockwork planet, or some sort of all-metal surface rumbling and buzzing with machinery -- but the scrapheap catches him completely off guard.

[He hadn't planned on going through the Ingress, because returning home, when it was only temporary...that would hurt. Like how his brother had tried to return him to the cage, it would only be freedom until the cage the Moira was pulled them back. No, it wasn't worth it.

This on the other hand, is immediately and totally worth it]

Whoa, are we in the air? Is this ship flying?! [AWESOME. He doesn't even mind the crew giving him and Kain weird looks, he all but bounces over to the edge (though he's careful to not fall straight off) so he can look around] Aaaaaaah this is so cool! Look how high we are! Agito, look!

Amisses-Re (outside)

They have no desire to return home temporarily. There's no point. It's too much like the cage, and the taste of freedom they had before.

The world on the other hand is definitely curious and worth exploring. For awhile, all the teen does is sit somewhere where he can look at the sky. "It's not the same...but it's still nice to see," the light comments, not minding if someone nearby hears. He's talking to Agito, but he's more than happy to talk to others too. "The wind feels the same. But maybe it's because we hadn't had enough time to really learn what it was like? Ikki-kun would know better."

Amisses-Re (inside)

All this machinery and empty area makes for a great obstacle course. He's not going to venture too far in, because getting stuck somewhere or lost and dying because of it would be stupid.

But there's definitely AT motors echoing as the short blue-haired teen zips around at ridiculous speed. Get him in a straight hall and he'd probably outrun a normal car. But that's boring, so he is taking all the winding ways, and occasionally riding along the walls to find new shortcuts and just sort of pushing himself while exploring everywhere. Agito liked exploring. It was sort of something for himself, that he hadn't inherited from Akito. And it made the other in his head laugh with glee at his tricks.

He's not a show-off normally. Not really. But today, he might be showing off just a bit. Gravity has no say in this rollerblade show.

Wildcard

Whether it's Akito or Agito, it's not hard to run into them around the place. And while someone might have trouble getting Agito to do anything, Akito was more than happy to play travel companion. New worlds were fun!

"In that case..." Liquid started, sounding all kinds of interested, but he trailed off. No, no, he was joking. As much as he was always itching for a fight, starting some kind of all-out battle here wasn't exactly the best idea when he just wanted to go eat junk food and maybe see some sights. And swipe some things, if necessary. It was a bit odd thinking that this was America, but perhaps one where he'd never held a revolution to demand things from the government. Wild.

He watched Niko's back for him while he went to the ATM, just in case. Sure, he seemed like he could handle himself, but no reason not to assist a little. And punch someone if he had to.

"Well, that's... convenient." Robbing a convenience store didn't sound like the most lucrative business anyway, as sure as he was that they could pull it off. Liquid took the money and only looked at it momentarily before smoothly transferring it to an inner pocket of his coat. It resembled US currency, but was also very different, and he did want to take a better look. He knew better than to start waving money around, though, especially in a place like this.

"So. Where to first? I certainly wouldn't say no to something to eat."

Seems like there's quite a lot of people from Earth onboard. I'm from Mindoir, so I've barely seen the homeworld; just some Alliance training grounds in Brazil and our base in Vancouver.

Yeah, it's Los Angeles.

[ Home. Or...her newer home. She's spent much of her post-graduate life here and all of her time as a vampire on these streets. They're far enough from downtown that she isn't immediately assailed with terrible memories or the familiar scents of the people she has preyed upon for her nightly meals, and it only makes her smile more genuine. She has a chance, even fleeting, to be normal again. To be human again.

She needs to find out the date. How much time does she have to potentially fix everything? Plans spin in her head as she ducks away briefly to a vendor to look at the date. It's two days prior to when she turns into a vampire...and the Ingress might pull her back in a few hours. She'll need to keep trying to come back.

But to Danny, she turns back to him, light still in her eyes and she's actually happy for once. Not wary, not paranoid. ]

Have you ever been to the states? I could take you to Hollywood. It'll look nice around sunset. There's some places to eat around there, too-- But the sights are amazing.

[ She doesn't care what they do. Anything to give her some normalcy. ]
