far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

Peridot protests being shunted about without permission, her sock-clad feet scuffing up the sand, but ultimately she has no choice but to comply. Starflight is far bigger than she is, is what this comes down to, really.

"Was that a volcano?" She asks sharply, once they're safely under cover and the dragon is no longer pushing her around. The gem doesn't seem thrilled about the idea of volcanic activity. "What is this place!?"

"Yes, it's a volcano," Starflight answered as he continued to survey the sky. "It's an island, where the NightWings live. Or, 'lived'? I don't know what's happened since I've been gone. They may have- may have moved to the rain forest by now..." his voice hitched, thinking about what might have happened to his friends if the NightWings had invaded the RainWing kingdom.

The gem cocks her head, noticing Starflight's distress. She takes a deep breath, steeling herself; adding her own anxiety to the NightWing's isn't going to help either of them out, so for once she's resolved to not be a pain in the ass about this.

"Alright, so what are we supposed to do then? We have an hour to last out before the Ingress pulls us back to Amissis-Re!"

"Well....." Starflight looked back the way they came, along the beach, weighing their options. "If the NightWings did invade the rainforest, they probably aren't guarding the passage. We could go through there, maybe try and find my friends. But if they didn't, and we get caught, they'd probably throw us in lava."
peridork: (Hands on hips)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-17 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Lava," she says, completely deadpan. "Great." One of the few things that could DEFINITELY HURT HER, of course.

"Figures. I come here wanting to get a quick look at what your world is like, and we wind up getting pinned down in the woods," Peridot grumbles, scuffing at the ground with one foot.

[personal profile] petrifiedshadow 2016-05-17 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," Starflight replied, miserable that he disappointed her. Even if it wasn't his fault the Ingress had left them here.

"I just don't want you to get hurt. I don't know what other dragons would do if they saw you."

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-18 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Whatever, it's not like it's your fault," Peridot tries to reassure him, though she somehow still manages to sound grumpy when she says it. "I wouldn't worry too much about me, though. They may have us out numbered here, but I definitely have them all out gunned," she says with a malicious grin, tapping her gem knowingly. Just because she doesn't have her limb enhancers, doesn't mean she's unarmed.

"You do remember most dragons are way more dangerous than me, right? Almost all of the NightWings are adults, who can read minds and are much, much bigger than I am. I'm not really sure what you could do that would help if a bunch of them attacked us." He knew gems had some pretty amazing abilities, but it was hard to imagine Peridot taking on someone like Morrowseer and coming out on top.
peridork: (blast some squats)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Just because they can read the minds of other dragons doesn't mean they can read my mind," she says, shrugging indifferently. "Besides, size won't make much of a difference when I'm wielding this level of weaponry!"

As she's bragging she fishes around in the rucksack she has packed with her and whips out one of her custom-built blasters, brandishing it with a flourish. It still probably wouldn't do much good against a dragon like Morrowseer, but Peridot has no barometer for that. She's just expecting tech to win out over raw physical strength.

"You don't know if you that's true, Peridot." Starflight pointed out obstinately. He would much rather err on the side of caution. He couldn't help but looks skeptical when Peridot pulled out her weapon.

"What's that supposed to do?"
peridork: (HHHHHhh)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-21 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Peridot's grin fades a little. Leave it to Starflight to have a less than impressed reaction to a piece of tech this awesome.

"It's a gun. It's for repelling enemies? Human, gem, dragon or otherwise," she says, gesturing with it. "I'd give you a demonstration, but that probably wouldn't be wise considering we're trying to lay low."
petrifiedshadow: (002)

[personal profile] petrifiedshadow 2016-05-21 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Starflight sighed, rolling his eyes. He knew that already. Making weapons was Peridot's job, after all.

"I meant, how does it work?" he clarified. A demonstration would have been helpful but not if it meant giving away their position.
peridork: (Smug as fuck)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-21 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it kind of depends on what power setting I have it on, but. It's a photon blaster-- like a laser, only less precise and more meant for wreaking devastating destruction!"

She says all this with a smile, of course.
petrifiedshadow: (003)

[personal profile] petrifiedshadow 2016-05-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Right...." A weapon of mass destruction. He could only imagine what would happen if the NightWings got ahold of it. Even with just one, but he was sure his father would try and find a way to reverse engineer it if he could.

"Just, make sure you don't leave it here."
peridork: (alrightalrightalright)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-31 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow Starflight, what do you take her for. Peridot snorts dismissively. "Like I would willingly just leave something like this laying around. It'll be fine, trust me."

The gem stashes the weapon again for now and then cocks her head at her dragon companion. A thought occurs:

"So... Since we have time to waste before we get pulled back through, refresh my memory? This is the NightWing equivalent of Homeworld, right? But you did't grow up here..."
petrifiedshadow: (007)

[personal profile] petrifiedshadow 2016-06-06 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
"That's right. I grew up on the main continent, under one of the mountains in the SkyWing kingdom. I... I guess I'm glad I didn't grow up here. The Talons of Peace were horrible, but they did make sure we were healthy at least; all the dragonets here look really bad. Plus I wouldn't have gotten to know any of my friends. And the NightWings are....really different from how I thought."

He looked up at the volcano, trying to ignore the growing knot in his stomach that was his conflicted feelings about the NightWings.

"If we were able to get into the fortress without being seen, they have an amazing map of Pyrrhia, I could show you where I grew up. Or close to it, anyway."
peridork: (EXCITABLE YELLING)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-06-08 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Peridot squints vaguely back in the direction of where the fortress should be. She is so curious about the dragon world, and this map, but... That sort of bold risk isn't really her style. Amethyst would probably do it in a heartbeat, but she was built for that sort of thing...

"Oh oh oh, WAIT!" she gasps suddenly, flapping her hands and bouncing excitedly from foot to foot. "I could try shape shifting! I could turn into something really small, and then, then I could sneak in with you!"

Normally she wouldn't even consider it, but this is a rare case where it actually sounds potentially useful, and back home Amethyst shapeshifts all the time. It can't be that hard, can it?
