Barter Bazaar!

When: A day sometime after the holiday bash thrown by the captains
Where: The Medical Tent
What: An opportunity for swapping resources

As described in this OOC post, one morning the captains will send out handwaved messages to the crew, old and new alike. New crew members will be offered a pacdisc of their own with some starter goodies that they can choose to keep or work on trading with their fellow crew.

Established crew members will be encouraged (but this is not an order) to arrive at the Medical Tent at a handwaved time with any extra items they have which they might be willing to trade out.

Also as mentioned on Discord, players/characters can have scavenged some items from the settlements and caves.

Come and trade! Or just come and watch/take the opportunity to meet some new faces. There will be a table set up with freshly prepared purple deer meat and clean (aka not-purple) water available. Sorry, alcohol is BYOB, but certainly welcome!

Also, just for some IC setting flavor:

[ As it had been for a couple of days now, the medical tent stood set up and ready to receive anyone who decided to take the captains up on their offer. Some of the pacdiscs were inside, ready to hand out to the new arrivals or those individuals could have picked them up directly from the captains themselves.

Either way, the cots of the med tent had been pushed back to the edges, gotten out of the way but also providing places to sit. There were also some crates and other sturdy looking cabinets for sitting on as well, why the hell not. Maybe be a little careful as some of those cabinets might be on casters. Please no rolling around the medical tent! But if you do sit on one of those cabinets and end up 'bucked off' people are probably going to point and snicker.

On one side of the tent a table had been set up with freshly bbqed purple deer meat and some sides. The sides were obviously canned goods but they were there for a change of pace. Fresh water, untainted by purple-ness, was also set up in large containers at the end of the table. There was plenty to have and also plenty to be bottled up in individual containers and packed away.

There were also glasses and cups sitting ready for water ... or you know ... if anyone had brought the hard stuff! ]

[Kerrigan has very little to trade, but she also has a very narrow and specific range of things she wants. She's sure if she keeps fighting that sooner or later she's going to have one or more claws get caught and ripped off at a bad time. She could still punch, sure, but claws made taking targets down faster. So would a manufactured weapon.

At first it's the hovering... thing... that draws her attention. She's seen it and the man it's near a few times from a distance but usually while she had something else to do. Right now, he's here to trade, so she makes her way over while trying to look as un-intimidating and frightening as possible.]

[It still feels weird that she has to say that, but it's wearing off after a little over two weeks of it.]

[To be fair, a couple of years ago, he probably would have been very alarmed to see someone with an exoskeleton and strange spiky protrusions sticking out of their back. Now? The fact that the woman in front of him is recognizably human-shaped puts her pretty low on the list of the strangest things he’s seen since arriving in this universe.]

I’m Alan. Nice to meet you. [The back protrusions do get a glance or two, but he does his best not to stare.] Are you looking for anything in particular?

[His reaction, or lack-there-of, moves him up in Kerrigan's estimation of what kind of world he is or how long he's been here. In the current situation he doesn't even get points off for not being suspicious. She's obviously among the group here.]

I'm looking for weapons. I'm new here; all I have to trade is beer, minerals, and future favors.

[She thinks the last one is the most valuable thing she has to offer, but no one here knows her or what she can do. And there's the chance she might not stick around long enough for them to be used, but people are trying to go home anyway so it's a moot point.]

[In other circumstances, somebody looking for weapons might cause Alan to ask a few questions. But Kerrigan looks plenty dangerous on her own already, so he doubts he’d be enabling anything she couldn’t do normally. He looks dubiously at the Pac-Disc in his hand.] I don’t think I have any-- [He stops, seeming to remember something.] Well, there is something the captains gave us a few weeks ago…

[He opens and reaches into his Pac-Disc, eventually pulling out what seems to be a sheathed knife. He holds it out to the woman.] I don’t know if that’s the kind of weapon you had in mind, but I doubt I’ll find much use for it. It might be handy if you’re the type who goes out in the exploring groups. [After all, the knife does advertise itself as a “Survival Knife” in big white letters on the blade.]

[Kerrigan takes the knife and pulls it out, carefully examining the blade. It's a fairly basic survival knife, and she approves.]

It's useful to have a weapon that's not attached.

[She flexes the limbs on her back a little. If she could use them properly she wouldn't have as much need for a knife, and if she had her full powers back there would be no need for it. But this is the situation now and for an unknown amount of time.]

This is good for other things I wouldn't want to use my claws for as well.

[More survival type things. For now they're well stocked and in a good situation but that can change.]

[It’s strange to hear her refer to the things sprouting from her back as “claws” -- they almost look more like the remnants of wings to Alan and it’s hard to imagine how she’d use them in combat -- but he’s willing to take her word for it.]

That makes sense. [It probably does, right?] I can’t say I’m in the market for beer or minerals, but if you’re actually planning on finding a use for it, it’s probably better off with you than me anyway. [If it were a luxury item, Alan might make more of an attempt at the whole “trade” aspect of the exchange, but the way he sees it, if the knife does what it advertises and helps the woman survive, there’s not much point in withholding it from her. Might as well pass it off to someone exploring the front lines than to let it gather dust in his Pac-Disc.]

[The knife is a start. It'll make combat a little easier when she's not fighting until she feels like her fingers are going to come apart. And she can save the purple water for when she really needs it.]
