OTA

[At first, Emori doesn't venture out a lot on her own. She's almost always with John but eventually you might find her alone. She's like scouting the woods either looking to hunt or steal from someone unsuspecting. You might want to be careful with your money if you're alone out there.

She's curious, though, exploring and hesitantly starting to talk to other people in the region. She wants to visit R4 but finds herself hesitant to venture that far away from home. She's not sure it would be something John wants to do and hasn't brought it up with him yet. Most likely, you'll find her wandering but she'll explore any of the establishments that R3 has to offer so you might run into her there as well.]

Closed to John & Bryan

[After the audio post, Emori doesn't end up reneging on the desire to learn to read and write. So in their treehouse she's sitting in one of the common areas cross-legged on the floor. They'd gotten some paper and pencils and those are spread out as well. She's not sure if this is going to work. Maybe it's too late to learn how to read and really what's she going to do with the knowledge anyway.

Even though she's home, her deformed hand is still wrapped up like usual, really only ever coming off when she's alone with Murphy.]

How do we even begin this?

[ murphy isn't nearly so concerned, but then again, murphy isn't the best at literacy either. bryan ought to be the one handling the main course of all of this, but instead, murphy's pulled over one of the pieces of paper, and starts to scrawl on it - bit letters, writing out letters in order, A, B, C, and so on.

once there's all 27, he scoots himself across the floor to emori's side, putting it down on the floor in front of them, an arm around her back as he taps each letter with the eraser end. ]

Here, with the alphabet. These letters make up words, and each one gets its own sound. So this first one is A, and the sound is like 'ah'. Like 'apple'. [ scrawling a dumb little picture, murphy draws an apple next to it. there. A. Next is B, so he goes for a little bat. the bat has a grouchy looking face. >:( ]

[Bryan and Emori had talked about practicing reading and writing. He'd learned, but not a lot of kids on the Ark had. There were words he didn't know, things he'd never even heard of, but he had the basics down. He wasn't much of a teacher but he was patient enough and if someone actually wanted to read and write, it'd be selfish of him not to try and teach them.

He almost doesn't want to interrupt. Emori and Murphy are sweet together - he kind of thinks that John's a better man just for having her in his life. They compliment each other. He's envious of them sometimes, lonelier than he'd ever admit. He tries to fill up that emptiness by keeping busy, acting out in ways he'd never had a reason to before, but it's the way he wraps his arm around her back, holds her close - reminds him that not everything is broken, he can do some good here, too.

Clearing his throat, so they aren't surprised, he kneels down across from them. He picks up a piece of paper, draws a big C on it, and a chicken.]

Next one is C. It can be the start of cat or chicken. [He points at his drawing.] The sounds of the first letter might change depending on what comes next. Like cah-t or ch-icken.
