There's best and there's best. And there's always a cost. Brains tend to function at a level they can deal with without crumbling under the pressure, right? So pushing it further sounds like a recipe for disaster, burnout, or... [He makes a gesture either side of his head, and makes a noise like a balloon popping. Then he shrugs.]
That and if this mineral enhances brain function to that kind of extent, then whatever creature it's inside of can't possibly be as unintelligent as this place [he twirls a finger in a quick gesture at the museum around them] is claiming. Not good at all.

[He waves a hand, excusing the topic. Victor doesn't expect this man to understand that it takes sacrifice and experimentation to learn more about the body and mind. Limits have to be tested and there needs to be people willing to do those tests.]
Ah, now that's interesting. It makes sense that they'd claim they are unintelligent, because most assume that unintelligent creatures are less than, expendable. It takes the guilt away and makes it easier to get others to hunt and kill them this way.

[Flynn points an approving finger. And then retracts it, because while that's exactly what he was thinking, when this man says it it somehow sounds a little more... personal. He gives him a more appraising look.]
And that's a problem. That's a bad thing. Right?

[Victor shrugs, it wasn't important since neither of them were being forced to choose a side in this.]
Does it matter what I think? We aren't hunting them and we can't save them.

[He makes a brief effort to consider another angle, but the best he can come up with is some people make a living from this and that is nowhere near a good enough excuse to go around killing people. And yes, anything that can think for itself is people. Some of his favourites have been pretty far from human.]
Who's to say we can't save them?
[There's a dangerously thoughtful look on his face.]
