Synce their arrival, Avagi's residents have been plagued by minor system failures. Faulty taskbots and infested crawlspaces, supply shortages and the floods last month. For the most part, they've coped admirably, and quality of life aboard the station is substantially improved from what it was. But even as the damage in the lived-in space is scrubbed away, more dangerous poisons have been building underneath. On February 10, the groaning from the walls will escalate to a harsh scraping, audible station-wide. Then silence falls as the filtration systems die completely: leaving all vents to begin spewing thick, black smoke. |
System Failures | ||
(February 10-19) |
Acrid and hazardous, the cocktail of gases emerging from the vents are the result of three centuries' toxin storage spilling over. A shallow breath can cause a coughing fit, but individuals who draw in too much of the toxic air will find themselves becoming dizzy, passing out, or worse. While effects may vary based on individual biology, all beings who require breath will find their lungs burning and their vision blurred. An hour after the initial failure, the lighting goes out too. With it, all station power: to computers, doors, and any system not hooked up to its own supply.Investigation: Survival (Home Team): |
Travel (Away Team) | ||
(February 12-19) |
When Avagi's current population first got here, it was clear that others had inhabited the space before. Recent developments have even proven that these others—or, perhaps, their descendants—might still exist elsewhere on the station now. With the crystals that might repair your home missing, diplomacy is no longer an optional consideration. It's time to meet the neighbors, and hope they come in peace.Navigation: Survival: Discoveries: |

[Normally, he'd be all stammering and looking away. But this isn't normal. This is dangerous. This is life or death. And as much as his own lungs burn, he wasn't the one breathing in the tainted air through a shirt. He can suffer a few more yards.]
Get in there first! I'll go back for anyone else!
[Because, again, helmet and space-suitable armor.]

If less equipped.
She tries to remember what Nihlus said about getting people to listen to her. He wasn't much older than her, which helped. But he was a lot taller, maler, and more accustomed to being listened to being listened to. She stands up straight. ]
I'm on the Emergency Team. I need to go with you.

Then you need to get a suit! Something! You can't do this if you can't breathe.
[It's only logical -- Breathing is important for running around like this.]

There's an emergency cache on every deck. It's right over there.
[ She points, and then dashes over to where she and Nihlus had set up the supplies. She slides her fingertips along the edges of the panel until she finds the lock and pops it open. ]
First Aid, basic melee weapon, thermal blanket, potable water, fire extinguisher, [ she lists the items as she rummages through. ] Here! Oxygen tank.
[ She hands Shiro his helmet back and pulls the face mask over her mouth and nose. ]
no subject
[Just nods as she points things out. And only taking his helmet back when he's absolutely sure her mask is secure. Old habits die hard -- old habits like putting others before yourself.]
[Of course, once his helmet seal engages again, he's coughing and gasping, but hey. No one died.]
... okay. Okay. Just a second -- then we start escorting people.

[ She's practically vibrating with adrenaline. The feeling of actually being useful for once is good, except it's at the expense of everybody else's health and well-being. Which sucks.
So long as she keeps moving she won't think about it much. She focuses on planning a route, following the protocols they'd been drilling. ]
no subject
[He says it almost immediately. Because that's just Shiro. Even if he's not completely fine, he's going to make himself be. Other people's lives are at risk.]
[So he forcibly steadies himself. Lifts his head.]
Let's go.
no subject
Ok. So. We need to do an orderly sweep of the deck and get them to the safe room. Which is here, right next to the cache.
[ She punches in the code in the panel next to the door that starts the emergency procedure. Alarms go off on the deck and lights on the floor and walls point toward the safe room. ]
We'll go this way. I'll take the right hand side, you can take the left. Come on.
[ She starts off down the hall, heading for the first room on the right. ]
no subject
Got it.
[A flick of his hand, with purple light blossoming back into being. Good as a flashlight, for the time being.]
Keep in touch over the network if you need to.
no subject
That's pretty fuckin' useful, dude. I just got this.
[ She turns on her phone flashlight. ]
Better than nothing, right?
[ She darts down the hall, still wheezing a bit but the adrenaline keeps her going. Besides, what a little smog anyway, right? ]
