( a spot of tea )

a spot of tea
A few hours into it, Venom's tried at least twenty teas. He should be sick of it, but he's still going strong. His next stop is a quaint shop on the corner. An older woman seems to be enjoying her cup, and whatever it is, it smells heavenly.
Normally, he's the type to leave people with their tea and go about his business, but the smell piques his curiosity too much.]
I apologize for interrupting, but what kind of tea is that?
no subject
Karkade, or so they tell me. The blend is not quite the same but it passes.
( Ana takes her tea quite seriously, though considering that they're on an alien planet she can be a little forgiving. She makes a gesture to the pot that she has )
I have enough for a second cup.
no subject
A-are you sure?
[He says as he's pulling up a chair. She's not the only one who takes tea seriously.]
no subject
It is not quite so sweet as it should be, but it is still good.
no subject
It's a bit stronger than I expected, but still very good. I appreciate you letting me try it.

Still leaves them both with a lot of blanks to fill in, and no matter how much this feels like retirement, Jack is just glad to have the time with her.
He returns from a quick job to find her out on the porch, teacup in hand, and that thing in his chest that he didn't know was still there twists a little. Loath as he is to think about something like retirement, maybe something like this isn't all bad--or at least, he can deal with it for a little while. No more than he has to.]
Busy day?
rude
Her head tips up as Jack's footsteps announce his approach, and she takes a sip of tea before responding )
In some ways.
( It was not 'busy' but there had been plenty of thinking involved, and she did have a lot to consider and reconcile. Being here once before, the knowledge of what had just been about to happen at home, her relationships (or failing ones) with her friends and daughter. Ana had left herself much to do )
Though I may have sat here longer than I planned, now I think of it.
( She wasn't sat there when Jack left but it may have been an hour too long that she's been outside for )
no subject
Not a bad thing.
[Even if they're both loath to call this some kind of retirement. He knows full well the dangers of complacency. Freed of his body armor and gear, he leans against the railing, looking out on the front yard.]
It's a lot to take in.
[Meaning he doesn't blame her if she just wants a few quiet hours to herself.]
no subject
It shouldn't take too long for it to settle.
( For her to have it straight in her head. Getting all of the matters calmer and repaired would take a lot longer, but she's not trying to minimise them -- she knows the stakes, always has )
Where did you go?
( Just to explore or to one of the other planets? )

( at the farm )
When he doesn't get an answer at the house, he sidles off to have a quick peek around the property, undeterred by the ominous NO TRESPASSING warning. Worse comes to worse he can leave the pie on the doorstep with a note, but he'd really prefer to hand it over in person if possible.
It's not long before he sees a woman apparently enjoying a cup of tea not too far from the house, so he approaches, baked good in hand, with his usual friendly grin.]
Hello! Sorry if I'm intruding; I won't stay long! I'm just coming round to introduce myself. I live down at Number 11 - my name's Hawke.
no subject
She gives him a brief smile, lowering her cup a little as she turns more to face him. There's a few seconds where Ana looks him over, taking in a brief impression -- and seeing what he's holding, before she responds )
I'm Ana. I did not realise so many of the farms were occupied.
( She would have had she ventured that way )
no subject
Anyway, It's nice to meet you, Ana. I come bearing neighborly baked goods.
[He brandishes the aforesaid pie.
And by "brandishes" we mean he proffers it politely so that she can see what he's talking about.]
Would you like me to leave it with you here? Or drop it off at the house on my way back?
no subject
( There's a small nod that she gives at the sight of the pie before her gaze goes back to him. Had he planned on staying? Too late, time to get invited anyway. Maybe she'll share the pie with her offer of some tea )
Come, I was not doing anything. We can get to know each other better.

da farm (finally slides into this)
He has to go for fruit, because it's one of the few things easy to eat with one hand, and he can store the seeds to cultivate his own. He's lucky this time: it doesn't look like anybody's home, so he can poke through the trees unhindered. He's even brought his staff along to help. Not exactly what it's used for, but he's managed not to explode anything so far.
Then his luck runs out: when he pokes around through the branches, he hears buzzing.
Oh, no.
He has a vivid flash of Sera's horrible bee grenades and fully realizes what kind of trouble he's gotten himself in. Well, good thing he has the staff. He'll just have to ruin his no-explosions track record.
He takes a few steps back and prepares to lob a fireball at the first sign of bee. Sorry, tree, your sacrifice will be remembered. He's focused enough on it that he probably won't notice someone approaching behind him.]
no subject
What happened?
( Ana can't say whether she was fond of the tree, it's more Jack's than hers and it's a good job he didn't catch it happening, though he shoots just for trespassing nevermind trees )
no subject
And he's still trespassing.
Quick, Lavellan, think of something.]
There was a bear. [In the tree.] Don't worry, I scared it off.
no subject
This planet must have strange bears.
( Ana does not, in fact, believe him. If it wasn't clear )
I have not before heard of trees destroyed so.

BEEGATE: The Aftermath
Or on the porch, it seems. On the porch with One-Hand-Tattoo-Face McGee. The situation all at once becomes that much more bewildering.]
What the hell is this?
[He says, more-or-less stomping up to the porch and gesturing to what used to be a tree. Ana! What is this! What happened!? How could you let it happen!?]
no subject
At Jack's footsteps her head is raised, attention turned from her guest to him. The teacup goes down, set on the table on the porch )
A friendly discussion, Jack. I know you remember them.
( She knows exactly what he's talking about, but honestly everything's fine. No one died )
no subject
At least the tea is nice, and the woman doesn't seem like she's in danger of kicking his ass.]
Hello again. It's been a while. How's the grievous stab wound?
no subject
Or maybe he's just mad about the arson. Clearly, Ana would not have invited Lavellan in for tea if she thought he was dangerous, but Jack is currently pissed about the smoldering that's happening on his lawn.]
Did you do that to my tree?
[His tree. His bees. Everything here is his. And Ana's--but for right now it will be his.]
no subject
Jack.
( Her tone's a little warning, and she'll lower the cup to her lap )
There was a bear.
( ... Ana why )
no subject
It's true. Right up there. [He gestures helpfully at the obviously destroyed tree.] I'd be careful if I were you. You might have an infestation.
