[This pause, this gap in the conversation might be a good spot to introduce himself, but Light simply move onto the next display.]
I've been thinking, this gas product must be in extremely high demand in order to warrant bothering with this planet at all. But I haven't heard a single thing about population impact studies. I wonder if they intend to hunt these beasts into extinction. I suppose the scarcity would also drive up prices.

[Deacon continues to watch the man. He doesn't think he's seen him yet open his eyes. Interesting.]
Or they're just short-sighted and greedy and don't give a shit one way or another so long as they get their money right now. That's always a possibility.

[Light traces his fingertips over the button to begin playing the audio description of the sign, but leaves it alone since they're still talking.] I wonder if someone will find these creatures to be worth saving before they're all destroyed. If the chemical is addictive, they ought to think of a way to either farm or synthesize it, should these animals be rare. [No, he doesn't open his eyes. There's no need for him to. He sees the world through sound and touch, through smells and vibration. A long time ago, this was not the case, but he is comfortable this way.]

[Having watched the man for a while, Deacon has come to what seems the obvious conclusion, but he wants to verify.]
So, I don't mean to pry, but I'm totally going to pry. Are you blind?

[Light turns to face the stranger directly. At least so far this one, nor anyone he's met, has gotten nervous in his presence. Or patronizing. He expects the questions, but sometimes people raise their voices or talk slowly, as if not having the use of his eyes means his ears or brain don't work correctly.]
Yes, I am blind. And you'll find this comforting to know, I've been assigned to become a transport pilot.
[Hilarious. Light's voice belies dry humor. But he's not joking.]

I'm guessing you weren't assigned to be our gunner or lookout, either.
[And, because of all the people he's talked to so far, there's a somewhat great chance he might have success here...]
I know it's cliche but, you don't happen to have a pair of shades, do you?
