"There will be no prison which can hold our movement down."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar.

Yet, unlike most new crew arrivals, this one is in the middle of chaos.

Despite more recent events, the planet of Emiri is not as peaceful as it once was. Frederick Link is still missing, and the authorities of Emiri have yet to lift the interplanetary ban they have placed on all space crafts docked at the aerospace. The captains previous held a meeting asking crew for any and all information that might help them locate the Komai, a mysterious group determined to undermine Link'd Inc's work providing flourishing matches across the universe by causing random acts of violence and protest across the three main cities: Harashan, Avelle, and St. Murtel. These things have led to mass arrests as well as an unsettling atmosphere spreading across the planet, and since a previous broadcast, things are beginning to escalate.

A downward spiral of these events begins as soon as new arrivals start to leave the Ingress—an unmarked box arrives in the cargo bay addressed to the inhabitants of the Moira. As per his job, Niko Bellic is the one to discover this box and open it. For some, the contents may be particularly gruesome. Link’s body is inside, clothed in a simple white button-down and pants (no shoes), and it looks as if letters have begun to bleed through the material. Anyone with expert knowledge of torture may note that Link was, in fact, tortured for information, and those letters? The writing itself spells out the name St. Murtel.

The captains, having been alerted of this, make an attempt to contact those at Link’d Inc. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done.

☄ First: MISCOMMUNICATION
Somehow, whether intentional or not, the Komai have once again hacked public systems and networks to brand those of the Moira as the ones behind these terroristic acts. They still use their own name, but the images are different, focusing on familiar faces wearing the ship’s uniforms and traveling to the Aerospace to return to the Moira. Not only that, there are short recordings of Link’s final words that mention a very recognizable name: Captain Thán. The Komai have redirected the blame to the Moira and its crew for their own means, and in response, any and all crew who are captured by authorities will immediately be detained and shipped out to unknown locations. The Captains send a message via MID and request everyone return to the ship to prevent this from happening. Yet, not all messages will be delivered depending on how far away they are.

With everyone’s safety hanging in the balance, the Captains have decided to take things into their own hands and find a way to lift the block on the Moira so they can leave Emiri’s orbit and avoid further repercussions regardless of whether or not any one of the crew wants to stay.

☄ Second: DECOY & DISTRACT
After learning that Benjamin Link, son of recently deceased Frederick Link, knows how to unlock the ship so they can leave, the captains ask for volunteers to act as decoys on a mission to the Aerospace in Harashan. Their job is to distract guards and Emiri citizens, leaving the path clear for Benjamin to get to the computers. The captains reiterate that they are to use nonfatal methods as they don’t want a repeat of the events on Caducus Primary. Without his help, the ship won’t be able to leave, making this mission critical and extremely time sensitive.

☄ Third: RESCUE
During the mission, Benjamin informs the crew that the Komai aren’t incorrect in their claims that Link’d Inc uses unforgivable means to obtain information in order to make their matches perfect. The children the crew dreamed about are just two of many—the offspring of Emirian citizens who had gone missing. It has long been suspected that Link’d Inc was involved in their disappearances, but only recently has the Komai done anything to shed light on these gruesome rumors. Benjamin, after successfully unlocking the ship, disables the security systems in St. Murtel, which will allow the children a chance to escape. They’ll need assistance in getting out of St. Murtel and to a pre-designated area in Avelle where a group of Komai and Emirians will be waiting for them.

But be careful. If anyone is recognized as part of the crew, they will be placed under arrest for treason and possibly never heard from again.

☄ Fourth: BREAKING OUT
Now that the computer systems in Harashan’s Aerospace have been used to release the Moira, the entire crew are being called back via MID for an expedient exit from Emiri. Crew will be asked to assist other Moirans in getting back to the ship as quickly as possible via transporters or other small crafts as leaving is their only option at this point. In the escape, Emiri launches an attack on the Moira in an attempt to stop them. The ship’s previously unused defense systems activate, and those assigned to those positions are required to man their posts. Perhaps even those who don’t have the clearance are needed. Either way, it’s time to leave.

☄ Fifth: REFUGEES
Now that the ship has finally escaped Emiri’s orbit, the crew will notice a group of stragglers in the main hall. During the crew’s quick exit, about fifty Emirians have taken refuge aboard the Moira, and the captains have agreed to take them to the closest planet so they may start again or live a life free of Link’d Inc “rule”. The captains ask the crew to help get them clothes and food for their short stay, no longer than a day at most, and to occupy them as best they can. Tell jokes, sing songs, bring up the kittens so that everyone can attempt to wind down after this series of unfortunate events. Light entertainment won’t be provided, but on request, some crew members may do just that.

[ Bruce is admittedly glad it worked - it's weird enough he's nursing an ant back to health, it'd be even worse if his efforts didn't even yield any results. ]

Well, ants do have an impressive lifespan for an insect. Some worker ants can live for months or even years, and queen ants can even reach up to thirty. So they don't all necessarily die all the time.

[ Honestly, there's a good chance some of Scott's buddies will live longer than a hamster or even a dog would. So there's that. ]

Don't mention it. [ No seriously, don't mention it to anyone. He has a feeling he'll be mercilessly made fun of by Tony some people. ] Just make sure you find him somewhere nice to stay on the ship, and give him some time to recover. You... have some sort of colony with you? Or more than one, maybe?

"O...Kay?" That doesn't actually explain anything because she has no idea what that is, but apparently this is a touchy subject for the Cybertronian-not-robot and he's, like, fifty times her size so she'll just go with that.

Really? [ He perks up visibly, not only at the mention of prosthetics, but also that she even thought of him. ]

It's definitely up my alley, yes. Although I know of someone else who might be interested too. [ He's pretty sure Tony would be very upset if he didn't even mention something like this to him. ] What kind of prosthetic? For someone on the ship, I take it?
allyisun: (drink up)

[personal profile] allyisun 2016-02-10 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that explains Allison's problem, then. She has a hard enough time dealing with other adults as it is.

"That makes sense," she says. "I guess a person is a person no matter how small."

Great, now she's quoting Dr. Suess. Maybe Tex won't notice, maybe she's from somewhere without Dr. Suess. There's certainly people from a wide enough array of universes here.
hyperkinesia: (Thanks for asking nicely.)

I've been thinking about that. Figuring out the Ingress, that is. Someone mentioned it to me a while back, it might just be a good idea, to look into how the Ingress works. Even if we don't manage to revert the process and send everyone here back the way they came, we might be able to stop it from happening to more people to begin with. Or, at the very least, to control it better.

[ He wasn't yet sure what they could do with that control, but it would be better to at least have a handle on the whole process. If they could avoid certain problematic people, or children, for instance, or focus on people who had some kind of knowledge of space travel instead of those who didn't even know what a space ship was, he'd call that somewhat of a success.

Again, provided they would even manage to figure it out, let alone change any of it. ]

No. Just some friends. [ He didn't even have any family to begin with, not anymore, but that he kept to himself. And even among those friends he had one less desirable, but... overall, he couldn't complain. ] They're nice people, though. I wouldn't wish this place on them, but I'm glad not to be alone.

[ Here, home. Anywhere. ]

[Tali reaches the commotion...and has to jump back hurriedly to avoid splashback as a glassful of water goes right over the blonde human.

Before she can so much as think of some way of reacting that doesn't involve yelling or laughing...there's a flurry of movement and then a shrieking, squirming mass of bodies on the floor in front of her.

Whether it's the two stacked-up children body slamming a grown man into the ground, the impressive shrieking and falling over, they're killing me or some combination of all three, Tali is immediately galvanised into action! ...In this case, action equals nearly doubling over with laughter for a full ten seconds.

Then she steps forward and tries to untangle the mess of limbs by grabbing one kid by the scruff of the neck and pulling him off, but she's laughing so much it takes her a long, long moment to drag the kid anywhere.]

"I probably shouldn't," Allison says, accepting the cigarette and taking a deep drag. She doesn't cough this time, blowing out a cloud of blue smoke as she hands the cigarette back. She can worry about lung cancer and addictions some other time, for now she wants some more of that warm buzz.

"Thanks." For the cigarette, for listening, for keeping her company now. It's nice. Maya's nice.
whatawaste: (Incredulous)

[personal profile] whatawaste 2016-02-10 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Maya would have laughed, if Allison ever called her nice. She'd never really considered herself all that kind. She was just doing what everyone else in the galaxy had to do; look out for number one.

It was only very recently that she'd begun to unconsciously consider Yuri number one, instead of herself.

She didn't know what that was about.

Taking back her cigarette, she took a slow drag, letting out little, perfectly formed smoke rings. "So what are we supposed to do here?"

...The mushi. I attract them. If I stay here too long, they'll... they're going to be everywhere.

[ He's not even being that specific there. He can get a whole lot worse when it comes to science talk, so just be thankful he kept it simple. ]

The whole point is I might not know.

[ All of it is too much of an uncertainty, and the very laws of physics here likely differ from the ones in his world, even if only by little. But he gets that Peter wants to move away from the subject, so he goes along with it. ]

No, not those kinds of suits either. [ Well, Tony does have those kinds of suits too, but he doesn't usually fight in them. ] Mostly it's what you'd expect to see on a superhero, just... more stylish, I guess. And better quality. Some of them are more stealth-oriented. And one of us has this suit or armor made mainly of titanium alloy.

That pathetic attempt at redirecting his ire wasn't going to work. Fenris knew that he ought to kill him and be done with it. Giving an abomination a chance was just asking for trouble. Anders was proof of that. But something stayed his hand.

It wasn't mercy or optimism. Fenris was low on both of those. When he considered, he recognized it as am irritating form of pragmatism: they were all meant to be crewmates on this ship. Likely killing one without provocation would led to trouble.

So he scoffed, glaring at the thing. Then he turned and walked away. He would keep an eye on it. If it gave him a reason, he'd do what needed to be done.

"You'd think the captains would have trained us, but apparently they don't know how to think that far ahead," Snake says derisively as he continues to poke around on the screen and jab at buttons until something happens. He's not a tech guy either, but the one thing Otacon has managed to teach him is that a lot of it is experimenting until something happens. The first step in that is not being afraid to try things.

Eventually he does hit the right button, which displays a map on the left side of the screen with the Moira at its center. Surrounding it are smaller blips, which Snake assumes are the ships pursuing them.

On the right side is a targeting reticle.

Nodding to himself, Snake reaches for the joystick and starts to move one of those blips under said reticle. "Let's see if this works." He presses down the button on the back end of the joystick.

[ Bruce peels off the bandages with particular care too, making sure not to cause the woman any more pain than she already is in. Once her shoulder's bare, a long gash can be seen there, now stitched up and healing well. Sadly some injuries are a little too complicated for the medigel to take care of on its own, but once the wound starts closing up, they should be able to use the gel to fix it up quickly.

For now, though, he just grabs a bottle of antiseptic to clean up the skin around the wound, and some new bandages to wrap up her shoulder. ]

Me? No. I'm the chief science officer actually, so I run the science department. Here, though, I'm just helping out. Technically I'm not even a medical doctor.

[ Though he knows more than enough to do pretty well on his own, and look like he fits in with the actual doctors and medics that work here. ]

You'll have to ask someone else, sorry. But I'm sure no one will mind you dropping by when the place is a little quieter.

[ Most areas on the ship are pretty open to just about anyone, after all. ]
knaval: (for me)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-02-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good." he says, nodding. More to himself than Allison.

"Uh. Anyway. Are you part of the crew? I have some... complaints about. Well, the size of this place, really. I can't feel my legs."
hyperkinesia: (Thanks for asking nicely.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-02-10 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yes, Bruce still remembers all that. Well, bits and pieces, in some cases. By his own hand or not, he definitely wouldn't want to see anyone getting injured that badly again. ]

Sounds like they didn't really want to stay, anyway. [ Not like they forced them out of their own planet against their will. Definitely different from the people who escaped from Caducus Primary - that time, they didn't really have much of a choice. ] It is good, though. Things still happened, but... they didn't happen because of us. If anything, we managed to help a little. [ There's a small smile there, though tired. ] At least I like to think so.
hyperkinesia: (This is sealed tight.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-02-10 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's difficult to explain, or to even find a term of comparison. He's come to find that it's not entirely impossible to find some common ground with Gems, but overall they're very different from humans, and it definitely shows in some things more than others. This, he thinks, happens to be one of those things.

At her answer, he stares, expressionless for a few seconds, even as he finally drops his head a little.

"Yes. You're right, it is."

A lapse in his train of thought there, he recognizes that. Even back in his own world, he knows all too well how there are cities and whole countries much worse off and far more dangerous than this ship could ever be, even to children - possibly especially to children. Even in otherwise safe places there are children living in constant danger of getting hurt, even by those who should supposedly care for them and keep them safe - Bruce of all people should (and does) know.

[Tali's idea of causing a decoy is simple. Create holographic combat drone with an ability to shock people; let loose on populace. She's not mean enough to be at all entertained by this - actually, she's flinching every time it hits anybody. She's well out of the way, masked and uniformed, and since the drone is just intelligent enough to float its own way around, she's largely just making sure it doesn't hit the crew, wandering a long a good distance behind.

...Then they both turn a corner, and there's a giant robot. Right there. Backing away from an entire squad of Emiri police, and Tali is distracted for a long moment as her jaw drops and she stares unabashedly, frozen in place.

Her combat drone, however, is not frozen in place. And maybe Riptide's MID is high enough to be outside of its scanning range; maybe Tali programmed in some kind of robots are the enemy protocols ages ago and just forgot about them; maybe Tali's ancestors just hate her going back seven solid generations. Whatever the case, the combat drone dutifully floats its way over towards this giant robot's robot ankle, noticed by Tali only when it's in the middle of charging, at which point her frantic yell of--]

Wait, no--

[--is entirely ignored.

Maybe. If she's very lucky. The giant robot will not notice. Or at the very least will not notice her.]

[riptide does, unfortunately, notice the combat drone. both through it zapping his foot and the signal on his scanner.

confident the emiri security won't be bugging him for now (he might be right. there's only so much they can do with a giant robot who doesn't really appear to be trying to murder anyone and actively avoiding property damage with the weapons they have. riptide really hopes they didn't call in a tank without him realising), he gives them one last frown then turns around to see who's zapping him.

he looks around. then down.

aww. look at the little guy. riptide crouches down, resting his arms on his knees.]

Aw. They try to get you too, buddy? [he's aware this thing isn't sentient, but at this point riptide doesn't even care. he casts a glare over his shoulder.] Or are you working for them...

[ Bruce reaches out for the supplies once she makes her way back, setting it all down on a trolley nearby, and starting by grabbing some gauze to clear up the excess blood from the wounds. ]

He'll live. [ That, he says loud enough for the guy to hear him. A cursory glance and examination have told him that it's just some cuts and bruises, it's the couple of bigger gashes he has that are making more of a mess, but the blood makes it look a lot more dramatic than it really is. He might have a fractured rib at most, but that should even heal on its own.

The guy's looking up at Bruce now, eyes flickering to Pepper, and he smiles back at him a little. ]
Hey. Tell me your name?

[ It's a good sign when he manages to answer, looking at least to be aware of himself. Once Bruce starts cleaning up the blood from his torso, it's easy to see a bigger gash along his shoulder just above his collarbone, something that'll need stitches at the very least. He's lucky, though - a little closer to his neck and it could have gotten one of his carotid arteries. ]

That's not so bad. [ His hands keep prodding around the edge of his ribs, attentive to any sign that the man is in pain, but it seems he only feels some mild discomfort when he presses into one of the ribs. ] He probably fractured a rib, but internally he seems to be alright. A scan won't hurt him, but for now we can focus on cleaning and stitching up that wound. [ He nods at the supplies on the trolley. ] Gloves, then grab the antiseptic.

He's slowly learning how to tell an American accent and a Betan apart -- although there's not really much of a difference when you get to the basics. Both flat, both odd to his ears. Still, he grins wider and takes her hand in a good shake. Elizabeth's reaction to having her hand being kissed way back when has put him off of springing it on people -- even if that turned out ok in the end.

"Welcome aboard the Moira, Allison Ruth. If I don't have an answer to your questions, I can probably find someone who can. So, anything you wanna get out of the way first?"

His tone is light and jovial, probably not the best to deliver bad news by, but eh. Beggars can't be choosers. Except he would have picked a girl over any of the other imports any day, so maybe that doesn't work.

[About a day after Frederick Link's body is found from the Cargo Bay and the situation at Emiri turned hostile, J appears to theMedbay.

Except that she doesn't look like that lovely young lady from before. The teasing smile is replaced by an irritated frown and she's wearing the ever-so-boring Moira uniform instead of her stylish black dress. However, the most obvious and glaring difference in her is the black eye and rather huge purple bruise that covers left side of her cheek, accompanied with a small wounds.

She looks around for a moment to see if anyone's around and after failing to spot any staff she decides to help herself and start going through shelves and try all drawers that aren't locked to see if she could find something. Painkillers to ease the throbbing and ache and something that's disinfectant.]

[ There are a lot of people in the medbay right now. Between the wave of new arrivals, the appearance of Link's body on their ship, and the myriad of people coming and going from Emiri, there's a lot of activity, which is a little difficult to keep track of. Some people are just getting checked up, while others are already sporting a few injuries from altercations down on the planet, and Bruce has been going from one person to the next, trying to help the best he can.

Seeing someone in uniform going through the cabinets isn't too weird, considering all the people here trying to help - what's weird is how they're more or less making a mess of everything while clearly looking for something. So he makes his way over, not reaching out or stopping them but stepping close enough to peer at their face. ]

Can I help... J? [ Out of a dress and in a uniform, he hadn't even recognized her, though he doesn't get stuck on that thought for long when he sees the huge swollen bruise around her eye. ] Jesus, what happened to you?

Gregor reaches up and catches the tip of the baton between two fingers, flicking it away--it looks too much like a shock stick for him to be pleased about having it that near his heart--and watches Aurelia steadily.

"I heard that some of the locals had kidnapped a group of children and were holding them in a building not far from this drop point. I found that... annoying." His voice is incredibly mild. "I take the kidnapping of children quite unnecessarily personally, you see. I thought I might come down and correct their assumptions of what constitutes acceptable conduct."
