two bros (and a girl) in a hot tub
Who: Hawke, Tony, and Nate.
When: A bit after arrival
Where: The public baths on the lab level
What: These three are losers
Warnings: Nudity. Swearing.
[Having friends who care about you is the worst!
That's how you end up in a situation where you're in a public alien bathroom with a communal tub and waiting for it to fill up while your two best friends seem to be debating internally if they ought to stay committed or nope out.
Hawke, on the other hand is pulling off her pants and doing her best not to stumble or look woozy in any way. That's what got her into this mess and if she collapsed, she might end up stuck in bed for a week.
She feels slightly bad about ditching Varric because he was worried about her. But her feelings of self-preservation and to avoid having to deal with deeper feelings outweigh any guilt she might feel. Unfortunately, Nate was one of those annoying people who cared about you and of course had to talk about that one time she nearly collapsed on her way to bed because he was an asshole like that.
Tony had been her buffer because he never showed how much he cared and she could skillfully use that to her advantage. Right now he just looked slightly put out which was barely noticeable because that was his default expression.]
You know. You both could just leave and let me be alone and relax with my thoughts.
[She kicks her pants to the floor leaving her only in her underwear and light t-shirt. Maybe she could make them uncomfortable enough so they left? Because they are men and men are babies.]

On the other hand, knowing Hawke, she'll somehow drown herself within ten minutes. She can barely walk in a straight line right now. ]
Tempting offer. [ No, you know what, the drowning would probably take less than ten minutes. He doesn't budge, despite his put-uponess. ] If you take that shirt off, I'm gonna be sleeping in the lab for a week.
no subject
Then again, if you sleep in the lab, Pepper will be lonely and need someone to take care of her. [She drops her hand to grab at the hem of her shirt in preparation to yank it over her head.]

[Nate averts his eyes slightly, though he's not as obviously bothered by imminent Hawke nudity as Tony. He's seen it before, and he can't picture Elena getting upset about him being near this particular woman naked.
Which is maybe a sign of hubris and he'll get his ass kicked later if she finds out, but eh. That's future Nate's problem.]
We're not gonna leave you here to soak and probably drown. The taskbots would bring your body back to our place and it'd be gross.
no subject
On the other hand, I could drown you myself right now and Nate probably wouldn't rat me out.
[ They're bros, right? Right? ]

[Then there's a pause, like a sudden chill taking over the room.
Nate doesn't have the heart for it. But she does. She killed Anders only a few weeks ago. A knife in the back like he was some sort of petty thief she'd encountered in Lowtown. Like he was nothing to her.
Her hands twitch and she lets go of the hem of her shirt and walks over to inspect the bathwater. At least it's warm, even if it's nothing fancy and it gives her a moment to recover.]
Thankfully, I'm feeling generous tonight and will try to remember to remind sensitive men about taking shirts off.

[Lies. He'd cave, and they all know it. So pathetic is he, unable to murder a friend.
He sighs and wanders over, reaching in to feel the water himself and then splash it at Hawke with his fingers. He is worried, and he knows she hates it, but it's not something that he can shake off after what happened. Not when he nearly lost someone else he cares about dearly.]
Also, we're not sensitive. We're callous dicks.
no subject
[ Tony trails behind Nate, eyeing the proceedings with attentiveness that's cleverly disguised as extreme boredom. It's going well. ]
... And the honesty.
[ He's certainly never been accused of being sensitive before. TAKE NOTE HAWKE. ]

[She asks with innocence so feigned that it's almost disgusting to look at. Then a splash of water courtesy of Nathan Drake causes her to break character. She drops down to sit at the edge of the pool and gives a good kick of water in his direction.
Such adult.
But it's happier than she remembers feeling in weeks. It's so familiar, like coming home on a cold rainy day. She glances down at the still healing bruises and cuts on her legs before she leans back to look at the boys.]
You're not really going to interrupt my bath and then make me wear a shirt during it, are you? There has to be laws against it.
no subject
Nate resists the urge to make sure she doesn't slide all the way under the water. That'd be going too far, and he knows the overprotectiveness is his thing to deal with after all that's happened. It's still there, though.]
Pretty sure it's the wild wild west out here. Unless there's some universal space law I don't know about. Besides, we all suck at following the law.

[ There's a considerable pause. ]
He's right, though. No rules. I'm enjoying the change of pace.
[ He pulls his boots off and lets them drop with a heavy thunk on the metal floor, before rolling his pant legs up and dropping down to the side of the tub, letting both feet dangle. Yeah, there's definitely something nostalgic about this, like returning to something intrinsically familiar even though everything else around it has changed. But at the same time... ]
Damn, I miss real hot tubs.

[Hawke seems very pleased with herself and pulls off her shirt. Or at least she tries to. The motion normally fluid is interrupted by a pain searing through her shoulder. A reminder of her fight with Orsino and Meredith. It seemed like so long ago and yet... was only two weeks ago.
She tries to play it cool and hopefully the boys will look away and be distracted by nudity because boys are stupid. Then once her shirt is discarded at the edge of the pool, she sinks in, settling her back against the side and her shoulder against Tony's legs.
This was definitely nostalgic.]
And attractive alien hostesses.

I miss tormenting Hawke with your driving.
[He can't be left out now. Following Tony's suit, he rolls his pants up and climbs to the edge of the tub on Hawke's other side, dropping his feet in to dangle with a plop.]
no subject
[She shoots back and splashes him a bit for good measure. It's hard to explain but... she's very happy, sitting here in between two people dangling their feet by her shoulder in a dank and slightly dark bathtub. It's comforting and she feels safe. Which she hasn't felt since the incident in Kirkwall. Her guard can finally come down a bit.]

[ Ah yes, this is..... friendship.
In a musty, public bathroom of questionable cleanliness, in water that's tepid at best, and yet... it'll do. If he thinks too long about the storm raging outside, it becomes clear how fortunate this stupid moment actually is. ]

[Yes, he automatically assumes all three have them get access to any space vehicle (extra spacey now, way more than on Kauto) Tony might create. They've been through a lot as a trio, they live together—hell, they're practically family, right?
It's a jokey thought in the privacy of his own mind, but even as he thinks it, something catches in his chest.]
Maybe include a custom-made barf bin for Hawke.
no subject
And I'll have you know, I'm very certain that I am getting acclimated to that sort of thing. Soon I'll be immune.
[She huffs a little. This is friendship. It's much like what she had at home but also different. Something special and irreplaceable in her heart even if she hates to talk about things like hearts because that's just ever so wrought. And yet there were years of her life where she remembered nothing.
She traces a scar on her knee in silence. It's not a new one but one she got as a kid falling off cliff while trying to scare Carver. It was a good story. Most of her physical scars were. But boy did she ever hate talking about the emotional ones. Still, it was time to lady up and tell the truth. She keeps her eyes on her knees.]
When I was in the cyro pod. I went home. For nearly two years. A very exciting two years, I'll tell you some time. Anyway, and it was like I never left. Like this place didn't exist.
no subject
Especially not now, when he's coming to terms with having things here that he doesn't want to lose. ]
What?
[ He sounds incredulous, like maybe this is one of Hawke's off-color jokes. But for all of her irreverence, he's pretty sure this isn't something Hawke would joke about. ]
no subject
[Nate spots the faint shift in her expression, the lack of meeting either of their eyes, but he doesn't have time time to think that it means anything until suddenly, it does.]
Bullshit. You were here the whole time. For weeks.
[Not years. It's not supposed to happen like that. It's suppose to be the three of them against whatever bullshit space throws at them next. They're not supposed to leave each other behind.]
no subject
[Hawke is deeply agitated by this whole situation, letting her frustration be obvious in a way that she doesn't usually let people see for fear of it being used to catch her off guard. She half raises herself out of the pool as if that makes her point stronger. There's a massive bruise on her shoulder that looks like a massive hand grabbed her. And the rest of her body is banged up and recovering from wounds that she could not have gotten in cyro.
Then her strength gives out and she collapses back in the pool.]
I remember everything that happened back home. It had to be real. It's...
You know, I'm not just making this up for funsies. I have much better pranks to play on you two.
no subject
Well, there will come a time when they cease to exist for each other, plain and simple.
He'd prefer to cling to denial. ]
How do you know it wasn't just - a dream? You were asleep for a while. Hardcore REM cycle.
no subject
He doesn't want to have been left behind again.]
It wouldn't be the first time any of us has experienced some crazy shit that wasn't even real.
no subject
Hawke stands up and grabs Tony's hand and presses it to her ribcage, right against a still healing wound that's only just started to heal. It's from a sword or something similar.
The rough action causes the scab to crack and blood to slowly drip down her side, mixing with the water droplets still on her flesh.]
Getting a stab wound in cyro seems pretty unlikely, don't you think? Sort of defeats the purpose.
no subject
Jesus.
[ He yanks his hand back - and reaches over for her shirt to wipe the smear of blood off with. Thanks. ]
Okay- okay, point taken.
[ It's a sound enough argument, even he can't argue. And he loves to argue. ]
no subject
What are they supposed to say to this?]
But you came back. You remembered us.
[He feels like a selfish prick for saying. Like they're the only ones who are important, not the people Hawke left behind during her time back home. But he figures they can look after themselves. They're the ones who'll get to keep Hawke in the end, after all.]
no subject
But not because I tried.
