Arrival

For those who most recently passed through the portals of energy that brought them here on a one-way trip, Avagi may be rather disorienting, but some areas are quite lively, and there are plenty of places to explore. As they make their way into their new home, they'll encounter new acquintances and a few pitfalls. As a result of the mini-dinosaurs burrowing for new hidey-holes, there's a rash of structural instability in the station. The worst has been patched up, but watch out—venture into the wrong area and a panel could clock you on the head. Due to a minor programming glitch, some of the taskbots originally designed to transport messages or small deliveries have found themselves on the same route, competing for space. Is this the saddest game of bumper cars ever or what? The portals to Kaittos are on the verge of fading away completely, but while many are being cautious and planning to conserve the resources gathered there, a small buffet has been set up inside the bar. Come make yourself a plate, but remember, this bounty is limited.

[Cayde might look like a droid, but he certainly behaves more humanlike than anything. His brow plates shift as his eyes glance aside in a sort of awkward expression, and he brings up a hand to scratch the back of his hooded head.]

Er, well they used to. See, there was some kind of device called the Ingress that used to bring people in and open up ways to other worlds. The people that ran this place and had control of the Ingress couldn't guarantee reopening the way to send anyone back, all they did was collect data in hopes of finding the matching coordinates or something to be able to do so.

[He pauses to let that sink in, nodding after he exchanges a glance with his Ghost.]

Getting to that.

So, this here now? Is about...oh...three hundred years in the future from when the Ingress thingy last existed and was since sabotaged and exploded. Somehow it threw whoever of us was around forward and here in this place. I'll get into specifics of that if you want, but most of it's a big mess that I only caught the tail end of, myself.

Anyway, even though the Ingress was supposedly destroyed, somehow its energy is still active or something.

[It is... a strange tale, to say the least. She takes a moment to mull that over, debating whether she desires to get further in to it. She is of a mixed mind, knowing that the more she understands, the better it is, but there is still a disconnect from the situation.]

So, the general lesson of the story is, going home will not be as easy as apparently arriving is?

Yeeees. That's about the gist of it.

... so we are allowed to just go about as we will?

[A skeptical hint to her voice.]

Pretty much! Find a room that's not taken, make yourself comfortable. Lend a hand if you're able to, have a look around- you can do what you want so long as you don't kill anyone, of course. ...although if someone tries to kill you first then I'd say they're fair game.

[democratically]

[She prefers not to kill at all, although Padmé would defend herself if needed. It does beg another question though.]

Is that an issue here?

What, doing unto others what they- oh. Not that. Um. No, don't think so.

[He pauses, remembering his encounter with a certain Program in the ducts. Well, Padmé doesn't look like someone who would go skulking around ventilation systems.]

Most everyone here's been through enough that we've all been working together to make sure this station's fit to live in. But it never hurts to be careful.

[She had meant more violence in general, or anything specific, not an eye for an eye. It does earn a small blink from her. He does iterate further though, and Padmé nods.]

I am glad to hear that people are, but I will also take heed to your advice.

[deal_me_in]

Oh, well I appreciate you saying so.

[It seems a little thing to be said, but his eyes brighten as she says as much. Where's Zavala when you need him...to hear Important Things like this.]

Okay. Um. Anything else? Oh. You should probably get yourself set up with one of these ACE things- that's our comm system we managed to patch together. I don't carry spares but we do have some available.

[It is a response that earns consideration from Padmé, but the truth of the matter is that she knows little about him. It does though also earn a little smile. While she might not always take everyone's words at face value, she will always weight them and act accordingly.

There is a rueful little laugh.]

In all honestly, there are likely a million other things I should be asking.

[But it's all a bit much. As quick and sharp as she is, she is still only human.]

How do I go about that?

Well, yeah. That's true. Unfortunately we don't have a manual or a welcoming committee.

I suppose technically, you're her welcoming committee.

[Cayde shoots his Ghost a look before Padmé is given a shrug.]

I think I covered the basics. ...they probably could've been covered a little better, but there's no nice way to put, well... a lot of things.

-as for the ACE comms, I think we have 'em over by the Ingress memorial.

[His Ghost gives a nod in confirmation of that as he glances over.]

It's just down this way. Can't miss it. It's a big...metal-y...spiral looking thingy.

[Despite the situation, she finds a soft smile playing at her lips with the interaction between the two of them. They do bring up a good point though, and Padmé wonders. Perhaps it is too hard to have a committee to do such a thing?]

There is someone there handing them out?

Not really, no. We just got a box of them sitting there for whoever needs one.

[democratically]

[That's rather peculiar.]

Who replaces them?

[Or are there that many there?]

Eh, we got a tech team that patched a bunch of them together. Haven't seen any great influx of people all at once since we got here, so hopefully we'll have enough to go around for the time being.

[democratically]

Mm. That's is good at least.

[Padmé wouldn't desire others to be stuck in this strange position. Whatever it is and however it has happened, it has been without her consent or knowledge.]

[Cayde walks her over towards the small crate holding the band-shaped devices. He picks one up, turning to hold it out to her.]

Pretty simple to figure out, unless they decided to sneak in some more programs since I last checked, but for the most part they should be user-friendly. Once you make use of it, it'll be set to you and whatever name you put into it.

[Following a few steps behind, Padmé looks at the crate, then the device, before moving her hand to take one with a thanks. No stranger to different types of technology, she does regard it, before glancing up.]

So this will speak only with those who have one here? It can't be used to make contact with other forms of technology across the galaxy?

[The Exo nods.]

Yep. Our techs are good, but I don't think these things have that far a range. There's no guarantee we're even in any one particular galaxy or universe or time period either, so I have no idea what all is out there beyond the storm roiling outside. You'll see that outside of any viewport and window in this station. There's no going out in that, even if we had a ship.

And you can visit other planets?

[Thinking it through.]

What about those? Have they any technology that can?

Once the lingering powers that be hookup to a world, sure! I'm not really sure how often that would be though, even less so now that there's no technical doohickey to tune into a given planet.

Those... other planets? Not sure. I think it's a toss up. The latest place that's opened up was pretty lo-tech. Nice and peaceful though. Not used to that.

[Nice and peaceful. Padmé isn't exactly used to that either. Yes, Naboo had been stable growing up, and it wasn't until the invasion that something had really stirred across the planet. But the galaxy as a whole seems on the brink of war- likely will be at war with the clones now out in the open.]

Are they always inhabited?

[deal_me_in]

The ones I've been to have, but I haven't had as much opportunity as others. One of the worlds was supposedly a version of the one I came from, just not in near ruin. It was kind of mind-boggling. Not that I'd say it was without its own problems.

[democratically]

[Her mouth opened, before pausing, to try and work out what it was that he meant. A version of it?]

... do you mean time travel, or?

[... a clone? She's never heard of such a thing, mind. Then again, she hasn't heard of any of this either.]

Not really, no. Just like. I dunno, different. Didn't pan out like things did back home. Seems like there's more than one, too. I talk to other people around here saying they're from Earth, and things don't match up from their pasts or future to the things I know. It's...weird.
