"Arguments on their nature are refuted by those who return to shore, wide-eyed with tales of their savagery."

Observation Deck
He doesn't bother to look sheepish whenever she catches him staring. Instead he lifts a hand to wave and darts his way over in a jolt of speed. "Hello," he replies, coming to a stop at her side. "Quite a sight, huh?"
no subject
"It's very interesting." Is it clear that she's referring to his speed and not the stars, because she's referring to his speed and not the stars. It reminds her of Pietro, though she really hadn't known him long before he'd died. It stands to reason he's not the only person out there with a power like that given how many people she knows with strange abilities, but it's still on her mind.
"My name's Natalie."
no subject
He holds out a hand to shake, smiling. "Nice to meet you, Natalie. I'm Peter, Peter Maximoff. I'm going to assume you're new around here since I'm not recognizing the face."
no subject
"It's nice to meet you, too, Peter." She smiles. "I am new. I take it you've been here a while?"

"I wouldn't mind hearing more about these monsters. And the cat tree?" She looks skeptical about that last one being real.
no subject
He laughs. "Cat tree. Someone somehow made a plant that grows kittens. It's in the garden, like I said. The cats are pretty cute, totally harmless and pretty normal all things considered. I'm not sure if it was the world's weirdest science experiment or what, but it's here."
no subject
And then because she doesn't feel a pressing need to learn about a cat tree, "Where you came from, do a lot of people have powers like yours?"
no subject
He should have guessed the conversation would turn to that. "No, actually. Just a few. I think. It's complicated. And before you ask, no. None of them have powers like mine. Everyone gets something different."
no subject
She looks at him, considering. "I did know someone with powers similar to yours, though. It's not common where I'm from, but there are individuals. He was one of them."
no subject
"Someone like me? What was he like? Did you know anything about how he got his power?" He pauses, shrugging like it's not the big deal to him that it is. "It's a thing, you know? Other speedsters."
no subject
"I think he was experimented on." She adds it a little softer, as if she's sensitive to the idea. Who knows what that could mean to people from other worlds, powers or no.
no subject
He sighs, scrubbing a hand over his face. "I'm sorry that kind of thing happens in your world. It shouldn't happen anywhere. People aren't guinea pigs."
no subject
There's also Bruce, who mostly did it to himself, and countless people like Natasha who've been manipulated mentally and emotionally in a similar fashion.

no subject
"I think it's rougher for them than for me."
no subject
"I'm not trying to say it isn't. But it sucks for everyone involved right? You're allowed to have a hard time with it too."
no subject
"You're right. I worry about some of them."
no subject
He straightens, dropping his hand back to his side. "And with that emotional stuff out of the way, I'm going to ask if you have anymore questions about this place."
