SHIP LIFE
”Working together not only helps us move more quickly, it changes the nature of what we can undertake.”

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

MERO DECKNOMO DECKMORO DECK

Crew members exposed to Exuo will notice that effects are slowly beginning to taper off. However, most will still continue to feel some agitation over the smallest things. Perhaps a visit to the UV beds will lighten that mood of yours.

MINI RECEPTION
Orders have been sent down to the kitchen to prepare something small but fulfilling for the entirety of the crew as a way to thank them for their hard work gathering supplies and returning to the Moira mostly unscathed. The mess hall has been decorated—kind of. There are small, tidy bows stuck to the backs of chairs and “party favors” spread out across the tables. These favors make a room smell sweet but are otherwise harmless. As a gift from Thán, he has provided the crew with a treat of sorts in addition to the foods the kitchen has prepared. All crew scheduled for morning shifts in the kitchen will have helped with these preparations. As a note, there is also a soft, unfamiliar melody coming from an old radio on one of the tables. The captains encourage everyone to relax, have fun, and get to know one another better.

Other areas of the ship are also open to exploration! Privileges for crew ranked Tiruncula** are as follows: (1) shift in kitchen and/or mess hall duties can be skipped each week without repercussions.

Wanda eventually finds herself drifting over to the radio. The music is nice, although she hasn't been able to place the melodies with any Earth culture she knows. It makes sense; why should she expect anything familiar here? She's lucky the food is recognizable and not some sort of weird space goo.

"It's a lovely song," she offers to break the silence. It feels a little awkward to her, but then again, this is far from a normal situation. Wanda's social equilibrium is still recovering.

She can pin the accent-- Russian, sounds like. Not that it means much to her, she just finds it comforting that not everything is confusing and foreign.

"It is, wish I knew it. It sounds like something you should know, but can't place. Or maybe that's just me," Elizabeth admits with a faint smile.

"It's not just you." Wanda returns the smile, then turns her gaze back to the radio. What an odd thing to find on a spaceship, almost as odd as finding marble on Mero Deck or those strange flowers - are they actually flowers or do they just look similar? - on the tables.

"At least the radio is familiar. A little old for here, though."

"That's what I was thinking," Elizabeth agrees with a nod. "I'm used to seeing radios all the time, but the last year I saw was 1959. And while I don't know much about space travel, I know that this is definitely not 1959."
seeingscarlet: (concern; what did you do)

Wanda turns, unable to fully hide her expression of disbelief. It's one thing to be told the Ingress pulls people in from all sorts of places and times and quite another to actually meet someone she would consider out of place.

"We do not have anything like this ship in 2015. Not on Earth. But this ship could be from anywhere." Asgard, from what she can tell, doesn't quite have something like the Moira, but she's seen flashes of large starships in Tony's memories. Someone out there could surely build a ship like this.

Yeah, Elizabeth had partially expected this. She gives the other woman an awkward smile and shrugs. It's Rapture all over again-- she's in a place and has no idea how she got there or what she's supposed to do. She doesn't fault the other woman for looking surprised, she'd do the same if she didn't have first-hand experience of moving around time periods.

"That's what I'm trying to wrap my head around. The fact that this could have been built by people from a planet I've never heard of. It's frustrating not to know, and to think that even if I had the answer it might not make sense to me." She's used to things like timeline travel, but not feeling 100% out of her depth. Something tells her she's about to experience that a lot.

"2015 though," Elizabeth nods, smiling brightly. "Nothing like this ship, but obviously you have all the necessities. Flying cars?" she teases. "Jet packs?"

Wanda offers a reassuring smile. "It is something you get used to, I think. Sooner or later we will learn more." Even now, Wanda can't explain how her powers work, just that they do, and how the Scepter did this to her is an even bigger mystery.

"2015 is nothing so exciting. I have heard there is a flying motorcycle...a Sky-Cycle, the agents call it. But I do not think I will be allowed to ride it when it's finished."

Oh the things a telepath can overhear in the mess hall.

"How come?" Elizabeth frowns. "It sounds like an amazing thing to ride. I used to dream about riding on sky rails-- like train tracks suspended in the air in the city I came from. People would use magnetized hooks to slide across them." She chuckles at the memory, a little sad. "...A Sky-Cycle sounds a lot safer though. Harder to lose your grip."

[personal profile] seeingscarlet 2015-10-04 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"It would be fun to ride, but I wouldn't need it." She wrinkles her nose and it's clear she's disappointed. Flying is cool, yes, but there's something about a flying bike that has an intrinsic appeal. "And I think I've forgotten how to ride a bike."

"Did you ever get to ride a sky rail? It must be nice, if you aren't afraid of heights." She is, of course, failing to understand just how high up Columbia is.

[personal profile] tearmeanewone 2015-10-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth can see that intrinsic appeal, and she can see that mild disappointment. "I think you could get it back. I've heard it's all muscle memory."

The question takes her aback for a moment, but she nods. "I did, a little bit. I wasn't about to let my partner carry me, that's for sure," she grins. "It's only a few stories up, usually. It's not too bad when you're already used to living on a flying city, up above the clouds."

[personal profile] seeingscarlet 2015-10-04 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe when I go back. If I found a bike here, I do not think the rest of the crew would appreciate dodging it." And that still wouldn't convince anyone at SHIELD to actually let her ride the darn thing if and when it's finished.

A city in the clouds and they don't have jetpacks? Terrible oversight, that. How can they make the city fly and not the people? She's trying to picture it, but all Wanda manages is a steampunk version of what she saw of Asgard in Thor's memories. "I have never been afraid of heights but I'm not sure if that sounds exciting or frightening." What if the city fell? It must have, if she's never heard of a place like that.

"The trick is to not look down, yes?"

"I've found that when it's the water you're swimming in, it's hard to be afraid of it and stay sane," Elizabeth says with a quiet chuckle. When she had arrived in Rapture, it had been a little unnerving to be completely surrounded by water. The fear that some leak would develop and she would drown was very serious, but she'd been able to reason that someone from Rapture would have similar fears if dropped in Columbia.

"But for everybody else, yes, I imagine the trick is to just pretend you're walking on a typical street. What about you? Where are you from?"

"That is true." And is very similar to Wanda's original perspective on her powers. It had been terrifying at first when she couldn't control the hex bolts, but fear only made it worse. Acceptance was the first step.

Would the same be true of Sokovia? Wanda is not in denial of what happened, she can't be, but she hasn't talked about her home at all since the battle. She opens her mouth, stops, tries again. What does one even say?

"Novi Grad was...beautiful," she finally gets out. "Mountains on the horizon, a river cutting through the city. It was not a peaceful place, but it was home."

Elizabeth wonders if she should assure the woman that she doesn't need to know, that if it's hard, it's not necessary to bring it up. But when she does, Elizabeth understands, and nods faintly.

"Columbia was beautiful. Sunsets and sunrises created the most beautiful golden oceans on the clouds every day." She shakes her head. "But it wasn't as beautiful on the inside. I can still appreciate it, though. In memory."

It's so far from anything Wanda can picture that she has to see it for herself. She catches that memory, and for a split second she can see Columbia as clearly as if she were standing at Elizabeth's side. It's beautiful -- and somewhat terrifying.

Her expression holds only sympathy when she lets the memory go. "I understand. It was still home." Wanda is still struggling to redefine 'home' after the battle; she belongs with the Avengers now but the place you live isn't necessarily 'home.'

"This is not so bad at least. It isn't home, but it could be much worse."

"It could be much worse," Elizabeth agrees with an easy laugh. She's been in much worse. No food, doctors who harmed instead of healed, a bed with no padding and a room with the worst occasional company.

"Though I still have to wonder why they brought us here. Why we've been contracted to work here."
