"Arguments on their nature are refuted by those who return to shore, wide-eyed with tales of their savagery."

"I don't see how it will really help any of us get back to where we came from."

As he turns away from the display, he casts a glance aside at Natasha. "Changing the subject, but do you see how any of what we've been told is meant to help us get back to where we came from?" Obi-Wan's curious of her opinion and wonders how much she's learned since their last meeting.
no subject
"No, I don't." There's a moment of hesitation before she goes on. "And it seems that at least from my own world, most of us seem to be connected to each other in a big way."

"I've heard similar already," he agrees. "I came with my own companion — my friend — and while we're familiar, he's slightly younger than I remember him being." Not by much, but the gap makes Obi-Wan wonder at its significance.
"Have you experienced anything like that yet?"
no subject
Just all the most important parts of their relationship, but really Natasha is fine. Bruce left, anyway, so it's not like they have anything back home for her to miss. For her, it's already over and for him, it never happened, so they're even. It's fine.
"Though several of us seem to be from around the same time. I don't think anyone is ahead of me."
no subject
He nods. "Perhaps for the best. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to face a future that's as of yet unlived." Of course, he'll be able to experience that soon enough, though he can't possibly know that now.
"Were you assigned a job?" A change of subject can't hurt.
no subject
"Personal defense specialist. Hand-to-hand." She smiles at him. The way she's toned her body, she knows it hides a lot of her fighting ability. It's not that she's not in shape, but she's hardly got bulging muscles, either. "What about you?"
no subject
In reality, Obi-Wan speaks more than a few languages. And he's just as apt to fulfill the role of personal defense specialist, hand-to-hand or otherwise. Had they assigned him piloting duties, he would have performed them admirably (and likely with fewer incidents than most of the current staff), and engineering certainly could have benefited from his decent, but unpracticed technical skills. A natural leader, a strategist, and possessing a strong moral compass, there isn't much he can't do.
And yet language instructor suits him just fine. It's exactly the low-key commitment Kenobi prefers to make, particularly in light of the past several years at war.
"Will you be teaching a class? Or are your appointments one-on-one?"
no subject
"Do you need some lessons?"
no subject
"But I appreciate the offer. I'm certain you'll have plenty of interested parties." Just not Kenobi at this particular juncture.
