SHIP LIFE
”Working together not only helps us move more quickly, it changes the nature of what we can undertake.”

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Crew members exposed to Exuo will notice that effects are slowly beginning to taper off. However, most will still continue to feel some agitation over the smallest things. Perhaps a visit to the UV beds will lighten that mood of yours.

MINI RECEPTION
Orders have been sent down to the kitchen to prepare something small but fulfilling for the entirety of the crew as a way to thank them for their hard work gathering supplies and returning to the Moira mostly unscathed. The mess hall has been decorated—kind of. There are small, tidy bows stuck to the backs of chairs and “party favors” spread out across the tables. These favors make a room smell sweet but are otherwise harmless. As a gift from Thán, he has provided the crew with a treat of sorts in addition to the foods the kitchen has prepared. All crew scheduled for morning shifts in the kitchen will have helped with these preparations. As a note, there is also a soft, unfamiliar melody coming from an old radio on one of the tables. The captains encourage everyone to relax, have fun, and get to know one another better.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration! Privileges for crew ranked Tiruncula** are as follows: (1) shift in kitchen and/or mess hall duties can be skipped each week without repercussions.

[Taking her hand, Jacky gave it a brisk shake and Elizabeth her foxy grin.]

A pleasure, Miss DeWitt! If you don't mind me asking, what did you do before winding up on this bark?

THAT'S OKAY 83

I don't mind at all-- I uh, traveled. A lot.

[Elizabeth pauses, replaying the sentence in her head.] Bark?

[Jacky grimaced slightly.]

Well, technically she's not a bark: a bark is a three-mast'd square sail, and as far as I can tell we've not neither masts nor sails, but she feels like a bark, if not a full ship-of-the-line.

A traveller! [She couldn't resist referencing the song that made her try for the Royal Navy.] Have you seen your Bombay Rat, your Cathay Cat, and your Kangaroo?

[Oh-- nautical slang. Jacky must have been a sailor, or some other type of seafaring person. But that's the first she's heard of that particular shanty. It makes her smile and laugh.]

Where's that from?

Oh, I use'ta hear it back when I lived under Blackfriar's Bridge, from the sailors what roamed the waterfront. Never heard it any place but London 'less I brought it there myself, but it holds a special fondness in my heart.

D'you have any songs like that? [Jacky is, as always, excited to hear new songs she might be able to add to her repertoire--and you can't get much newer than songs that haven't even been written yet!]

About traveling? [Jacky's enthusiasm is a little infectious, and Elizabeth does know quite a few songs-- not just from her time in Columbia, but from when she was Cohen's 'Songbird'. The first one that comes to mind is one she doesn't think she can get through without her voice breaking, but she rationalizes that Jacky wants something less dour anyway. Maybe something that didn't involve things she'd have to explain like 'planes'.]

Oh, how about this one-- it's one of my favorites:

[She clears her throat once.] 'Some boys take a beautiful girl, and hide her away from the rest of the world. I want to be the one to walk in the sun, oh girls they want to have fun. Oh girls, they want to have fun.'
intherigging: (laugh)

[Jacky's fingers itched to whip out her missing penny whistle to play along to the cheery ditty; as is, her feet started to tap.]

Oh, that's wonderful! You must sing me the rest at some point, when I've at least my Lady Gay to play along!

[Yes, Jacky's enthusiasm really is infectious. Elizabeth can't remember the last time she made someone so happy just by singing a silly carousel tune.]

I'd be happy to-- I know a few more, but they're not nearly as... upbeat, I guess. Perhaps you could teach me some of yours.

[Quickly reviewing her repertoire, Jacky considered and discarded most of her act before settling on one that wasn't quite so ribald.]

'Oh, I've been a wild rover for many's the year,
I've spent all me money on whiskey and beer!
But now I'm returning with gold in great store,
And I never will play the wild rover no more!

And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover,
No never no more!'

[Holding her nearly empty plate aloft, Jacky churned out a quick jig, her bare feet not nearly making as satisfying a sound as her shoes would've (but how was she to know that she was going to end up on a ship in space when all she'd been planning to do was take a quick tour around the Bay???), but they got the job done.

She whipped out a quick bow.]
I'd love to trade song for song! D'you play any instruments?

[personal profile] tearmeanewone 2015-10-23 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Definitely entertaining-- Elizabeth hasn't heard a pirate-song before, and she definitely likes this one, dance included. She claps as Jacky bows.] Bravo, bravo! Jack of all trades, I see-- singing and dancing.

[She shakes her head and shrugs a little.] Never picked one up, I liked listening to records more.
intherigging: (oh i see!)

[personal profile] intherigging 2015-10-23 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Jacky's not too sure what a record is, but she's no problem with 'listeners', especially one as enthusiastic as Elizabeth!]

Thank you, thank you; I do always try to put on a good show! Well, I'm currently without all my instruments save my fiddle, but if you'd ever like to learn, I'd be happy to teach you!
