"Let them in, and take them out."

He doesn't entertain the notion that he won't make it back, because that seems like a betrayal. There are still parts of him bound to Ishmael, and that's still (despite some newfound misgivings) a psychological fulcrum. A keystone.
Satisfied that Kaz seems marginally less agitated, DD wanders back to Venom and rests on his haunches at Venom's feet. ]
Inventory's still the same. [ As when they were camping, he means. His Windurger, SVG-67, survival knife, dried meat. His iDroid (a glorified music player at this point), his cassette player. Paz's tapes, an electronic cigar. Survival gear gifted to the crew by the Captains as a paltry apology for the situation.
Oh, and— ] —Managed to salvage this, too. [ He reaches inside his pac-disc, and
takes out a cardboard fucking box. ]

[There's a moment where one can tell Kaz is truly suffering because the people in which he's invested his life, his very being, fucking love their cardboard boxes. He smears his hand down the side of his face, careful of his sunglasses. Sure, okay.]
[He remembers being so enamored with Snake that, despite the onion box, despite that time he was trapped with the horrible sweat smell, he honestly considered asking him if there was room for two in one flirtatiously. (They both knew there was room for two in one, and he knew if he asked Snake would say, "Yeah, it's designed for it, you should know that", and walk off.)]
[What is his life?]
[Alright, back to the subject at hand.]
I made a list of my current possessions. I think I could give you my survival gear. [He holds out his TAB with a list brought up. It reads:
FULTON RECOVERY SYSTEM (NEEDS TO BE RESET)
STEALTH CAMO
COOKING ITEMS
ALCOHOL
BED
KINGSMAN GRENADE
TRANQUILIZER GUN
RESCUE GEAR
INSTAHEAL
MILITARY FATIGUES
COMPASS (LEADS TO MOST LOVED OBJECT/PERSON/LOCATION)
RARE COINS
UNIDENTIFIED MINERAL
FUBBLE
CLASSIC MOVIES
POTIONS (DORIAN)
VARIOUS PERSONAL ITEMS
GUITARS
and he waits for Venom to look it over.] If there's anything in there you need feel free to take it. [He'll just put it in the box.]

Now for the rest. He takes Kaz's TAB and scrolls through the neatly-recorded inventory (completely unsurprising, how organized his XO is), and takes a gander at his possible loadout. ]
You've got the stealth camo.
[ Good to know. He continues flicking through. ]
'Kingsman grenade'?
no subject
[Obvious he's dodging around the subject of those grenades. It's less that he wants to keep secrets from his CO, and more that he wants to be fair by the person that gave them to him.]
But yeah, I got some stealth camo. Thought we'd be needing it, but I've not really needed to use any yet. I'd be glad to pass them onto you. I'm pretty sure we can eventually find a better drop location for the fultons, too.
[Kaz tips his head back, looking tiredly up at the ceiling, trying to think if he has anything else he can share.] What music do you still have? [Somehow he makes it seem important. There's not a lot of things from home they can enjoy now. Who knows what they'll have when they go. If he knew how Chico had felt...]

I'll take it.
[ Is his simple conclusion about the stealth camo, before he pulls up a fold-out chair from the fray and settles down as close to Kaz as he can manage with the dogs in the way. He has the music he'd pilfered from Afghanistan and Africa stored onto his iDroid, but he only has one real physical music cassette— that's the one he plays as he tucks one earbud into his XO's ear (the other already attached to his own self) and adjusts the volume.
The song begins with that familiar click, and a second or two of white noise.
Midge Ure filters through the groan of synthesizers, low and meandering:
"—We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend—" ]
no subject
[They've traipsed through a wasteland and ship battles and somehow he thinks they've found more of it than they have in their recent years.]
[He presses his finger to the earbud and leans in, nearly close enough to bump foreheads, and listens. Luckily it's not abrasive and he enjoys it, not quite as much as he does Diamond Dogs but quite a bit, and he focuses on that other than voices in the background.]
[At least they'll have this one little taste of home on that other mysterious side.]
