( october intro log )

Who: Everyone
When: October 1st
Where: The mess hall, kitchen, and other locations
What: The crew
Warnings: None, but please label anything you do that needs a warning

SHIP LIFE
”Working together not only helps us move more quickly, it changes the nature of what we can undertake.”

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Crew members exposed to Exuo will notice that effects are slowly beginning to taper off. However, most will still continue to feel some agitation over the smallest things. Perhaps a visit to the UV beds will lighten that mood of yours.

MINI RECEPTION
Orders have been sent down to the kitchen to prepare something small but fulfilling for the entirety of the crew as a way to thank them for their hard work gathering supplies and returning to the Moira mostly unscathed. The mess hall has been decorated—kind of. There are small, tidy bows stuck to the backs of chairs and “party favors” spread out across the tables. These favors make a room smell sweet but are otherwise harmless. As a gift from Thán, he has provided the crew with a treat of sorts in addition to the foods the kitchen has prepared. All crew scheduled for morning shifts in the kitchen will have helped with these preparations. As a note, there is also a soft, unfamiliar melody coming from an old radio on one of the tables. The captains encourage everyone to relax, have fun, and get to know one another better.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration! Privileges for crew ranked Tiruncula** are as follows: (1) shift in kitchen and/or mess hall duties can be skipped each week without repercussions.

I promise you, Blondie. I will never be short on making an opinion known. [To punctuate the nickname she thumps him on the arm.]

[Even when her life was at risk- she often had to bank on her usefulness for her survival, and she was easily scared, but she had a chronic inability to remain quiet.]

So are you human or am I doing that "all of you people look alike" thing?

[Blondie, and he rather likes that nickname. He's as fond of his hair as a synthetic can possibly be of anything.]

Does it appear natural, then? This particular shade of blond was time consuming to obtain.

[He returns the thump on her arm, meticulous in his calculations of force so as to not hurt her.]

I am a synthetic and human in only appearance.

I'm not the best person to ask. I'm used to people having more hair colors than I've seen here, and I'm synthetic myself.

[Though that's interesting. She wonders how similar to a human he is. She's biological for the most part, made to adapt and interface, but otherwise as squishy as any other organic creature that's test tube grown. Was he grown or manufactured?]

[Or a combination?]

[It seemed like a lot of questions at once.] I'm Doc Yewll. [She should probably introduce herself before she started rattling things off.]

[David was all wires and hydraulic fluid. Which he'd discuss with her when she's ready. He's already quite enraptured by her, so it was a conversation he wouldn't be against having.]

A doctor, as well? What are your areas of focus?

[Intelligent beings, those that knew answers to questions he'd come up with on his own but hadn't been programmed with the responses to, those were the kinds of people he wanted to know.]

I am David 8. It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am.

Bioengineering. [Something that had come in very useful in her sordid past, but at least here it was a past where it didn't matter. She could continue making up for that in her own way.]

David "8". You have other models? Is that how that works?

[personal profile] not_too_close 2015-10-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Bioengineering. Perhaps that was a conversation they could have later.]

There are other models, yes, but I am the first of my line.

[And the only, he wants to say, but the Weyland Corporation didn't allow him access to those servers so he couldn't be sure.]

The first with emotional responses.

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-14 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
That must be difficult.

[Meh can turn off her emotions, but at the same time when her orderly mind is interfered with, they come back and hit her full force. She carries with her a lot of guilt even if she can stomach just as much questionable science.]

[She feels a little compassionate for him.]

Are they true responses or are you just good at emulating them? And are they comparable to human emotions or related specifically to your bodily functions instead of social behaviors?
not_too_close: (87)

[personal profile] not_too_close 2015-10-14 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They are pre-programmed emotions, as I do not truly feel them. I can respond accordingly and within the appropriate amount of time that is required of me.

[Though his curiosity is somewhat childlike and seems to be growing and evolving his behaviors, which is uncommon in a synthetic of his make. He is aware of it, but doesn't question it, merely seeks his answers in the way he chooses to.]

I can asses when another person is unhappy, frightened, and more, and decide the best course of action to take. [He doesn't always choose to do such, but that's neither here nor there.] They are real human emotions, they just aren't really mine.

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-16 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
That's unfortunate. [She says thoughtfully. It's an interesting case- Ark brains very intensely follow their protocols, experience severe and genuine disappointment when they can't complete their missions. How different from that is he?] Not that you can emulate them, but that you can't experience them. Even manufactured beings should have the ability to develop fondness and have a greater appreciation for their own survival, without having to fake it.

Or do you do something similar to that aside from you pre-programming?

[personal profile] not_too_close 2015-10-19 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[David hasn't entirely come to an understanding of what he is.

He is curious and doesn't want to die and experiences emotions that he doesn't quite grasp, that he's certain weren't programmed into him, but exploring that would require him to explore himself and he's not sure he wants to do that.]

I do not know. It's not possible for synthetics to truly feel. The humans wouldn't want that. They wouldn't give us the capability to do so.

It's been my humble experience that a good many humans need to get their heads out of their hypocritical asses. I'm synthetic and I have plenty of emotion. The only diabolical thing it's supplied me with is the ability to get annoyed by people that refused to take their medication as its prescribed. It's the lack of emotion that they need to be afraid of- and they are when it's one of them.

[Lev probably would have had a kinder, less bitter way of having said that. Or at the very least funnier. But Meh Yewll wasn't the woman her wife had been, even if they shared a lot of the same ideas.]
