Open R1, Open R5, Private Voice
Who: Fareeha and you!
When: Today and onwards
Where: R1, R5, or anywhere inbetween
What: Fareeha returns from an exhausting contract job and starts to reconnect with friends
Warnings: na, will add as needed
Open - Lion House, R5
[Fareeha finally arrives home after escorting a Savrii celebrity on an off-planet tour. It was exhausting and frustrating work, if relatively easy considering some of her past experiences. Still, she's glad to get back to Lion House - depositing her suitcase in her room and going to the kitchen to fix herself some tea before settling on the couch. She'd intended on just relaxing and winding down after a long bit of travel, but jet lag and fatigue took over before long she's got her head tipped back against the couch and she's sleeping soundly.]
Open - Miller's Diner, R1
[It's been a couple days, and once she's rested a little bit, she makes a point to head out to Miller's diner for a pick-me-up. She's been in limited contact and is looking forward to getting back in touch with people. If you get a message from her, it's probably while she's sitting in the diner.]
[Of course, part of the reason she's chosen this location is the promise of a little emotional support while she sends a difficult message. She's had time to let the news that Jack had dropped on her settle in, and while the anger isn't as sharp, there's a deep settled discomfort. She's not ready to talk to Jack yet, but there's still this pressing desire to actually have a relationship with her mother - she didn't want to lose her again. Trust was still going to be very scarce, but that was just something she'd have to take as it comes.]
[So she might be a little distracted if you find her here, but she is still open for a conversation.]
Private -- Ana
[It's a voice message. It's a step up from text, but not quite to the level of video yet. Her voice is steady, if lacking warmth.]
I am home now, if you wanted to talk.
Wildcard
[Or, feel free to catch her anywhere inbetween!]

he enters the room, quietly closing the door and sits next to her, putting a warm hand on her shoulder and shaking her gently.]
Hey, Fareeha?
Re: lion houuussee
[Fareeha is show to rouse but eventually sits up, blinking blearily. She sees Lúcio and smiles before attempting to rub some of the sleep off her face.]
Lúcio! Hey! Sorry, I hadn't expected to nap like that ...
no subject
[he sits opposite her, beaming.]
no subject
You get me either of those and I'm likely to fall asleep again. [For as tired as she was, and as much as recent family drama is still hanging on her, Lucio's stupidly happy face is impossible to ignore and she grins looking at him.] What have you been up to? Something certainly has you in a good mood.
no subject
[he leans forward, elbows on his knees.]
I'm just glad to see you home safe, is all.
no subject
And a pillow would be nice, actually. But while you get that -- I'll be right back.
[She gets up and stretches, then disappears for a few moments while she heads to her room to dig through her suitcase. She comes back and hands Lúcio a little sound chip and a small roll of glossy paper.] I couldn't say anything while on tour, but I was escorting a Savrii rock musician. Was able to get you his latest album and a signed poster.
no subject
Thank you! Thank you, thank you! I love it, Pharah!
no subject
Anything for you, Lúcio.

You're so good to me, Fareeha...!
no subject
Everyone else isn't good enough to you.
LION HOUSE
[When he gets downstairs and sees Fareeha, he almost calls out to her. When did she get home? It's been ages! But then he notices the way her head is tipped. Man, he's been there before. He couldn't bring himself to wake her.]
[That said, he quietly goes back up stairs, then returns with one of his blankets. Quietly, he drapes it over her, then goes into the kitchen to cook up some breakfast.]
RAR
Whatever smells so good, I hope you're making extras.
[Now that she's been able to get most of hte sleep taken care of, she is aware that she's quite hungry. She hopes whoever is in the kitchen is a kind and generous soul.]
no subject
Heh, I had a feeling this might wake you up. Don't worry, I'm making plenty.
Coffee or juice?
no subject
[She rouses and makes her way to the kitchen, stretching, yawning, and then pulling down plates and silverware for the both of them.]
How have you been, Darin?
no subject
You look like you've seen better jobs though. I've never seen you pass out on the couch before.
[He moves over to the toaster and feeds it two slices of bread, then pulls the tab down before grabbing two glasses. He tops them off with some blue juice and hands Fareeha a glass.]
Must have been hell. Gonna take the rest of the day off I hope?
no subject
I'll probably take a week before looking for another gig. The thing is, this wasn't exactly a dangerous or high-stress high-trauma experience; it was just tiring. Escorting prima-donna egotistical celebrities is not something I'm keen to repeat. He's used to getting everything he wants and having everything exactly right and throws the most inane, child-like tantrums if it's not going his way. And I got to be the first and last person to deal with him throughout the tour; I was his bodyguard, escort, and nanny.
Please, tell me about the world's you've visited; I need to live vicariously over someone who didn't nearly pull their hair out because the flowers were white with blue spots instead of green with purple spots.
no subject
[He laughs as he starts to serve up the breakfast on both plates. He makes sure to give her a little extra. It sounds like she needs it.]
Well, I've been spending a lot of time Aueia doing some fishing. Hunk cooks, so I've been bringing him a lot of things to cook with. Aside from that, it's been mostly odd jobs. I'm trying to stay out of trouble. Which I'm sure comes as a surprise.
no subject
[She sees what you did there but she's not complaining becuase - you know what? She's starving. ] How are our new housemates? We've got a couple, don't we?
no subject
[He grins and brings the plates over to the table, setting her out, then taking a seat at his place.]
Yup...those would be Lance and Keith, the remaining paladins from Shiro's team. I'm glad his whole crew is here...
[As happy as he is, that last statement sounded a little bit more somber than he'd intended.]
If anyone out there deserves it, it's Shiro.
no subject
[But, her own tone turns somber too - and although she wouldn't admit it there's a pang of jealousy. Does she not deserve her own team? Her brothers and sisters in Helix, especially after being cuts her family have made recently - her own mother? She focuses on her food for a moment.]
It seems he's been having a rough time lately. Good something's gone right for him.
no subject
Tell me about it...
He and the Princess had a bit of a tiff. I wound up siding with her because, honestly? The guy pushes himself too hard. I told him to take a few days to himself and then...get this...he puts me in charge.
I was just about ready to skip out and then he pulls that business?
no subject
[And if he had a spat with Allura? Then whatever he was going through must be pretty serious.] And, look, the house isn't on fire, everyone is alive; job well done, Darin.
[Because things are getting a little too heavy.]
no subject
...They're a good group. Not perfect. Not by any means. And I think they all want to get better for each other.
I'm...jealous. You know? I never had that. I never thought I should have that. But...here I am.
[The weight of the conversation seems to have dissipated with that. He's smiling now, but it's a bit wistful.]
I've never been part of a team before.
no subject
[She eats a bit in thoughtful silence before continuing.] It took me a while to really appreciate it. My time in the army I was focused on trying to make a name for myself; to prove myself worthy of joining Overwatch, and when that failed an attempt to prove myself to my mother. It wasn't until I left the army and joined Helix that I truly gained an understanding of what it meant to be part of a team.
We're family. We eat together, train together, fight and die together. Those are some of the strongest bonds you'll ever forge. And maybe here, it's different; we're something of a domicile, it's mundane, but I think the same ideals still apply.
no subject
You ever miss it?
Helix, I mean. Being with fellow soldiers, going on missions, things like that?
no subject
It is something I would like to do in person, if you would permit.
( If not she could begrudgingly do it over this.... but so impersonal )
no subject
[She debates quietly for a moment, because no; she doesn't want to do this in person, but the aversion and the anger has had time to settle into a dull burn instead of the sharpness it had held before. Besides, she knew of a place that came with her own support - and she's already there.]
Fine. How about here? [She sends coordinates to Miller's diner.]
no subject
( And she is true to her word, not leaving Fareeha waiting for too long before the door to the diner is pushed open, Ana stepping through.
She looks first, a small smile forming once she sees her daughter )
Fareeha. It is good to see you.
( Though she knows there is much that has happened for her daughter she cannot pretend, nor hide the fact that for her it has been so long. The relief at seeing her daughter safe and well, even if Lucio had already said at much, is wonderful )
no subject
[There is a conflict of emotions seeing Ana, for the first time since she left the farm after Jack's reveal. Fareeha was so unquestioningly hurt by the two of them, but this was still her mother; someone she had once buried and never imagined she'd see again. Having gone through that, it didn't matter how mad she could get; she would always deep down be happy to have her back.]
[Still, the hesitance is clear as she stands in order to give her a hug. She knows her mother would expect - or at least hope- for that much.]
I hadn't expected to see you so soon. Is there something wrong?
no subject
There is not.
( She's stepping closer, silent as she simply holds Fareeha for a moment. It had been too long. Had it all been a mistake? Her conversation with Reinhardt, even her own reflection had told her that she had had other options then, but it was nothing she could change now )
But-- ( She steps back enough to look at Fareeha, hands resting on her shoulders ) --there is something you must know. Not a secret, but a truth still.
( She doesn't expect it to change anything, because how Fareeha feels is perfectly justified, but it'll be there to explain why Ana may not be able to react to some things )
no subject
[But, at Ana's words, she stiffens; her lips draw into a thin line. She's had about enough of secrets and truths and the idea that her mother's got another up her sleeve doesn't set her at ease. A wrong assumption, perhaps, but one based on previous experience. Fareeha doesn't move; neither sitting down or lingering in the hug or answering Ana's hands on her shoulders in kind. Her hands rest at her sides, in light fists to help ground herself.]
What else is there?
[There's a resignation to her voice; that she has to come to grips with the fact that she'll never know what's going to come out of her mother's mouth next. She doesn't feel she'll ever be able to rest easy around her again.]
no subject
( And it wasn't only Fareeha that would have failed to notice but some of the others too -- ones that were not mad at her. Perhaps she hadn't been gone long, or perhaps as Angela had said she had been hidden away quite well. It would not be surprising )
But I was sent from this place. I was brought back but not as I was before. I did not remember what I had done before, and still do not.
( The Moira, or coming to Thisavrou. The rebuilding of their friendship, keeping Jack's secrets and then ripping up many relationships when it came to light. So much that she'd done that Ana didn't remember )
I tell you so that you know, nothing more.
( It's not a free pass, it's not wiping anything clean. Ana may not remember but Fareeha does and she cannot, nor will not ask her daughter to just forget and pretend simply because she does not remember )
no subject
[Ana had no idea, then. She didn't know that moment Jack walked in and interrupted them, she didn't know the moment prior when Fareeha had felt closer to her mother than ever before, here. Suddenly, although it's through no fault of her own - she couldn't have known - she feels incredibly guilty and selfish, the idea that Ana would have left while they were on such terrible terms, or that she unwittingly subjected her to that pain and ire when she returned none the wiser. It's crushing in a way she can't describe, that feels less like a righteous anger of before and more like a clawing in the pit of her stomach that she's failed somehow. There's still a lingering anger and hurt, but right now it's misdirected and lost - Fareeha herself feels misdirected and lost. She pulls in a long breath, closing her eyes, and lets it out in a breath before looking back at her mother, mixed emotions and regret and so much unspoken pain in her eyes.]
I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have -- I treated you so poorly.
no subject
( A hand moves up to brush some of Fareeha's hair back, lingering for a few seconds more on her face )
You did not know.
( Ana would not shame her daughter for that, or judge her for something out of their control. Jack had told her of what had happened before she'd left, of Ana's involvement in his secret. The details had not been complete regarding how it had gone down (and Ana had not asked for them) but other conversations had enlightened her some more )
There is no apology necessary.
( Though there is also not going to be one from Ana. This isn't the only decision she's made that Fareeha hasn't agreed with and she's never apologised before. She stands by it, and it wasn't wrong )
no subject
[And she's never been good at asking for help, but in this place, with the way things have been going, she needs it. She's tired of being angry, tired of the emotional exhaustion, and in this moment she just wants the comfort that her mother is here, and alive, and willing to try again.]
[She takes in an unsteady breath, finding herself thankful for this moment after everything that's happened.]

Diner
[He carefully walks up to the table and awkwardly fidgets with his hands.]
Ah, hey... Fareeha, right? [He rubs the back of his neck.] I dunno if you remember me, but I was hoping we could talk for a minute.
Diner
Yes, absolutely. Have a seat, Lea?
no subject
So, ah... phew, I'm not sure where to begin, um... [He makes a bit of a face, then rakes a hand back through his hair.] About... before... [Come on, Lea, you're usually way more articulate than this.] I'm really not sure what came over me, to be honest. I mean, I'm always up for meeting new people, but I don't usually go about it in such a hideously cliché and corny manner, if you follow. [Another sigh that sends the little antennae at the front of his hairline askew, and he gives Fareeha an awkward, apologetic sort of smile.] I was kinda hoping maybe we could try again, now that I'm apparently less compelled to use awful pickup lines.
no subject
I don't think I was quite in my right mind, either.
no subject
no subject
That entire conversation was over the top. No idea what compelled me, but in any case; I'm a little more level headed now.
no subject
Glad to hear it. I'm feeling a little more in control of what comes out of my mouth today, too. That being said... [He sticks his hand out with a smile.] Hi, I'm Lea, nice to meet you. [And then a grin, indicating the next words out of his mouth are obviously facetious.] So, come here often?
no subject
I won't if you insist on making jokes like that.
[She's smiling though; just kidding, Lea! She holds her hand out in greeting.] Fareeha. It's nice to meet you.
