SHIP LIFE

"It is not the ship so much as skillful sailing that assures a prosperous voyage."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and various machines line the walls on either side, though they are not accessible from where you stand. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and sign a contract that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and into the main hall with specific instructions not to leave.

☄MAIN HALL ( 09.01 to 09.03 )

After everyone is gathered together, you learn that these are your accommodations for the night. The captains explain that the Moira is not readily suited for such a large influx of people, and that this is only temporary. Placed around the room are a variety of blankets, sheets, and mats in lieu of beds, and crates of MREs have been provided along with H₂O hydration kits. Some time in the “morning hours”, all MIDs will receive a message designating rooming assignments and areas of the ship that are open to exploration.

GALLEY ● MESS HALL ● REC AREA

All remaining areas accessible to crew members are open later in the “evening hours”. Crew are also informed that the Moira is approximately two days from their current destination.

DESCENSION

"A force of nature unto itself."

From a distance, the planet’s reddish atmosphere slowly becomes more transparent the closer the Moira ventures, and mountain ranges, volcanic fields, valleys, ice caps, canyons, deserts, and impact craters are visible in stark detail. The remnants of a lone moon hangs in its outer orbit and impedes the ship’s ability to dock close to the planet’s surface. As the crew prepares to disembark, there are noticeable changes in gravity as well as some disturbances in energy output.

☄EXPLORATORY EXCURSION I ( 09.04 to 09.11 )

Due to unstable atmospheric conditions, crew members must utilize the transporters located in the Cargo Bay to descend to the surface. Each craft holds upwards of six passengers and is piloted remotely via Navigation. Once it lands, orders will be sent to MIDs detailing mission directives. These include: scouting surrounding areas for potential threats, determining if the mile-long road from the transporter to the nearest inhabited area is free of hazards, and assessing local friendliness.

Planetary Environment Details
● The air is breathable. However, there is a pleasant sweetness to it that generates an overall invigoration.
● Vegetation is sparse due to dry and windy weather patterns. It’s dusty, and the ground itself is rather gritty in texture.
● The initial temperature feels hot and causes the skin to prickle with sweat. Yet, the longer one is exposed to the elements, the less you are inclined to notice.
● There is an overall lack of civilization, and what populace there is remains centralized in one area. Crew members may stumble across the occasional explorer returning to their own ship; they are friendly and welcoming but also eager to leave.
● The sun does not seem to set. Even in the “later” hours of the day, it is still as bright as it had been at “noon”.

☄EXPLORATORY EXCURSION II ( 09.12 to 09.17 )

A thriving marketplace that was found during the initial search has been deemed an appropriate place for trade and much needed supplies. Crew members are encouraged to engage in local customs while continuing to maintain their current duties aboard the Moira, and they must assist in the delivery of goods to the transporter. They are more than welcome to explore this new area.

The Marketplace
● There is no monetary system in place; if there is an item you want, trade for it. (Locals will accept anything as payment.)
● Booths, shops, and tents line both sides of the pathways weaving throughout the area. Signs with written language are not recognizable; however, MIDs will translate any spoken languages so they are understood. Vendors are an eclectic mix of species, and not all of them are humanoid in form as they are from varying parts of the universe.
● The smells of foreign foods are everywhere. Yet, that familiar sweetness seems to occasionally overpower it. It is also loud as others bustle about their business.
● Natives are not unkind, but they are not as overly welcoming as strangers in the market are. They are quiet, reserved, and helpful to some extent. They are easily recognizable by the plain masks and hoods worn over their faces.
●Seedy areas are found in the depths of the market. Drug and sex trades are not uncommon but not openly displayed.

"'Til you need it?" He arches a brow. He could see keeping things to yourself, but that sounded vaguely worrisome.

He gives Billy a look that implies a healthy amount of derision and incredulity. "Mate. You think for a second that being a mutant in this place ain't gonna be useful? I'm happy enough them thinking I'm a regular bloke. The moment someone tries to take advantage of that? I'll show them just what being bloody homo-superior is all about."

"No, I'm not saying that... I'm sure they're going to make use of us all in some way, in every way they can." And they don't have a lot of leverage here to make sure it doesn't happen.

"But I'm not entirely sure causing trouble will get us any better off at the moment."

"Which is exactly why I'm not 'bout to start causing trouble mate. Lying low." He just shrugs. "And it ain't just the captains I'm worried about." Except he's going to take note about the fact that Billy didn't actively shudder over the supremacist slang for mutants.

Just because he didn't shudder over it doesn't mean he approves. His friends are mostly human -- and he doesn't think mutants are any better or worse than them. But he'd rather get a feel for this guy, see what he's really like. "You think the rest of us are potential threats then?"

"Maybe, yeah." He just tilts his head to the side, thinking about it. "Threats come from all sorts of places, mate. Just 'cause I'm a bloody powerful bloke don't mean I'm stupid." Except he was regularly stupid. "Ain't always the threat of violence either." No, physical threats were the things Ade wasn't afraid of. Things that came from a mental or psychological angle, now those were.

"What can you do anyway?" He shifts a bit, shrugging. "Trust me. I know threats. The place I came from before I was pulled here? It-- wasn't pretty. A form of hell, is what the person who ran it called it. I don't think this is as bad. So far anyway."

He narrows his eyes ever so slightly before reaching for the glass and taking a drink. "What I do don't matter mate." He downs the contents of the glass now. "All I know is they called me an Omega level back in the fac-" He pulls himself short, suddenly remembering to withhold the name of his prison. "Back where I lived before the institute."

"Hm..." Billy looks a little skeptical for a moment -- he's not entirely sure what's going on with Force, but something definitely feels off. "Do you know who the Scarlet Witch is?"

He ignores the scepticism, willing to brush it off if it meant avoiding questions. When Billy asks that question though he shakes his head slowly. "Don't know a lot of people mate. She one of us?"

"She's one of the strongest mutants around. She could probably undo reality if she wanted--" He pauses, thoughtfully.

"You might come from a time she isn't quite as known though. It's not that unusual, I guess. Anyway, she's my mom. We have similar mutations."

He tilts his head ot the side. "Fuck. Only mutants I know about that are famous for being strong are Professor X and Magneto." He says the professor's name with something almost like frustration and Magneto's with something like reverence. It was clear which side of the divide he sat on.

"Similar mutations? You telling me you could undo reality?" Because that was interesting and worrying.

"Magneto is her father. No one knew it right off though..." He arches a brow curiously. "Magneto supporter?"

Because it certainly sounds like it...

"I can warp reality, and yeah, probably undo everything. I wouldn't though. I'd prefer to not go down in history as the guy who destroys everything."

"Wait, you're Magneto's grandson?" Because he's going to give Billy the most perplexed and amazed look ever right now. He wasn't even aware that the master of magnetism had children, never mind grandkids, he shakes his head slowly in retrospect. "Not saying I'm a Magneto supporter mate. Mutant supporter though, yeah." Mostly because humanity hadn't done him much good in recent years.

"Warp reality?" His eyes widen. "Fuck mate. That's- yeah, that's something alright."

"That's my granddad, yeah." Not that he knows him that well, not personally, but Billy has met him a few times at least. "Mutant supporter is a good thing."

Just not when it led to people dying. Some of his best friends were humans- he wouldn't want them hurt any more than humans.

"Don't worry. I don't go around using it for the fun of it or anything."

He shakes off the sensation of being awestruck rather quickly. "Definitely a good thing mate. Good to know you agree. Would be pretty shit if the first mutant I met here ended up being one of those wankers what wants a cure." Because he hated people like that, people who wanted to run away from the power they'd been given.

"You probably should. I mean, if you can warp reality you could probably get us bloody well home." Except he isn't sure if they'd end up in the right reality and he had a bad habit of mistrusting other people- even if they seemed to share the same home.

"I don't want a cure... I've never wanted that. It does get to be a pain, dealing with other people who think you're a freak for what you are though." Both for the powers and... other things. High school had been hell, more or less.

He lets out a laugh at that. "I don't know about that. Last place I got stuck in, they managed to take that part of my power away. I don't know if it's been restored here or not. If it has, then yeah... I'd gladly try to get us all home."

"Good." He nods, seeming pretty pleased with the admission. "Anyone what wants a cure is pissing away an opportunity." That other stuff, well, its a good thing it wasn't being vocalized; after all... Ade would have certain negative things to say.

He looks interested then. "Maybe you've gotta figure a way out to test it some time. Without, I dunno, blowing the whole ship apart or ruining reality completely."

"Or they're just not as stubborn about making sacrifices to fit in, I guess." But Billy was pretty bad about that.

He has to laugh at that. "Ruining reality would be pretty bad, yeah. And there are plenty of places to land in that are worse than this."

He doesn't comment on that one, because he'd made plenty sacrifices to try and fit in with other guys his age. None of them were really important, though, they just were what they were. Then again, he always revealed himself as not quite right after his time in the facility. "Fitting in is easy. Anyone can do it- I mean, not if you've got blue furry skin or something. But there ain't much a point in it anyway if you can't make it an advantage." Spoken like a true soldier.

"It would, yeah. Not sure I'd be able to forgive you that one." Except he says it in an emotionless tone, as if reality existing didn't bear much of a weight on him after all.

"I guess you're right." In a manner anyway. He shifts a bit, thoughtfully. He's not entirely sure what to make of Force, to be honest. Not yet. Hopefully he won't be too much of a loose canon though.

"I can tell," he jokes after a moment, giving a shrug. "You sound like you'd be downright crushed."

Ade just nods once, stiffly, before pouring them both another drink and nursing his own rather than just downing it. After all, even what he was doing now was fitting in in a way that he didn't usually. Sure he might come off as a bit of an alcoholic, but then if you held his drinking habits up against other boys his age and he suddenly became something close to normal.

He let's out a little snort of a laugh at the use of the word crushed. "Would probably be the first time too, mate. Let's just try avoid that one."

"Right, well, I'll definitely try." He brings up his drink for a sip. "So, Force, anything else I should know about you?"

His eyes glint ever so slightly, taking another sip. "Nothing you should no, mate." He shrugs. "Anything you want to know, just ask. I'm an open book." Except there was something in those words that just smacked of untruths.

"I'll keep that in mind. I mean, we're on the same ship... getting to know each other a little bit can't hurt, right? Especially when it looks like we're working together." And he didn't particularly trust their captains...
