"Let them in, and take them out."
|
Nathan Drake | OTA
[Nate isn't quite in his element here—the kind of ruins he loves to explore are a little more ancient—but it's close enough for him to be comfortable. He's got a weapon in his gun belt and a flashlight attached to his hip, but it's the journal that gets the most use. He makes notes on the hand-drawn map and occasionally stops for sketches. If he bumps into anyone else doing the same scouting, he'll gladly team up with them. Safety in numbers and all.]
[ floor 1 - arrival ]
[Nate's got one gun in hand and two ready to be pulled out at a moment's notice when they enter the facility, and finds himself strangely...disappointed? Well, no. After the chaos of the crash and the trials of the weeks that followed, he is absolutely not looking for another fight. But he kind of expected one and isn't immediately sure what to do when there's just nothing.
So, all right. He joins the others in fanning out, looking around, trying to figure out what happened based on what's left. He gathers a few scraps of documents and squints at them, trying to get a sense of narrative or even a fucking paragraph before dropping them and letting them waft to the ground again.]
I'm an amateur archeologist at best, but I'm going to say that what we're finding on this site is a whole bunch of junk.
[Nailed it.]
[ floor 2 ]
[The smile goes away on this floor.
These aren't the first bodies Nate has ever seen. They're not even the first group of bodies of beings who were killed violently. But there's a difference between the long lost corpses of those who sailed on Marco Polo's lost fleet, basically historical relics themselves, and what he sees here. This was a lot more recent, and bodes a lot worse for them.
But eventually he deals with it like he always does.]
Well. This is pretty disgusting. I'm going to be put off lunch for at least a couple of hours.
floor 2
Hey man, you've gotta get out. The air's not safe.
no subject
I'll be all right. This should help. [He takes a good look as he really sees the guy for the first time.] Though if you've got another one of those stashed somewhere, I wouldn't say no.
no subject
[ But for now he's stepping through the bodies, a weapon out and ready just in case. ]
They were slaughtered. Why?
no subject
[Probably. Or he'll just sprint for the previous floor.]
That's the question, isn't it? I can only guess that this facility had something someone wanted. But who, and more importantly, did they find it?

floor 1
For nothing, really. Just a mess of papers that really don't have much to offer. Still, she searches them, because even the smallest clue could reveal something important and she doesn't want it to be missed. It's while she's looking and finding basically nothing that she hears Nathan's wise-crack and can't help but smirk. He says what they're all probably thinking, really.]
So that's your official professional opinion? 'Junk'?
no subject
[Smart woman, coming prepared and already looking for a way to salvage information from anything that's been left behind. He drifts over to join her and crouches to pick up some more paper that's been strewn across the floor.]
Potentially useful junk, if this stuff says anything helpful, but junk. You disagree?
no subject
So she continues to skim. While there's very little she can read, she starts to pick up on little bits of information that seem familiar.]
How familiar are you with the Ingresses? [She definitely isn't a scientist, especially given how advanced this technology was compared to what she was used to. But being on the Moira as long as she had, she had a vague knowledge of them- at least, enough to pick of key words to tell her that's what this information was referring to.]
no subject
[Not only is he not a scientist, but his formal education concluded at age 12. He's done a ton to educate himself since, but that wasn't concentrated in the STEM fields, and also this is futuristic space bullshit.]
I've hung out with Tony Stark some when he was working with the one on the ship, but it was way beyond me.
What about you?
Floor 1
[Peter only knows Nathan in the vaguest sense, but he knew that Nathan had been close to Charlie once and for her sake he looks over in a not so sneaky way of keeping an eye out.]
no subject
[But then, they haven't explored everywhere in the facility yet.]
I don't know about you, but I don't want to set up a permanent homestead here.
no subject
At least it's not a beach and we're not getting drugged. But yeah. This place has a total Saturday night horror movie vibe to it. The teenage blob is going to come bursting from a wall any minute.
no subject
[Eh, he kind of is. When he needs to be.]
If a blob does jump out at us...I'm gonna run real fast, because I have no idea how to fight that.

[Says the robot, who is wrist deep in a pile of said junk. Pulling out what look like bottomless tin cans. Holding them up to his optics.]
[And grinning.]
Check it out! Goggles.
no subject
Heh. Cute. They show you anything useful?
no subject
[He grins to himself as he says it. Trying for a joke here. Hopefully that comes through well enough.]

Yet, so far she seems to be coming up blank. Of those words that she does understand, they mean little, like taking a book, ripping it up, tossing the pages in to the air, and then trying to piece together the information. It is a jumbled mess. Her eyes glance across the area, and while she is not familiar with the speaker, Padmé answers anyway.]
It does seem to be that way, but perhaps there may well be some clue somewhere.
no subject
[Nate's wary of being optimistic, but he doesn't want to cut off the chance to learn something through needless pessimism, either. He wanders her way, casting a glance over what she's got.]
Find anything that looks interesting? Even if it doesn't make sense. Maybe we can find pieces of information and fit them together.
no subject
[It is said lightly and with a small smile. Still, she motions with her head in the direction of a smaller pile, maybe ten pages in total so far, which is incredibly smaller than the other stack with over fifty.]
I fear there isn't that much, but anything that is not beyond comprehension is in that pile. I can't say the contents are exactly my area of expertise.
no subject
[Nate reaches for the smaller pile and begins sifting through it, eyes scanning the pages.]
So what is your area of expertise? I don't think we've talked much before.

[ Her voice is a quiet murmur that trails off on a muffled cough and choking sound, her hand coming up to cover her mouth and nose. Christ, that is disgusting. Elena can already feel her stomach turning and threatening to dump the rations and water she'd had before they'd begun to explore.
Seeing all these bodies, she's reminded of when the Descendants had surprise attacked them; the bodies littered all along the hallway, blood left in almost ankle-deep pools and splattered along the walls. That'd been the day she'd seen him dead, and it had never left her. ]
...you still feel like going through here?
no subject
[One hand is right up at his own face, trying to breathe without smell or taking in any of the particles he know must be floating in the air. It doesn't work so well. Hell, he can practically taste them.]
Let's...find somewhere else. With fewer corpses.
[He's seen them before. So has she, he knows, in her line of work and in ways that have nothing to do with him. She's tough. But wading through the dead isn't how they intended to spend the afternoon.]
no subject
[ While the first floor hadn't had much for death and gloom, this second floor was like a mass gravesite. Not something she wanted them to tread through, either. ]
Third floor?
[ A glance back over her shoulder to the staircase, left hand flexing at her side. ]
no subject
[He keeps an eye on her and past her as they move, ready for something to jump out at them, or ready for more absolute stillness and more bodies of those who are far past helping. Going deeper into the facility could just lead them to further carnage.
It doesn't, though, and Nate lets out a small sigh of relief as the third floor has the low hum of power and zero dead people that he can see.]
I already like this one better.
