Pie for everyone

Who: Toriel & you!
When: April 2nd
Where: Mess Hall
What: Toriel announces on the network she's made Snail Pie. Clearly people should come and get some.
Warnings: Snail pie, monsters, shenanigans.

True to her word, Toriel has taken over a table in the mess hall to offer people some of her favorite type of pie.

A several paper plates are laid out along with borrowed utensils. On the table sits a uncovered snail pie. The pie itself smells savory and fresh. A tempting offer for any curious about what it could taste like. Newbies and oldies alike are welcome to approach the table.

Next to it is a covered dish. A firm 'Do not touch!' note settled atop it. Anyone who touches it will get a firm reprimand from the monster seated at the table.

Toriel herself is settled back in a chair, drinking some tea. Anyone who approaches will earn a friendly smile and greeting from the 6'9 boss monster.

"Ah, hello! Would you like a slice of pie, dear?"

The girl smiles up at the monster as Toriel busies herself with the pie, still a little awed with the fur and size. Even if the fur was white, she still found it impressive. No one had ever taught her how rude it was to gawk at people, even if the reasons were finding the person cool or interesting.

"Thanks," she says as she takes the plate, disregarding that they'd in a room full of chairs and plopping directly on the ground. She balances the plate on her knees, breaking off a hunk with the fork and cramming it into her mouth. It's apparent her knowledge of basic manners never extending to that to be used at a table. She hums as she chews, eyes closing for a moment in bliss. It's a different sort of taste then she's used to, but nothing so bad as expired canned goods or any of the questionable food choices from home. Better than lizard, at any rate. She opens her eyes and grins up at Toriel as she swallows. "It's good!"

She hums out something that might be a muffled 'welcome', content to keep stuffing her face as quickly as possible. Even the last month here wasn't long enough to start breaking the worst of her habits. She still half believed someone would attack or something would happen long before she could calmly finished a meal.

She shrugs at the question, used to having to take one over the other when it came to food and drink. "I guess." She looks toward the kitchens, standing carefully. She still clutches the plate as she starts to walk over.

She pauses, resisting the urge to shrug off the touch. She can’t help the cringe, the little flinch. There’s some part of her that can’t get used to having all these strangers on her, treating her in the familiar way her crew had. It’s the kind of weird she thinks she’ll have to get used to here; everyone seems to have that kind of reaction to her. It must be an age thing. Even at home, older runners that she saw from the car window had that sort of awe at how young she was. But for now, she still found the casualness strange.

“Are ya gonna be mad if say no?” Allison hadn’t seemed too pleased when the girl kept insisting that someone else check every drink brought out. She’d rather fetch things herself. She was still afraid that someone here would try to drug her, slip her something worse. But she doesn’t want to be offensive either.

She stands again, looking around a moment before setting her plate on the table. She keeps her back turned to Toriel, hesitating on what to say. "Some other kids would probably like that a lot."

She means it kindly. Surely other children on this ship would enjoy the motherly treatment. Maybe the clumsy girl she'd met just that day, maybe the hesitant child she'd met when she first arrived. Other kids liked coddling. She did too, sometimes, but from different people. She wasn't sure there was a kind way to explain she simply didn't trust Toriel enough to relax into her doting ways.

"I don't like anyone touchin' stuff I eat, ya know?"

She hums, her form of agreeing. "Way to stay alive, more like it," she mutters before disappearing into the kitchen. She's back quick enough, a glass of water in hand. She has a preference for the sweeter drinks Allison makes, but there's something still awing about the clean, crisp water they have in high supply here.

She sits back down on the ground, taking back her plate and setting the glass beside her. She glances up at Toriel as she arranges everything. "You seem to like kids." It's an invitation to talk, the question of why lingering unsaid.

"Hmmm." She stares at Toriel as she eats, making a face that might come across as thoughtful if she wasn't wolfing down her food like some half starved animal. She pauses to come up for air, taking a long drink and deciding to follow up the conversation. "Do run an orphanage or somethin'? Ya kinda remind me of the lady that ran one back home, likin' kids so much. Ain't never seen anyone else get that attached to 'em."

"Ya just take in any kid who comes wanderin' by?" There's a little alarm in those words. She'd had a bad habit of roaming alone back home and if any runner had found that reason to take her to their crew, it would have terrified her. Logically, it wouldn't have happened; any runner worth their salt knew who she was and who she belonged to, but the thought is still enough to have her staring at the woman bug eyed.

"Fall?" It does ease her a little that the woman's promises it wasn't against their will. She should probably feel bad about the mental accusation against Toriel, but it's not her nature to be apologizing to people she barely knows without better reason. "Okay, I just- I don't like hearin' about people gettin' kidnapped to places. Seen enough of it."
