[closed] for great science! (or medicine)
Who: Ed Elric & Meh Yewll
When: later part of the month.
Where: Med Bay & Labs
What: prosthetics and automail fun times!
Warnings: talk of missing limbs?
[ Just as promised, not too long after their chat, Edward shows up in the medical labs. He spends plenty of time down here during work hours, too, but this is for a different sort of project. He's been gathering more information about the different types of people here, where they're from, and the technology found in this place. He gathers his notebook from his work station before finally setting out to look for Meh. ]
Hey! I'm a little late, sorry!
[ He grins, despite himself. ] I was trying to find a good way to show you my automail, but I think I'm just gonna have to find one of those gowns in the Med Bay. It's pretty cool stuff, though. I don't know as much as my mechanic would but you should be able to get a good idea just looking at it. It was repaired not too long ago, too, so hopefully there isn't too much surface damage.
[ He's punched a lot of things in his time, okay, sometimes the metal gets scuffed. ]

[She gestures him over.]
It's fine. No emergency or then you'd be hearing a piece from me.
So, show me this "automail" stuff.
[Anything that could help.]

It's probably a little less complex than that stuff. Those look great. [ He shrugs off his jacket, though, and sets it aside, only to remove his shirt after, revealing his right arm, metal up to the shoulder where it bolts in, heavy scarring around the attachments. Years of adjustments evident in the make. ]
Sorry, just easier to see it this way. [ But he flexes his fingers before holding his arm out. ] Go ahead, don't know what you want to know but you're not gonna hurt it.

[She gets up close, using the scanner to try and see how this all is moving.]
This should give me a pretty good idea of what's happening in here. Move your fingers.
[It's fascinating, because she can't tell how the connections let him manipulate it so nimbly.]

[ He doesn't seem alarmed so much as curious and fascinated. But all the same he keeps his arm out and moves his fingers as she instructs. The mechanism inside is an intricate system of motors and levers, wires and attachments all powered by tiny pulses of electricity.
The power, however, comes up from the joint at his shoulder, where it connects to a socket, attached to his nervous system. ]
I know some of these panels come off, too, if you want to look at them. Just be careful, though, my mechanic's not here, and I don't exactly want to go around with one arm! [ He laughs a little, because he trusts Meh to do a good job either way. ] My leg's basically the same way. This stuff's a little lighter, so it doesn't give me frost bite in cold weather.
