( october intro log )

Who: Everyone
When: October 1st
Where: The mess hall, kitchen, and other locations
What: The crew
Warnings: None, but please label anything you do that needs a warning

SHIP LIFE
”Working together not only helps us move more quickly, it changes the nature of what we can undertake.”

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Crew members exposed to Exuo will notice that effects are slowly beginning to taper off. However, most will still continue to feel some agitation over the smallest things. Perhaps a visit to the UV beds will lighten that mood of yours.

MINI RECEPTION
Orders have been sent down to the kitchen to prepare something small but fulfilling for the entirety of the crew as a way to thank them for their hard work gathering supplies and returning to the Moira mostly unscathed. The mess hall has been decorated—kind of. There are small, tidy bows stuck to the backs of chairs and “party favors” spread out across the tables. These favors make a room smell sweet but are otherwise harmless. As a gift from Thán, he has provided the crew with a treat of sorts in addition to the foods the kitchen has prepared. All crew scheduled for morning shifts in the kitchen will have helped with these preparations. As a note, there is also a soft, unfamiliar melody coming from an old radio on one of the tables. The captains encourage everyone to relax, have fun, and get to know one another better.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration! Privileges for crew ranked Tiruncula** are as follows: (1) shift in kitchen and/or mess hall duties can be skipped each week without repercussions.

Nothing like showing up at a party you had no intention of going to or ever knew existed. [She lightly tosses the flower back to its place. Everything is posh and extravagant and the food is much higher quality than what's available in defiance most of the time.]

[The ship itself is about the tech you'd expect in most interstellar vessels. So that much is pretty workable.]

Are you used to this sort of trip, kid? Or are you pretty new. [He might not be as young as he looks. Who knows anymore. It's hard to tell how old an Indogene is, too.]
fight4theusers: ([comic] questioning)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-05 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Tron raises his eyebrows at "kid".] I haven't been called that in a very long time. [And even Flynn hadn't used that term often. Not since the old system, at least, and that was well over a thousand cycles ago.]

But I am new to... all of this, really. [It's true, the entire universe is new for him, not just the ship.] What about you? Do you travel like this, often?

I took a very long trip on a ship.

[It's strange, not knowing people who lived through the Pale Wars, the destruction.]

Our sun went supernova and our star system was destroyed. My people helped build Ark ships for all the species in it. We escaped for Earth.

It was a very long trip. And I became intimately familiar with the inner workings of some of the ships. But I doubt they're going to let me have quite so intense a conversation with this one.
fight4theusers: ([game] interested)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-06 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Tron has no idea of a "supernova", but he can guess from context. The rest of what she says is more interesting, in any case.]

It doesn't seem that our captains are terribly forthcoming with information, and large portions of these vessels are still locked down. [He processes what she's said... the turn of phrase catches his attention.] Conversation... you spoke with the ships themselves? Or were there programs running it?

Wouldn't those be the same thing? [It's half a snarky joke, but she still explains. As best she can, anyway.]

We were aboard ships called Arks, ones that had to traverse great distances while sustaining people in hibernation. So they had intelligences called "Ark Brains". [She doesn't refer to it as artificial, not now, not after her own worth has been called into question so many times.]

Indogenes are capable of interfacing and communicating with them. With a lot of preparation. [The Iraths that hijacked the Ark in Defiance were plagued by the keys they held, unable to hold them as an Indogenes could. The smallish woman could have a lot of ego when it came to what she was capable of- it wasn't as if she was any good at throwing punches aside from verbal ones.]

[She fixes a gaze on him, hexagonal pupils narrowing.] But if I could manage it, I wouldn't mine having the look around.
fight4theusers: ([1982] realization)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-06 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Tron leans forward, immediately more sharply focused on her. Of the people on this ship, she may be one of the few who might understand what he is.]

It must be a powerful program to run such a ship. If there is one here and capable of communication, it would indeed be interesting to speak to them.

[Her eyes draw his attention, similar to that of a Siren or other specific-function programs. His own widen slightly in response, circuits brightening unseen beneath his uniform.] Could she also be...?

I have been assigned communications technician here. Perhaps I can be of assistance with getting you access.

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-06 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
If you could, I would be interested.

[It would hurt. It always hurts. But knowing, at least the destination, that would be useful.]

If this is something like an Ark ship, it could be thousands of years before it reaches its destination. And no matter what a fuss we make I don't think they'd be willing to turn this car around.
fight4theusers: ([manip] what's that?)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I will see what I can do. Thus far my only contact has been with the communication equipment, but the technology is unfamiliar to me. Perhaps you might be able to do more with it.

[He moves to stand from the table, eager for action, something to actually do aboard this ship.] I can show you, if you'd like. Even if this ship has no destination at all, knowing that would be better than knowing nothing.

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-07 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also a little curious if there was a crew before. Did anyone ask?
fight4theusers: ([comic] questioning)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-08 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Seeing as they're not immediately leaving, Tron retakes his seat, folding his hands on the table in front of him.] Not that I've heard. If there were, it wasn't information that was revealed to us. From what I understand, only our four captains were aboard this ship before we all arrived.

[He recalls the memory of the first arrivals, the confusion, the way they were herded into the main hall without direction for a long while.] It seemed they were not prepared for such a large influx of crew at first, either.
imaginary_wife: (43)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-08 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Which of the captains is a superior to the others, or are they all equal rank?

[Which it's not unusual for units to have more than one C.O., but it is unusual if there's no one single person on board acting as commander- then again, much of this hasn't made sense in the slightest.]

We should ask them some questions. How long have they been on here, have they seen crews before, what the hell do they put in the water. You know. Average normal things you ask when one is the subject of an alien abduction and forced to become the busboy at a restaurant.

[She had to be flippant about it, it was her defense mechanism. It kept her from being exhausted and overwhelmed at the idea of being forced into work yet again.]

Then maybe we'll get some ideas of where to look. [She's never been good at talking information out of people- she's the mental muscle that solves the technical stuff. People of greater personable constitution than her can appeal to others. Or at least people that don't act like sharp mouthed jerks.]
fight4theusers: ([game] listening)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-09 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're all equal rank. At least, I haven't seen one talking over the others.

[Tron thinks back to their first hours on the ship, the questions thrown at the captains, the guarded answers given.] They seem to at least be willing to answer some questions. Others on the ship may have already asked some of what you want to know.

[He's not much the type for investigating and diplomacy, either. Taking action is more his style.]
imaginary_wife: (121)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-09 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Diplomacy she wasn't great at, but she could make up for it in scientific investigation. Maybe somewhere between them and someone who could make words without invoking defensive gut reactions there was information to act on, at least.]

All being equal rank is pretty strange, but maybe they have some sort of rank structure that's new to me. Hell, the flowers are, maybe they play a game of hot potato to decide our fates. Who's to say.

[But she is interested.]

So even if I don't try to tap in, think you could get me backstage to look at their set up big boy?
fight4theusers: ([comic] do you really mean that?)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-09 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
At least they don't seem to have any hostile intentions toward us, and they do try to provide us with what we need.

[He nods, still ready to proceed whenever she is.] Yes, I can show you at least the communications station I am assigned, whenever you'd like. [A pause, considering that new nickname.] And my name is Tron.

Doctor Yewll. Most people just call me "Doc". [Only one person called her by her first name and... well... he was probably dead (even if she sincerely hoped he weaseled his way out of that again.]

Are you the only Tron? Or are there others.

[She had already met David.]
fight4theusers: ([art] glowy hand)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-12 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Now there's a loaded question. Tron hesitates briefly... answering it would reveal completely what he is, but it seems she's already deduced as much.]

The only one here. [He pauses again, determining how best to answer without having to explain too much detail.] As far as I know, there is only one other of me, back in the original system where I was compiled. I was copied into a new system, and given an upgrade as well.

[He tugs one of his gloves off, discretely laying his hand on the table in front of her, showing the glowing blue circuit lines traced over his skin.] I haven't seen any other programs aboard the ship, as of yet. [His eyes meet hers again, studying the hexagonal shapes, so similar to that of a program... could she perhaps be from somewhere like his Grid?]

[Her own hexagonal eyes train on his hand, on the circuitry, and back to his face.] You're not an android, but a program? Still an AI, but how are they manifesting your body here?

[Hologram? Solid projection? Grown in a lab as she was? Or maybe she was unconscious.]
fight4theusers: ([manip] deep thoughts)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-13 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. [Tron folds his hands on the table, one glove still off.] Apparently whatever brought me here... this Ingress... took me as through through a portal directly from the Grid. My system. This is how I appear there. [He frowns slightly, brow furrowing.]

Flynn... ah, my friend, a User, he often spoke of digital transformation into physical space, though I was never quite sure what he meant. Perhaps this is something like it. He was able to exist on the Grid, so perhaps a program can exist in the User world, if properly transferred.

[Clu thought it possible too... he'd planned to bring them all out, using Flynn's disc... destroy the User world and build Perfection there... Tron quickly pushes those memories aside.]

Apparently it is possible, at least with whatever technology this ship is using.

[He focuses back on her, gaze quickly skimming over her strange skin, the patterns there.] But you... you are not a program? [He's not disappointed, really, only intrigued, wondering just what she is, since she seems to understand him.]
imaginary_wife: (37)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-14 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
I would love to know how that worked. It sounds like your friend was pretty advanced for a human... no offense. [Coming from a race where one was meant to function with the accuracy of a computer and an organized mind, one's race tended to develop a slight sense of superiority about their intelligence.]

Does it feel differently to be here than there?
fight4theusers: ([1982] unsure)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-14 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd created a portal to the Grid, though he never explained to us how it worked. Flynn is... unique, even for a User. [Tron smiles a bit fondly, thinking of his friend, before it fades. Had Flynn even managed to escape to the Portal, in the end? Had Tron's sacrifice saved him? He didn't even know...]

[He pushes those thoughts to low priority, focusing on the next question.]
Existing here? No, it doesn't feel too different. Obviously the world itself is strange, and there is not the ready supply of energy that I could find back in the system. But my body is the same, even if everything around me is not.

...you haven't really answered my question, though. You are not a program, correct? But you can communicate with a computer, with other programs. [He's just as curious about her as she is about him...]
imaginary_wife: (39)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-10-14 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Something in between. I was grown in a vat to both control machines, to study science, and originally as convenient fodder for a carnivorous race. [She sounds a touch bitter about the Omec- it doesn't matter her history, the Omec "harvests" were generational genocide, a horror that came regularly every 75 years. Being made by the Omec, even if they were also prey, was almost an insult.]

But everything in me is biological. It just also happens to give me the ability to interface with most complex computers.

[Some Indogene were distorted beyond recognition as bipedal beings in order to control a ship.]
fight4theusers: ([comic] now what?)

[personal profile] fight4theusers 2015-10-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tron can't stop the horrified expression from slipping across his face at the last mention. Being created to serve is one thing, he understands that, being a program. But being created only to die, to be consumed... that is another entirely.] It is good that you escaped that fate.

Hopefully we can find a way for you to have access to this ship's computer. Would you like to see the communications array now? Or plan for a later time?
