Barter Bazaar!
Who: The entire CREW! [ Open ]
When: A day sometime after the holiday bash thrown by the captains
Where: The Medical Tent
What: An opportunity for swapping resources
Warnings: N/A But if a thread takes a turn, let me know and I'll edit
As described in this OOC post, one morning the captains will send out handwaved messages to the crew, old and new alike. New crew members will be offered a pacdisc of their own with some starter goodies that they can choose to keep or work on trading with their fellow crew.
Established crew members will be encouraged (but this is not an order) to arrive at the Medical Tent at a handwaved time with any extra items they have which they might be willing to trade out.
Also as mentioned on Discord, players/characters can have scavenged some items from the settlements and caves.
Come and trade! Or just come and watch/take the opportunity to meet some new faces. There will be a table set up with freshly prepared purple deer meat and clean (aka not-purple) water available. Sorry, alcohol is BYOB, but certainly welcome!

Also, just for some IC setting flavor:
[ As it had been for a couple of days now, the medical tent stood set up and ready to receive anyone who decided to take the captains up on their offer. Some of the pacdiscs were inside, ready to hand out to the new arrivals or those individuals could have picked them up directly from the captains themselves.
Either way, the cots of the med tent had been pushed back to the edges, gotten out of the way but also providing places to sit. There were also some crates and other sturdy looking cabinets for sitting on as well, why the hell not. Maybe be a little careful as some of those cabinets might be on casters. Please no rolling around the medical tent! But if you do sit on one of those cabinets and end up 'bucked off' people are probably going to point and snicker.
On one side of the tent a table had been set up with freshly bbqed purple deer meat and some sides. The sides were obviously canned goods but they were there for a change of pace. Fresh water, untainted by purple-ness, was also set up in large containers at the end of the table. There was plenty to have and also plenty to be bottled up in individual containers and packed away.
There were also glasses and cups sitting ready for water ... or you know ... if anyone had brought the hard stuff! ]

[Putting a destructive and volatile child in charge of a destructive and volatile tool that they have never used before and have no means of mastering immediately?

[Putting the boots on is the easy part, of course. Once Chara has everything buckled securely Frisk takes a step back, giving them room for their first take-off. The grin on their face is just getting bigger by the second.]
There's little button-things on th' inside at your toes, you push on those t' make th' rockets go.

[Whoops, they've already depressed the button. Chara abruptly shoots upward like a rapidly-deflating balloon, their lack of balance twisting them in loops and bends that have them reassessing the meaning of cardinal directions in a matter of seconds.
Minutes, possibly. Who can tell? Time is an insubordinate little thing even when it's not passing in years-long chunks while a child slumbers in the soil.
One thing they can say for certain, however, is that impacting the ground is marginally less painful when one's fall is cushioned by flowers.
They manage to tuck and roll before anything breaks, but there's a fresh coat of bruises along their shoulders and scrapes down their arms.]

[The rest of the sentence is cut off by Chara's sudden launch, and Frisk yelps and falls back squarely onto their behind, dumbly watching their Partner tumble through the sky like a child's bottle rocket.]
[The shock wears off and Frisk runs after Chara with a shout, calling up to them as loudly as they can with frantic bits of advice, but of course it goes unheard. They aren't quite fast enough to keep up completely, so when Chara falls to the earth Frisk has to rush over to the other child.]
Chara! Are you okay, are you hurt?!
[Oh jeez, they shouldn't have suggested this, this was such a bad idea, there was a reason Toriel got so mad last time--!]

Despite their imminent rocket-fueled implosion - or perhaps because of it - Chara's voice is perfectly clear as they call out, enunciating the words quite well for someone shouting over the hiss of burning oxygen.]

Let it go again! It's--they're like those sliding light switches!
[Frisk closes the last of the distance and holds out a hand to Chara, ready to try and act as a physical anchor should the boots send them rocketing off again.]

Their extremities are having some technical difficulties arranging themselves in the positioning Chara would prefer, but they've never been one to enjoy being trapped in this awful flesh suit prison thing. It's woefully inadequate and useless at the best of times, especially now. It speaks to their ability to keep their impressive composure under pressure - or perhaps simply to their ability to locate their feet and then each individual toe subsequently while trying to maintain their horribly skewed balance - that they manage to follow instructions with a minimum of additional bruising.
The boots stutter off.
And Chara lands.
They land on their back, heavily, but continue smiling serenely at the ceiling while the boots hum their discontented cooldown, smoke still coiling away from the soles.]
I feel obliged to suggest, [they say evenly, their voice pitched higher and thinner as the breathlessness threatens to break up the words,] that you invest in a stabilizer.

[This was a bad idea. It was such a horrible idea, Chara could have broken a bone or cut themself open hitting the rocks or even worse--they should have shown Chara how they work first, told them more, gotten a rope or something to help steady them or...or something!]

[They lurch to their feet in an abrupt press of motion that is far from fluid, and leaves them rather - disconcertingly lightheaded for a moment. They almost wince - almost. But it is a temporary moment, and it soon passes.]

[Maybe they can go back to the trading party thing, see if anyone has something that could help keep Chara stable on their next attempt.]

[--hesitating. Just for a moment, of course. They've used the boots before, and they only came away with a few bruises! ...and some HP gone.]
[...it's fine, why are they so nervous?]
O-okay. Um...
[Frisk gnaws on their lip, and locates the button before tapping it. The boots ignite, and Frisk is launched over Chara's head in a triple forward flip before landing heavily on the ground, complete with startled yodeling accompaniment.]

[Frisk pushes themself back up and touches their nose gingerly, wincing but finding nothing actually out of place. A bit of blood, but not enough to be any concern.]
It's been a while! I just gotta figure it out again 's all.
[Getting back up onto their feet, Frisk brushes themself off and turns back around, watching the boots as they tap the button even lighter this time. This time the launch upward is only a few feet, and Frisk actually manages to catch themself and hover for a few seconds before flipping over and landing hard on their back.]

[Now it's just a challenge. Frisk gets up and tries one more time, and finally they've achieved something resembling stability. The first burst sends them straight up about three feet in the air, and between a very delicate handling of the throttle and a lot of windmilling arms, they manage to actually stay there for a few moments.]

[The words are sedate and their chin is raised in a parody of someone with high standards, veiling their knee-jerk response to that offer in something crisp and falsely dramatic.

[In comparison to Chara's lofty attitude Frisk's mighty pout seems even more childish than it really is, but they don't much care. A few more stuttering bursts out of the boots, and Frisk turns them off and lands with a heavy thud and small stumble.]

[Here we are, of course. Ruining that lovely, nice thing that Frisk is enjoying, because they are simply like this. Unable to put their own comfort aside so that Frisk can have their fun. They are not about to be hoisted on anyone's shoulders or carried like a sack of potatoes, or held in any way, because the world is gentle and kind and careful with children like them.
Humans truly are selfish creatures.]
