SHIP LIFE
”Working together not only helps us move more quickly, it changes the nature of what we can undertake.”

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Crew members exposed to Exuo will notice that effects are slowly beginning to taper off. However, most will still continue to feel some agitation over the smallest things. Perhaps a visit to the UV beds will lighten that mood of yours.

MINI RECEPTION
Orders have been sent down to the kitchen to prepare something small but fulfilling for the entirety of the crew as a way to thank them for their hard work gathering supplies and returning to the Moira mostly unscathed. The mess hall has been decorated—kind of. There are small, tidy bows stuck to the backs of chairs and “party favors” spread out across the tables. These favors make a room smell sweet but are otherwise harmless. As a gift from Thán, he has provided the crew with a treat of sorts in addition to the foods the kitchen has prepared. All crew scheduled for morning shifts in the kitchen will have helped with these preparations. As a note, there is also a soft, unfamiliar melody coming from an old radio on one of the tables. The captains encourage everyone to relax, have fun, and get to know one another better.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration! Privileges for crew ranked Tiruncula** are as follows: (1) shift in kitchen and/or mess hall duties can be skipped each week without repercussions.

ltcolerrandboy: (I hope I didn't crash-land on anybody.)

"Where I'm from, that's the quick term for a medical emergency. It gets the medical staff on hand ready for a situation where they will have to work fast to save a life." He explained. He'd seen too many Code Blues in his time on Atlantis, either his own or members of his team.

He mentally noted that he'd need to be a bit more delicate with embarrassing topics with her. He could handle that. She seemed sweet and incredibly innocent enough that it wasn't something he'd easily forget.

"True. But it's not like I grew up planet-hopping. There was a first time experience for me when I stumbled into the Stargate Program. I didn't know it was possible then suddenly I was part of it. So I kind of get what it's like if this is something completely new to you."

"So, Miss Elizabeth, space travel isn't your thing, I take it? Do you have any kind of space program where you're from at all? Moon landings, satellites, anything like that?"

Elizabeth nodded as she took in the information. Seemed logical, a quick phrase to get everyone on the same page. "Yes, I suppose it would be counterproductive to bring people in here and then have to work to keep them alive if there was an alternative. Probably a lot cleaner in the receiving area, too," she said with a faint smirk.

Truth be told, Elizabeth wasn't too well-versed in romance, relationships, or the nuances of how people related to one another in those senses. What she did know came from books, and most of her emancipated life has consisted of learning how books don't necessarily emulate real life. But if she was ever called on to pick up a gun or pop someone in the face, John would learn quickly just how accurate a descriptor 'innocent' was. But for now, yes, that was the impression she was giving off by blushing at the thought of seeing the room fill up with naked occupants.

"Uh..." Elizabeth thought back. "The USSR had just put a dog in space...?"
ltcolerrandboy: (And by 'brisk' you mean 'far'?)

[personal profile] ltcolerrandboy 2015-10-07 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, it would be." He agreed with a hint of amused humour to his voice.

"Laika. That was like, in the 1950s or something. Huh." He looked at her with slightly renewed understanding. He didn't remember dimension-hopping being part of the history lesson, but at least that made a little more sense with her embarrassment to his comment about nudity. "You're from the 50s, then? We're not from two entirely different worlds, just... skewed timelines?"

"1957, from what I remember," and she knew she wasn't wrong. Rapture had been built partially to escape the escalating Cold War between the United States and the USSR-- she'd come across that when she'd been researching where she was headed, and the space race had been a major point of contention between the two countries.

Elizabeth smiles awkwardly. "Very skewed. If you've never heard of an underwater city named Rapture, or a flying city named Columbia, you're thankfully not from where I'm from."
ltcolerrandboy: (Smile)

He nodded. That sounded about right from his world, too.

"I'm from an underwater city that sometimes flies? I've flown it, actually. It's more of a city-ship. Atlantis. But no, never heard of Rapture or Columbia in that description before. Well, not actually from Atlantis, but that's where I'm currently... um. Living. Or was living. Now, I guess, I'm living on this ship." Yes, John. Could you seem more awkward if you tried? Probably not.

"That's actually pretty fascinating, though. Are you from either Rapture or Columbia?"

It's alright-- Elizabeth and John could at least be awkward together. She's far more interested in the name of the ship. "Atlantis-- sounds like an appropriate name if it was considered an amphibious ship. Guess the only thing that might make me nervous is whether or not the ship was going to mysteriously disappear."

Ha. Nerd jokes...

"Columbia," she says, crossing her legs and sitting a little more casually in front of John. "It was built to be part of the Union-- of the United States. Congress funded the project. But during the Boxer Rebellion, it fired on civilians in Beijing and the United States tried to recall it's 'flying battleship'. Columbia's leader, Comstock, refused, and announced Columbia was seceding from the union. The entire city disappeared, and really, what were a bunch of politicians going to do to stop a heavily armed, flying city when the country only had a handful of experimental at best planes that couldn't hope to to reach the stratosphere without the pilot passing out?"
ltcolerrandboy: (What other Sheppards do you know?)

[personal profile] ltcolerrandboy 2015-10-10 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
John smiled, immediately relaxing as he appreciated the nerd humour. He lazily shook his index finger to indicate a point when he began speaking again. "You joke, but that's actually more accurate than you might think. It actually is the Lost City of Atlantis. That's how we found it. The 'Lanteans built this incredible City-Ship. Long story short, they ended up packing up the whole city and just flying it off, leaving Earth behind because of a plague. They settled in the Pegasus Galaxy for a while, started a war, had to submerge the city to protect it, and gated back to Earth, leaving the city lost. That's where the legend came from. Ten-thousand years later, we found it sitting on the ocean floor of a planet with its shields holding back the water about to fail."

"The Boxer Rebellion, huh? Yeah, I don't remember anything about a flying city in the history books, but then again, they didn't mention Atlantis was a ship either, so I'm inclined not to rely on history books anymore." It was clear they were from two different universes, but it was still interesting. "Did they stay cut off from everyone?"

This was clearly the most amazing thing Elizabeth had heard since coming through the Ingress. Atlantis-- a space ship the size of a city? Of course it was possible by her estimation, Columbia existed, Rapture existed. Why couldn't Atlantis be a space ship? "That's... incredible," Elizabeth settled on 'incredible' only because she couldn't explain how elated she felt to return to stories instead of doors. After Columbia, she'd lost all of the wonder she'd felt when she'd first escaped. There was no joy in life, no matter how hard she tried to inject it into her days. Somehow, though, hearing parts of stories she'd grown up with (even if they weren't true in her timeline), made her warmer to how her stay on the Moira might go. "I guess even if our timelines don't match, it sounds like our legends do." And sometimes that was more important than sharing a language or a country-- sharing stories.

"...Yes, they did. Thank goodness there weren't any other incidents like that. Comstock switched his focus to finding someone to carry on his legacy. So that someday, Columbia would come out of the clouds and 'drown the world in flame' as he put it." She seems depressed about it for a moment, then she huffs a quiet laugh. "But daughters can be so rebellious, right?"
