Friends had told Dutch just about every joke in the book, but Dutch’s friends weren’t really the knock-knock joke sort. Add that to the fact that she was just disoriented enough to not be able to put two and two together without a little extra effort and Dutch didn’t see this punchline coming. She did smile a little in anticipation, though.

“Etch who?” As soon as the words left her mouth, it clicked. Her anticipatory smile broadened and she nodded. She knew what it sounded like, but she’d let him finish his joke. It was only the polite thing to do, after all.
