"Let them in, and take them out."

[ No harm in admitting to it, is there? ]
It sounds like they were keeping this project a secret from someone, but that part of the recording was corrupted. That seems like an important detail, doesn't it?

[ Just in case they get lucky, Snake replays one of the recordings, but there continues to be static whenever the pertinent name is spoken.
He sighs and looks over his shoulder at the woman. Judging by her accent and appearance, he's pretty sure she's Chinese. Then again, for all he knows, she's from some other planet and there just happens to be a similarity. Miles had sounded like he was Russian, but had been from some world Snake had never heard of, so it's better not to assume. ]
It can't be a coincidence that it's covered up every time. Seems like whoever this guy was worried about caught up to him.

But this person didn't destroy the recordings. They just removed their name. So they wanted someone else to come along and hear the rest?
no subject
[ Or whoever was behind all this didn't mind if they learned the origin of the Moira, if they believed they would eventually come back here. Snake's only speculating, though. ]
This is probably a lot to take in. [ Snake doesn't envy her, although she looks to be handling herself well, all things considered. ] What's your name?
no subject
[ She frowns. Whoever this person is, they were serious about not letting anyone figure out who they were.
His observation makes her nod her head briefly. ]
It is, but people have been kind. My name is Mei-Ling Zhou, but Mei is fine.

At her name, Snake turns in his chair toward her and tilts his head, silently amused. He'd figured she was Chinese already, but that confirms it. ]
I know a Mei Ling... back home, I mean. [ If the woman he's speaking to now is anything like her, then chances are they'll get along. ] Anyway, I'm Snake. [ It's a codename, but most people don't split hairs too much over it. ]
no subject
[ She smiles in a friendly way, and finds his name interesting above anything else. It does sound like a name he gave himself, rather than what parents would name him. ]
Hello, Snake! Have you found audio logs about anything else?
no subject
He shakes his head at her question. ] No, but I'm not much of an expert when it comes to this stuff. If you want to take a look, be my guest.
[ The chair he's sitting in is on wheels, so he pushes it backward to give Mei room. ]
no subject
[ Because Mei is a polite little thing. She moves forward and looks through the information still stored here. The tech isn't that hard for her to navigate, and after a moment, she shakes her head no. ]
This looks like it's it. Can we copy this information to our... [ She hesitates before holding up her wrist. ] Whatever these are called again? [ Cue sheepish smile. ]

[ They used to be MIDs, so Snake's still adjusting to the new technology. Thankfully the TABs are not all that different in terms of functionality, so it hasn't been a huge change to deal with on top of everything else that's been turned upside-down.
Snake shakes his head. ] If there's a way to do it, I don't know how. [ He doesn't hesitate to admit that. ] I was thinking of just transcribing it by hand. [ Of course, that requires getting his hands on a pen and paper. ]
no subject
[ Already she's reaching towards the upper right arm of her parka. Attached to the sleeve is a tiny weather resistant notebook and pencil, which she takes out and offers to him. ]
no subject
[ Snake takes the notebook from her, examining the protective covering on it before he opens it up to a blank page.
To be fair, he usually doesn't have much reason to write things down. In the middle of a mission the best he can do is put something to memory; there's not any time for transcribing things when you're getting shot at.
He reaches forward to replay the audio log entries and starts scribbling in scratchy shorthand. ]
no subject
[ But then she stays quiet so he can concentrate. She's polite that way. ]
no subject
[ After that, he stands and stretches, not really meant for desk work. ]
I'm gonna keep taking a look around. If you, uhh, have any questions about all this, though, I can try to answer them.
[ It's the least he can do after she lent him her journal. ]

[ He had known from the start that it might turn out like this. If something seems to good to be true, it is, but the captains had told them enough to string them along and make use of them until now. ]
You get told there's an end to all this, and then there isn't... I think everyone's a little rattled.
[ But what can they do, except for keep moving forward? ]
no subject
[ Mei's not going to lose hope. She's sure they'll find a solution. ]
Are you going further down?
no subject
Not that he's going to lay out his weariness for someone he's just met. He instead nods to her question. ]
That was the idea.
[ He makes for the door, figuring she'll follow if she wants to. ]
no subject
[ ooc: good to wrap up? ]
