Open;
Who: David 8 and everyone
When: October 17th
Where: The Moira
What: Anything to do with the event
Warnings: None yet; will update if needed
[He’d thought the mask was Egyptian in origin, but quickly realized better. There were minute differences, and knowing where he was, the possibility that it was from Earth wasn’t as likely as it once would have been.
David hadn’t tried it on, but he did carry it with him for a bit as he walked down hallway after hallway.
He was memorizing the ship, as was his want to do, so that he’d know everything he could possibly know if the time came that he would need to know it.]
Locations: Mess hall. Nomo Deck. Moro Deck. Outside the Ingress Room.
[ooc: this is a catchall for anything that happens during the event. if anyone wants starters, just let me know, and feel free to come across david at any of those locations. this is open to new and old cr and any of the masks. david has the first mask which means he can read minds or see memories.]

[ At first he's confused, the initial words prompting him to turn around, glancing back to where he'd come from. He tried to find what was so strange that had caught the man's attention. But it was the last remark, the one that came at the tail end, that had him whipping back to look at him again.
He was more cautious now. Guarded. What flashes was he talking about, what memory? He'd been thinking about New York just then, the battle-- but that couldn't possibly be what he was asking about. ]
Sorry, but I don't know what you mean. Memory?

[He's not quite certain of all that he saw, but he's actively trying to process it.]
Are you human? Or a variation of?
[David is only asks because he assumes that it is Bruce that has the ability and that he's accidentally sharing his history with David, not the other way around.]
And yes, that is what I'm asking about. The Battle in New York.
[Because as impossible as it may sound, he just heard what Bruce was thinking.]

[ With something else added in, but that he obviously wasn't going to tell a complete stranger. Not just that, but someone who was talking about things that he shouldn't even know about. ]
How do you know that?
[ Bruce wasn't hostile - he was trying not to be, at least. But it was a little difficult to hold back when he heard that last remark. He was clearly defensive, though, far more than just a few moments ago. ]
How are you doing that? Are you reading my mind? [ Said in a tone that made it clear that was very much not alright. ]

[David stands, turned slightly away from Bruce. His expression is blank, purposefully so, to show that he's taking a moment to process everything.]
I've never possessed such an ability, and was assuming that reading your mind was something that you were projecting into my own. If you aren't doing it, I don't know how I could be.
[That wasn't something the Weyland Corporation had programmed to be able to do. He doesn't even believe it's something programmable, so he's a bit stumped, and one hundred percent interested.]
Can you see into my own? What do you see?

[ And he's definitely not happy about it either. It shows on his face right now too, in the suspicious look he throws at David, the smile and tentative niceness from before all but gone. Maybe this man isn't doing it on purpose, he's willing to accept that, but that still doesn't change the fact that he just saw glimpses of that battle by reading Bruce's mind. What if he sees one of his transformations, or even gets Bruce's own view from the Hulk's eyes?
He realizes a little belatedly that his mind has actually drifted to those thoughts, and he steers it away from them abruptly, focusing on some minor detail, easier to keep under control. The color or the man's eyes, the surprisingly minute changes in his expression, how his hair is so neatly combed. ]
And I can't see into yours, no. Thankfully. [ His eyebrows knit tighter together. ] Have you noticed anything strange as of late, out of the ordinary? Anything that... I don't know, would've given you this ability.

He couldn't discredit the notion that it's a flux, a short-lived development, so he presses. David pushes, wants to see more, see anything.]
I have not. Other than where we are being strange. This ship, its technology.
[A pause.]
I'm not certain this isn't just something that can happen here all the time.
no subject
I guess that's true, yes.
[ Even to him. The helicarrier had some impressive technology, Tony's own creations and labs too, but it was still very much different from what they have here. Not to mention that space travel of this level is still a little far away. ]
I can only hope that's not the case, though. [ Even if he had nothing he wanted to hide, he still values his privacy - whatever of it he can still have anyway. ] You'd think they'd mention that in the contracts they had us sign.

[He believed that these captains, human in appearance though that might not be the case, would still have similar motivations to humans. With that came the notion that they would only tell their crew exactly what they wanted to know.]
I will refrain, if that's what would make you more comfortable, from using this new ability of mine, sir?
no subject
[ Simply because he's learned not to trust people, nor their seemingly good intentions. Ending up here without even knowing how didn't really put the crew running this ship in a good light, even less so when the memories of signing a contract are so muddled. But they are on a ship in the middle of space, so he's keeping to himself as always, since he'd much rather not get thrown out through one of the airlocks. ]
That would make me more comfortable, actually, yes. Thanks. [ Doesn't really erase the fact that this man's seen a little of it already, but it's better than nothing. ] I'm Bruce, by the way. In case my mind didn't give that away already. [ He smiles apprehensively still, reaching a hand out. ]

[He tilts his head and extends his hand. David keeps the grip firm but polite, shaking Bruce's hand in greeting.]
As long as it's within my control, I won't use this new ability.
[David releases Bruce's hand, puckering his mouth, showing that he's considering something.]
However, I would be most interested in learning more about what I did see, sir. Perhaps you could explain it to me more fully.

[ Of course he can't know if the man is being honest about that or not, but the words do offer him some slight relief. He tries to fight the urge to just put distance between himself and this man for the moment, instead nodding at what he asks from him next. ]
Sure, I can tell you about it. [ Some of it, anyway. ] Let's take a seat?
